I love Lynette.... most importantly my dogs did too. She's caring and compassionate towards all animals. She took great care of my babies. She's amazing with special needs and seniors. You truly could not ask for a better pet sitter. I have a hard time going off and leaving mine but she always kept me updated and sent pictures to reassure me they were fine. I was heartbroken when she moved. She is the best!!!

Tami does a great job with our pups and is very flexible. She communicates very well and sends us pics of our pooches very visit. We had an occasion when one of pups got out of her cage. Tammy sent me a video of Harley's rampage; I was expecting to have a mess to clean up when I got home, but was surprised to see that everything was picked up. If you are looking for a dog sitter, we highly recommend Tami.

Elaine was the perfect pet sitter! My dog is an older dog that requires so much maintenance and care. Elaine was ready, willing , and able to care for my beloved pet. I never had a moment of worry! I would not hesitate to call upon her again for pet sitting!!

Terrie's not only great with horses, she's great with kids as well. My daughter loves both her and the horse. Terrie's rates are unbeatable and her demeanor is unmatchable. Very grateful to Thumbtack for this matchup!

Sherri was a wonderful pet sitter for our 3 chihuahas. They had a great time with her while we were away on vacation and I love that she kept us updated with pictures throughout her stay with them. We will definitely use her again for our next time away.

Love Nicole!! I have 3 dogs one of which can be very aggressive and difficult. She knew exactly how to handle him and he took to her instantly! I was impressed. We have been “dumped” by many pet sitters in the past due to his behavior, but Nicole is still here 2 years later and Brody and my other 2 absolutely love her. I would highly recommend her to anyone

Noreen is the best! She takes care of my kitty like he is part of her family. Anytime I have to be out of town I know my cat will be well looked after. She never hesitates to check in if she thinks something is amiss with the house or my pet. I heartily recommend Norene as a pet sitter.

Kay has been my pet sitter for many years. She is wonderful with animals, and I have cats and dogs. The thing I like best is her prior experience as a vet assistant . During a trip I was on, an emergency related to my pet's health came up and she was able to deal with it and by the time I arrived home, my pet had been taken to the vet and treated.

Karen is professional, courteous and is a great pet/house sitter. My two dogs and two cats were well taken care of while I was on my trip. She charges by each 24 hour period, and stayed at my house the whole time I was gone. It was great because she cleaned up my backyard after the dogs, cleaned litter boxes and took the dogs for walks. My neighbor even verified many times a day. That made me happy. She watered my plants, hosed my patio, picked up my mail, newspapers and packages. She is trustworthy and will stay at your house bringing her own food and linens placed over yours. My house was sparkling clean when I got home and my pets were relaxed too. That gave me peace of mind. I plan to hire Karen Cares again when I need to travel. I'm so glad I found her on here. Nice person and she did what she said she would do.

Martha has been a great pet sitter. She works around the tightly-regulated feeding schedule for our cat and shows our kitty lots of care. She sends us a text message every day with a picture so we can see how our cat is doing. We trust her with our senior cat completely and recommend her highly.

I loved riding horses on the trials! Personally, I liked that our guide wasn't all up in our converstatiobs we were having so it gave me time to talk to my aunt and enjoy the riding. The first time I went I rode Princess I think and that was loads of fun. I loved it so much that I begged to go back and rode Aero my second time. The best part was that you weren't cramped up in the woods hitting all the trees with your head, we rode along the river on a dirt path and there was so much room that our guide would let us trot and my aunt and I had races with the horses. I would say it was definitely the best trial ride I have ever done and the stable was SO big and clean. I enjoyed petting all the horses in the stalls. The dogs in the barn are funny too when they run across the board above your head, looking down at the stalls. I can't remember the horses name but we got to pet a HUGE black perchron and he was the sweetest thing! I can't wait to go visit my aunt and go horse riding with her at Stockyard Stables. It's totally worth it!

Ricci is an excellent pet sitter. She is very detailed oriented and great at communication. She follows instructions perfectly and gives great feedback on how pets fared during your absence. She is a genuine pet lover and will give your babies all the love, attention and affection they are accustomed to experiencing. I have known Ricci for years and she is extremely dependable and a person of solid character and integrity. She is also friendly and smart. She will be able to make good decisions quickly if there is an unexpected issue when you are away. With your pets, she will be the next best thing to you when you can't be there for them. My dogs love when she visits and we do too! Highly recommend.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

      • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
      • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
        • 45-minute visit: $28.
        • 60-minute visit: $32.
      • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
      • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
        • 12 hours: $100.
        • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
