We are currently working with them on our first project - video advertisements for both TV and Digital/Online, using motion graphics (as opposed to shot video) in these first spots. We really enjoy working with them and have a number of additional video projects in line for them, including shooting some of our live events. This is a young crew compared to some of the others we interviewed, but they are super professional, talented, and they were willing to partner with us to deliver video services to our licensees across the U.S.. We look forward to working with them on an on-going basis.

Wilson is still waiting on me to supply the music for my wedding video, so the video isn't finished, but I'm sure we will love it. What I can say is that he showed up on time, was responsive, answered all my questions, and was very easy to schedule and work with. The event coordinator at the church commented that she was impressed with him when she spoke with him prior to the event. I would definitely recommend Possum Creek Media.

Shane has done two amazing shoots for our company, both on relatively short notice. We were not as prepared as we could have been on both occasions, but Shane made things happen regardless. He's flexible, very knowledgeable, patient and a real pleasure to work with. Shane will always focus on getting the best possible shots, at the highest possible quality, even if that means more work to him. He's a true professional. He shows up with a mountain of equipment, converters, etc, to be prepared for any situation or make that extra special shot happen. We will absolutely use Shane again in the future. Getting product and event videos created is new to our company, but with Shane this is something we're very excited to pursue.

I can't tell you how many quotes I received from different photographers and it wasn't a difficult decision to make after seeing Macsfilm.com. I knew they were the business for me and since I had quite a few creative ideas I needed a company that could do the job, yes his prices weren't cheap but competitive ( with cheap you usually get what you pay for) and ready to deliver and Michael did just that. He also had creative ideas for my music video that I had put off because I just couldn't find someone to see the video like I wanted but aside from that, what was most impressive is that his team was prepared and ready to take my portrait pictures as well and they turned out beautiful. I will certainly be referring Macsfilm, LLC.

When I started to look at videographers & photographers 4500Films was the first website I went to. I knew from watching one video that 4500Films was it! I had to have Mel & Cyndee photograph & take video of our wedding! From the very beginning Mel & Cyndee were amazing! My bridal pictures were an absolute blast with the two of them acting silly & everyone feeling like one big family!! I couldn't have asked for a better team. Our wedding pictures are absolutely stunning. The video is breathtakingly perfect! My husband & I couldn't be happier! We can't thank 4500Films enough for capturing ALL of the perfect moments from our big day!!

I've been in the video production business for 8 years serving and creating many types of productions across various mediums. The bottom line: Don't waste your time looking for someone else. This guy is a rare find. Black Dawg / Chris Vaughan has the unique combination of talent, expertise, and character that you seldom find in ANY field. He knows more than you need to. He provides more value than you pay for - no matter how much he costs. How can I say that? I've worked with him in two entirely different environments on video productions where I saw him do his thing. He's unassuming yet able to speak up when you most need it. He took initiative to provide much needed help that went beyond the job description on several occasions without being asked... and he did so in a way that was both respectful to all involved (Thank you Chris!) and incredibly efficient! You can't put a dollar amount on the value of this guys character and know-how. Hire him. I know we will - again and again. Matthew Armstrong CEO of Shape Change Media

Green Star Environmental needed high quality drone video and stills of a large real estate property in Fort Worth. We contacted Martin Lisius at Prairie Pictures who came out shot the footage and turned it around in less that a week. The video was titled, clear, steady and client ready. The stills were great quality and perfect for our inspection report. It was very helpful to be able to get a clear look at the neighboring properties from the air, which you just cannot get from the ground through fences. Great work and great value!

Take Two Productions has been an incredible collaborator for us! Ricky created two videos for our quarterly event, LifeChat LIVE. He provided thoughtful suggestions while we were shooting our anniversary video, and he added creative edits that made the video memorable, light, and SO fun! Ricky also produced the promo video for our sister brand, LifeChat Radio. He really captured Esther and Feleceia’s friendship and bright personalities. Not to mention Ricky’s work for us has always been completed with high quality and fast turnaround times, and he’s been super gracious with every edit we’ve ever requested. Take Two Productions is legit awesome. I can’t recommend him enough. Arian Augustus Senior Editor, Elisia Magazine Executive Coordinator, LifeChat Radio

My program needed a welcome video ready for our new student orientation and all we had were recordings and a vision. Ken did a fantastic job taking our feedback every step of the way and helped us to put together an amazing video that we will continue using for future events.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
