"Miss Catherine" (as my son called her) was our piano teacher while we lived in CA. She was absolutely phenomenal with my son. Lots of patience when he got frustrated. She gave him her love for music which continues to this day.Apr 25, 2014Catherine B.'s reply
Thanks, Carol. I enjoyed working with your son. I look forward to reading more about his musical pursuits in your new location.
I took piano lessons from Catherine for about a year, after not having played for 20 years. She was easily able to assess my skill level and come up with a curriculum for me. I had remembered some of the basics, but needed a lot of help with finger positioning and timing. Catherine is very patient and explains concepts in ways that are easy to understand. She could see that the lesson book I had been using wasnt working well for me, so she switched me to a different one. I learned so much in that brief time that I felt confident enough to play in front of people! I was the only adult student at the recital and it was a lot of fun. The kids clearly enjoyed working with her too and it was evident in their performances that she works well with kids of all ages. I highly recommend her!Apr 25, 2014Catherine B.'s reply
Thank you, Katie. It was fun watching you grow musically and developing confidence. Having so many of your family members attend the recital and cheer on your growth was an inspiration to me and to many students. Thank you for allowing me to share in that part of your musical journey.

- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I am a member of the Music Teacher's National Association and participate in ongoing continuing education events. In addition to my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Speech-Language Pathology, I also have taken many classes in music theory, history, and piano performance. I also participate regularly on piano teachers forums where I exchange ideas with other teachers about best practices and the day to day business of teaching.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I have been working with children in church and public education since I was in upper elementary school. I enjoy working with individuals and small groups to achieve goals. I chose to major in a field other than music after learning that it was difficult to make a living as a piano teacher, which I really wanted to do. I worked part time after my work hours in a school, teaching piano lessons in the homes of others for several years. I decided it was time to dedicate more time to my studio in 2010, and having been working on this goal ever since. My family relocated to San Antonio, TX in August 2010, and I have been working on building a client base here since that time.
