Janet has been helpung me with honors geometry and honors Chemistry. She is so ready to help me with absolutely anything I ask. She is always right on time and incredibly nice. She goes way beyond other tutors I've had. if I need help and I havn't seen her in a while I just text her a problem and she solves and explains it to me over the phone. She is the best tutor I have ever had and she has helped me a lot.

Alfonso is an amazing tutor and really helps break down the material. I went through a lot of tutors that didn't explain things very well but then I found him and I've done really well in my math class.

My daughter always seemed to have panic attacks leading up to tests. I was desperate to find a way for her to be comfortable especially as SATs were coming up. All I can say is after a few weeks with the tutors and life coaches at Chelsea International Education, my daughter’s confidence level went up a lot. She was not only prepared to take her SATs but her core academic skills have improved tremendously, which has helped her with her AP exams. The fact that all of the Chelsea tutors are fully qualified teachers, I think makes a major difference and really sets them apart. It really is a quality service and I am very happy to recommend them to anyone.

I have been unsure about a personal tutor, and Mike and his team made it so easy that I wish I would have hired one sooner!! He has worked with the unexpected changes from dates/times to changes in the subject matter of each session. Cody (our tutor) is always on time and prepared. Even after a month, we saw a noticeable improvement with his school work.

My son really enjoyed being tutored by Mrs Samm. Mrs Samm presented to me (parent) a thorough evaluation the first visit and then worked with my son to help improve his skills and confidence. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs a reading/comprehension tutor. She's really patient too! Always responded to my emails, calls and texts too!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.
