Eddie did tile flooring in the master bedroom. He took 6 days to finish the project. He is a hard worker and wants the customer to be satisfied. The time frame to do the work was extended by 2 days, so I would recommend setting a fixed rate for a project like this. The quality of work was good and I would not hesitate to hire him in the future.

They were available when Home Depot couldn't get to it for several weeks. They did an excellent job installing ceramic tile in my upstairs bathroom. They did less than perfect with the cove base. I would recommend them.

David and his worker Juan provided exceptional work in the demolition and installation of new wood-look ceramic tile flooring and porcelain flooring. David was prompt, thorough and flexible. His worker Juan provided great work with high attention to detail. In terms of criticism, demolition was dirty and the job took a little longer than anticipated, but at little to no fault of the contractor. I would recommend for similar work in the future.

Charles was going to be late for the start of the project, so he called me go let me know. Then he arrived at about the time he said he would, started right into the projec: finishing laying floor ceramic tile, and some repairs of tiles that had not adhered and others that had been damaged. The whole thing took two days, as he had said it woul. He did an excellent job; the cost was reasonabl. I would definitely hire him again.

The job consisted of painting every room in the house, including the garage, repaired walls, and retextured some of the walls, painted cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms. The counter tops in the kitchen was replaced, bathrooms were upgraded with new vanity and tile replaced. The flooring in the whole house was replaced. New closet doors were fabricated to replace the damaged ones in the master bedroom. New closet doors in the hallway. New tile around the fireplace, front door and garage door were replaced. Once he was done with the interior he painted the exterior of the house and replaced the roof. The project was extensive, I was very pleased with Sam and his crew they were professional showed up everyday I could see progress whenever I would go to house which meant they were working. I liked that Sam came up with creative ideas to streamline the job but did not take shortcuts the materials used were top grade. The house looks better than new. I would definitely recommend Sam and use him on future projects.

When Chris came out to give us an estimate for the repairs needed, we agreed on the price and gave approval to do the job. He informed us it would probably be a week before he could start due to previous commitments. He called exactly on time to say he would begin the next day. He told us the job would take about three days to complete. He was through in less than two. He never asked for any money up front even for materials. The roof repairs look good. Although it hasn't rained since the repair, I feel confident Chris will correct anything that needs to be done. We intend to call him for any future home repairs we may need. Bill Fredde

I also ask each contractor to provide phone number of references before I hire them and did this with David. The first lady I talked with was an elderly lady and she spoke so highly of David that I wanted to ask her to confirm she wasn't his grandmother! After hearing similar good things from others I hired David to do tile work for my bathroom and stone work for the shower. The quality of the work was superb. David is one of those guys who has great skill and the commitment to do the job right. Because I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to finish the rock shower, David and I agreed on a hourly fee so I could make any changes as we went. I was very impressed when I saw on one invoice that he didn't charge me the whole time he was working one day because he felt like he had made a mistake that caused extra time and didn't feel that I should have to pay for him to fix it. Overall I was extremely pleased with his work. He does a great job and is honest in the process.

Hi everybody! Charles took this job on short notice and worked diligently on his own until it was done. He put down bamboo floor and also tiled a bedroom for us. I felt fine leaving him alone in the house. He picked up the tile and otherwise did all of the extras and for a great price!

I hired Bob after getting a very good quote from him. He did the work exceptionally well. He is a very clean worker, cleans up as he is working. He listens very well to specifics and follows through. He showed at on the job when he said he would and left at 5 or 6 pm everyday. He always made sure things were clean before he left. I am very satisfied with his quality of work. He laid ceramic tile for me and did sheet rock repair also. I will be calling him back for more work that I need done! Thanks Bob!!

I hired Jesse after numerous visits by other flooring contractors for a wood flooring project at my home of about 1,600 sq. ft. I have an extensive background in commercial construction and Jesse impressed me with his knowledge of the different phases needed to get my flooring project completed. In my case, we had major issues in dealing with a "mud base" foundation in a large area of my home that required extensive floor prep work. From the very beginning, Jesse has been outstanding to deal with. He is one of the rare individuals that cares deeply about doing the job right from the start. He doesn't cut corners, he is considerate and fastidious about protecting furniture and keeping the work areas CLEAN. I've dealt with contractors all of my life and I can definitely say that Jesse is in the top 1% of all of the people I have done business with in my 40+ years of construction experience.

First Job was to replace carpet with tile and vinyl flooring and second job was remodeling the master bath. Workers were quite competent. Work was accomplished to our satisfaction and design of new shower was excellent. Work however was slower than we liked due to other jobs they had.

I hired Larry to paint my kitchen, entryway and stairway and he soared way above my expectations. He taught me valuable skills to enable me to paint the rest of my house on my own and he did a beautiful paint job on the specified rooms. When it came time to pack up because he had finished the job, he even left some of his own supplies so I could finish my work and wouldn't have to buy these items. He has valuable experience in home improvement and great ideas for every project you're thinking of investing in. I will hire Larry again and again for my home improvement jobs. His prices were the fairest I found and he went above and beyond what was required of him. He has a passion for what he does and it shows. I would recommend his work to anybody.

Contractor was on time and worked a full day to install premium hardwood and replaced fixtures in the bathrooms. They did a great job matching the bathroom flooring to the existing hardwood flooring in the hallway. After they finished they hauled the old tile and took payment by credit card.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

      • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
        • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
