I am very impressed with J. Grover's craftsmanship. His attention to every detail, his extra effort to take the time of explaining to me how he planned on completing the job as well as the quality of the job he did. I have a rental property, to put it mildly the previous tenants vandalized before the vacated the property. The punched holes in the walls, broke the baseboards, busted a few door jams and somehow even tore up the privacy fence. J. Grover repaired everything. Actually, when the job was complete the property was in better shape than when I rented it out previously. My family has been blessed to find a quality contractor that we can count on. I highly recommend J. Grover contracting and property maintenance. Thank you J, I'm sure we will see you again.

I was having problems with my side-by-side fridge/freezer The appliance is several years old, and although the freezer side was working perfectly, the fridge side had not been cooling properly. I posted a request on Thumbtack on Friday afternoon and had a quick response from Victor. He was able to come out later in the evening and did everything he could to determine the problem. He was honest and forthcoming about the costs for repairing the most likely causes of the issue. Due to the age of the unit and the cost of repair vs the cost of replacing the appliance, my husband and I decided to go with the latter option. Victor offered helpful advice, was courteous and professional, and his fees for coming out and performing the diagnostics were reasonable. I would not hesitate to call him again in the future should the need arise.

Recently 'Hoppin Handyman' built a fence so my dogs could have a play area. He did an amazing job and they love it. Chris does efficient, cost effective work. He listens to what the clients needs are and presents them with the best options. You can tell he enjoys his work. He is usually smiling. He has done many jobs for me over the years. Plumbing, electrical, building, flooring and more. His talents and skills seem to be endless. Not long ago he repaired my leaking toilet tank, organized my studio area, put up storage shelving, installed a storm door and unstopped a drain line that was giving me grief. He power washed the brick on my home and my porch areas. You cannot believe what a difference this made. It had years of grim. It now looks fresh and new adding value to my home. Each experience has been great even when he ran into hidden problems. Thank you, Hoppin Handyman, for your skills, knowledge and quality workmanship.

As a local owner of a General Contracting business, I do most of the work myself. Occasionally on big jobs that have a time limit, I will hire the respected people for each of the job (picking up licensed people to assure that you the customer, and I the business owner, are in the best shape) to get everything done for you! Having little to no overhead costs keep my job bids/estimates to you minimal and are typically quite flexible, yet nowhere near the big company prices, you will still get written receipts, warranties, and complete satisfaction!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
