I contacted A Team after a bad experience with another big HVAC/Electrical/Plumbing company in Metroplex. Jason was prompt in his response to my question and never in the entire process tried to over sell. He laid out facts and quoted a very fair price for replacing a leaking evaporator coil. Promptly showed up on time and completed the job. Had the same experience with Brandon in a subsequent follow-up on a different service. Overall they are very trust worthy and have earned my business.

I had a problem with my air conditioning late on a Friday night and reached out on here. I got a reply within minutes and was able to get someone out to my house that night. Unfortunately, I still was having some problems on Saturday morning but Shawn was very quick to respond to my message and immediately came back over to finish fixing the problem, without charging me anything additional. Not only did Shawn just fix the problem, he walked me through everything he was doing step by step and explained what he was doing and why. The prices were very fair but the professionalism was top notch. Will definitely use this company again with any future HVAC problems.

Jorge Mondragon did a fantastic job installing a new upstairs AC and furnace. His price was close to the best that I received, and after seeing the positive reviews on Thumbtack, I decided to give him the job. He came in with two other crewman and worked about a half day to get the job done. They used tarps on the floor and covered the entire section they walked on during the install, including the stairs. The new AC works great, although the real test will come when the brutal summer kicks in. I'll update my review once I have a few months on the unit. The install job looked thorough and well done. Professional, polite, well-spoken, and hardworking. This is my go-to company for all future HVAC needs and I'll be recommending him to everyone I know.

Mike and his crew did a great job of replacing my entire HVAC unit, inside and out, on a very hot Texas day. I called him late on a Friday afternoon and he came out personally the same day to evaluate my problem. After he examined my system, we decided I needed to replace both the compressor/condenser unit outside and the evaporator inside, considering they were 23 years old. Mike offered me a great price for a brand name AC system and installation. He and his crew came early the next day and installed the entire system, which by 1:30pm was blowing the cool air we needed. I would recommend him to anyone. He didn't charge for his initial service call so it was worth it to give him a try. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Heater and fan wouldn't work in my townhome. Had one of the towns HVAC company check it out and they couldn't fix the problem. Said it needed an electrician to come in and troubleshoot. I turned to Thumbtack and in a short while, i had a response. Long story short, summit solutions came over on SUNDAY and fixed the problem. Post fix he provided me with answers to all my questions (aka what was wrong, what was the labor/parts breakout). I was very pleased to get the work done in a timely manner as the temp inside the townhome was getting pretty chilly. Great service overall.

My furnace wasn't working and Gerardo was able to come the same day. He was very punctual and diagnosed my issue very quickly. It also cost me less than my other quotes. If you have HVAC needs I would go with this service.

Ryan and his team showed up at the correct time and inspected the entire HVAC system. They told me everything I needed to know about it, from it’s age to what components may need to be replaced. They also changed out the air filter for me. When I’m in the market for a new HVAC unit, I’ll definitely give this company a call! Thanks!

Cool Tech was definitely the best mix of expertise, price and customer service out of the 5 HVAC contractors I had bid our house. They had the best price and a common sense approach on what options were worth paying for and which ones were not. They were the only group to provide a detailed engineered report on the unique HVAC aspects of my home. Once installed, there was a minor issue that occurred overnight. They came back first thing the next day and corrected it. First rate group all the way around.

I'm very grateful for Cobb's heating and AC. Larry was responsive to my family's needs, very professional, and what I appreciate the most is that it actually mattered to him that my family and I had been suffering in this heat. He was determined to help my family feel comfortable in our home once again. Larry responded fast, he arrived when he said he would, and he actually fixed my air problem. I made the mistake of choosing Universal Contractors when my AC first stopped working, and was unfortunately scammed out of $350. I learned my lesson and will now choose Cobb's heating and AC for all my HVAC needs from now on.

My ac was not cooling and it was hot! I needed someone to come out asap and Airtex came out and quickly found the problem. My ac was back up and running with cold air in no time. They knew what they were doing and I'm glad they were able to repair it and save me from breaking the bank. I could tell they had my best interest in mind. I will definitely be using Airtex for all my hvac needs!

Noe installed a brand new hvac unit in our house. The old unit had mold and rust. He took out all the old equipment and hauled it away. He worked efficiently and precisely to assure us a great installation. He was extremely careful to not get any dirt on the carpet in the house. Upon completion he carefully tested the unit and then demonstrated how to use it and maintain it.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

        • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
        • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
        • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
        • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
          • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
        • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
          • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
        • Your home has humidity problems.
        • Your home has excessive dust.
          • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
        • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
          • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
        • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
          • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
