FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
In real filmmaking, or video production, everything is a la cart. Every single item is a separate option. A client doesn't have to understand that, and normally they don't care. It's my job to figure out what tools of the trade are needed and package it together and provide an overall budget or cost of the project. I find it better to provide one overall cost vs giving a client individual breakdowns of everything. It causes to much worry and most clients would not understand and it would likely create confusion and stress. They really don't want or care to know in most cases.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Like many guys my age, I was a huge fan of Star Wars when it came out in 1977. But when I saw the Making of Star Wars on CBS later that year, I was blown away with how they achieved so many of the effects. I was into magic at the time, and seeing this show was like learning how a magic trick works. But because I was a budding magician, I really appreciated it and found the process very interesting. I shifted my focus from magic to the magic of the movies and started planning on how to make little short films with my Dad's Super 8mm camera. I discovered it was an art form to take real life and model it in a different way artificially to make it look like real life.
