FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Expect $20-$35/hr plus travel time and special supplies for tutoring; $30-$35/hr for editing. However, all writing and editing projects are charged by the page plus extra tasks, not by the hour. I offer a price list for all writing, editing, and publishing (to KDP or to a blog or website) projects. Heavy-duty Details For writing, blogging, proofreading, formatting, and editing, I have a sliding scale per word or page that averages $30-$35/hour of work. Technical writing, editing, formatting, and proofreading average $35-45/hr. I use price lists with charges for specific types of editing and publishing tasks, such as verifying links, formatting and completing references, adding images and figures, etc. These tasks are often included in non-technical writing, also. Coskrey Biz is a 2 person business, with my husband doing the graphic arts involved in the cover art, artwork, and image processing of the publishing aspects of the business. I tutor by the hour, with a sliding scale of $20-$45 per hour, with a reduced rate per hour for additional time. Travel time and subject matter are both part of the hourly calculation. The less time I spend traveling to you, the lower the tutoring rate. I also charge a monthly fee for home school tutoring that is calculated per situation based on the needs of the client. For example, 45 hours of student contact per month for one subject where the student is using an online curriculum is $150/mo and includes a reasonable time for parent conferences and administrative activities as needed. If I plan and implement the curriculum, the fee is slightly higher. For home school tutoring the travel time is an additional fee.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Discuss expectations and how I plan to meet them. Heavy-duty Details First, we discuss the actual task and how I can best help. Once we work together for a bit, we evaluate our time together and decide whether to continue, to adjust the process and sometimes the fees, or change the goals. For students, goals often change to cover different subject matter or prepare for a test. I expect critical input from both parent and student as well as other clients.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a retired secondary science teacher with these graduate degrees: M.Ed. and Cert. of Ed. Specialists. I partner with my husband in providing other skills and expertise through Coskrey Biz. Heavy-duty Details I have graduate degrees in education with a science emphasis and years of experience teaching. I am retired. Nevertheless, I read a lot across many disciplines. I watch related videos. I have discussions with colleagues. I taught myself HTML5 and CSS to code static websites. I have honed my writing skills through developing websites and blogs for customers and increased site traffic. I have many other life experiences that have given me skills in various areas.
