Introduction: Our techniques are based on those used for professional working dogs - police K9s, search & rescue and companion dogs. These are solid, tested and time-proven methods for the most dependable results. We train owners to be “Alphas!” This means we DO NOT believe in “board and train” programs. No shortcuts, invest some time in your canine partner and build a true relationship with them. Nothing makes this job more enjoyable than watching the amazement and pride on a handler's face when they give a command and their dog performs it! You can just see their confidence jump...and suddenly they are speaking "dog!"

Dog Training

Howard is great! We did at-home private obedience lessons for our rescue German Shepherd. Howard was respectful and professional of our wishes to stay socially distanced during our first few lessons, and we are incredibly grateful for that! Since we don't know too much of our rescue German Shepherd's background, we were unsure what type of training was needed. Howard supported us through the 8-week course and helped us get to know our dog and his behavior better. He gave us a foundation that will help us be better dog parents! We highly recommend Howard and Canine Training Center for obedience training.

Dog Training

Lesson #4 for “off leash” training was the best yet. Looking forward to the Home Depot training next week. Howard is very professional. Howard really knows how to use all of his dog experiences in getting our dog to a proper level of obedience . (Cabo - Australian miniature Labradoodle) Thank you!!!

Dog Training

I just had my first group session with Howard. I am very pleased with the info and practice I had so far. The dude definitely enjoys and knows what he is doing. I have a Dutch German shepherd mix and I am definitely going to complete the first set of training and looking forward to advanced practice as well.

Dog Training

Howard is the best!!!! His guidance has changed the way we see ourselves as pack leaders. We have learned so much. Our little shelter puppy came wild and unaware, but after only a few weeks of training, she understands her place. Howard truly is an amazing trainer/teacher!!!!!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

We offer basic, intermediate, and advanced obedience courses - both private, one-on-one lessons and group courses. CTC also offers speciality programs such as Puppy Selection Assistance, Puppy Kindergarten, agility and Rally-O courses. Please contact us for program costs.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Once contacted, our programs generally start with a "humans only" session. We take this opportunity to review the training materials, demonstrate some of the training equipment, and discuss specific issues that a client may need addressed. During each scheduled session, we review previously taught skills and introduce a new one. At the end of each program there is a "Final Exam." Throughout each program, we teach handlers to become "Alphas" - the leader of their family pack! Once we teach them to speak "dog" - the relationship takes off!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

As the Owner and Training Director, I bring over 20 years of experience working with professional working dogs - police K9s, search & rescue, and service/companion dogs. As an experienced Handler, I attended a year-long internship under Paul Bouchard, Animal Behavioral Services (Orlando, FL) to become a Behaviorist & Trainer. This internship required working a canine from Puppy Kindergarten through advanced off-leash obedience courses. Our Master Trainer specialized in service/companion and guide dog work, so I had the opportunity to work with special needs clientele who depended on their canine partners every day! Our foster families worked with the puppies through initial "imprinting" and then we began specialized, individual training to meet the needs of each client. Over time, I became the Assistant Director of Training for ABS Guide Dogs. As part of the internship coursework, I trained two search & rescue dogs from basic scent discrimination through long distance, aged tracks of multiple subjects. My dogs and I then volunteered with the Central Florida K-9 Search and Rescue Team for several years, serving as a Team Lead and Trainer. Over the years, I've trained with Schutzhund clubs, consulted for law enforcement canine units, taught Canine Good Citizen programs, run Rally-O and agility courses, and helped hundreds of pet owners with canine challenges!
