- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We offer basic, intermediate, and advanced obedience courses - both private, one-on-one lessons and group courses. CTC also offers speciality programs such as Puppy Selection Assistance, Puppy Kindergarten, agility and Rally-O courses. Please contact us for program costs.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once contacted, our programs generally start with a "humans only" session. We take this opportunity to review the training materials, demonstrate some of the training equipment, and discuss specific issues that a client may need addressed. During each scheduled session, we review previously taught skills and introduce a new one. At the end of each program there is a "Final Exam." Throughout each program, we teach handlers to become "Alphas" - the leader of their family pack! Once we teach them to speak "dog" - the relationship takes off!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As the Owner and Training Director, I bring over 20 years of experience working with professional working dogs - police K9s, search & rescue, and service/companion dogs. As an experienced Handler, I attended a year-long internship under Paul Bouchard, Animal Behavioral Services (Orlando, FL) to become a Behaviorist & Trainer. This internship required working a canine from Puppy Kindergarten through advanced off-leash obedience courses. Our Master Trainer specialized in service/companion and guide dog work, so I had the opportunity to work with special needs clientele who depended on their canine partners every day! Our foster families worked with the puppies through initial "imprinting" and then we began specialized, individual training to meet the needs of each client. Over time, I became the Assistant Director of Training for ABS Guide Dogs. As part of the internship coursework, I trained two search & rescue dogs from basic scent discrimination through long distance, aged tracks of multiple subjects. My dogs and I then volunteered with the Central Florida K-9 Search and Rescue Team for several years, serving as a Team Lead and Trainer. Over the years, I've trained with Schutzhund clubs, consulted for law enforcement canine units, taught Canine Good Citizen programs, run Rally-O and agility courses, and helped hundreds of pet owners with canine challenges!
