Jon is a very patient guitar teacher. Our son, Nathanael is 13 and has been taking guitar lessons for five years and he has been through four guitar teachers. Jon has been able to take him to the next level. He is doing more than just learning how to play a song or two. He is learning to understand music with his guitar and technique when playing. Working with Jon has not only helped Nathanael excel as a guitar player but also in band as a clarinet player in middle school. Jon's studio is comfortable for his students and guests. He is always in a cheerful mood when he is teaching and we are always made to feel welcome. We appreciate what Jon has done for our son because music has helped him excel as a student, a musician, and as a person. We would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an instructor.

Dan Quinn rocked our event. He was easy to work with, everything was so smooth and the transition from acoustic to DJ was seamless. He could read our minds at times I would swear to it. All of our guests complimented him. At our next event, we will hire the Dan Quinn Band again! He's a must have at any party!!!

"The beat was going strong, Playing my favorite song, And I could tell it wouldn't be long till..." My friends were, "Singing, I love rock and roll, So put another dime in the jukebox, baby, I love rock and roll, So come and take your time and dance with me, Ow!" Joan Jett must have been there because I heard lots of my friends saying something like this when Greg rocked it at a party at my home. And as Billy Joel reminded us, "The whole world loves American movies, blue jeans, jazz, and rock and roll...."

Hey Scott! How have you been? I know it has been a while, but I am sure you remember that you did my wedding on July 10th at Denton Country Club. That night was crazy, and I never felt like I got a chance to tell you how great I think you did. You exceeded my expectations of a DJ and was pleased with everything you did. Well, I really wanted to write you a review but I couldn't remember if you gave me a website that would be a good place to do so. I did a search and found a review opportunity at decidio.com. Below is what I posted: Scott did an amazing job as the DJ for my wedding. He kept my groom and I (and the entire family for that matter) on track with time without being controlling or demanding. He let us do as we pleased throughout the reception (even though we were running behind schedule) but was available to remind us of all we had left to do. In all the chaos, Scott kept the atmosphere very chill, and my guests complimented the great arrangement of music (even at times that nobody was dancing). I would recommend Scott to anybody that ever asked about him. He was so easy and wonderful to work with (even when I was an OCD bride), and better yet he came at a very reasonable price!!!! Thank you so much!!! If there is any other website that you have that has reviews or recommendations, just let me know and I will gladly post something for you!!! Thanks again! Leah Ballew

As a local musician myself, I wanted a great band for my 60th birthday party I had heard Plunder Monkeys at Bronco’s in Hurst and was blown away! Not only was the music way above average for the local music scene but the music they played was way beyond the usual fair you normally hear from a classic rock band Sure, they pulled off some of the greatest hits by Santana and Tom Petty, but when the did a flawless mini set of Steely Dan, the Guess Who and STIX, I was sold! I Hired them that night for my private birthday bash in April They showed up on time, started on time, and made it a great night for everyone! Hell, they even let me sit in on a song! Great show! Great band! Great attitude! Great sound! Best band around in my opinion!

I can’t say enough good things about the band! Their energy was contagious and it got the party going! My family is still talking about them and how great they sounded. No one wanted to leave the party until after they stopped playing. They were open to requests and even let my uncle and brother in law sing a family favorite! We had such a great time and highly recommend them to anyone. We will be booking them again in the future - great work!

Travis worked with me on the recording of two albums as a session guitarist. His work employed technicalities that helped shape the future of my band's work. These albums have secured an 8 week tour, and my playing as an experienced guitarist has been influenced by Travis' input. If I could, I would practice with Travis regularly.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
