Amber has sat with our dogs and cats for years now. Whether we have asked her to do drop by visits and feedings or dog walks, she has always done excellent work with our pets. I have a big lab/pit mix who is sweet but a bit of a handful when he sees other big dogs. Amber is pretty much the only person I trust to keep him out of trouble as well as keep him happy and well-walked. She's fantastic!

I’ve always been leery about taking my dog to a sitter. It didn’t take long to see how much these people value and love dogs. Their outgoing, welcoming approach to making my dog feel comfortable have me the confidence to give it a try. When I returned, my dog who “pouts” whenever I leave her was completely normal and happy. Thanks so much. Great job.

These ladies are absolutely amazing!! Would highly recommend them! My babies (3 dogs and cats) absolutely adore them when they come over! One of my dogs is diabetic and it's hard to find anyone that is able to accommodate her schedule (and mine) as well as administer her medication!

      About

I have been working with animals for 12 years on a volunteer basis. The program that I use now is brand new and improved, and no one else in the dog training industry has it in their position yet. It is not only a better more loving problem but I have found it is more efficient during training. Not only do I work one on one with the animals, I work with their families as well. I love both teaching and loving the pets, and working with the owners. I do realize that the price may be high for some people but if you'll try me out I will make it worth your time and money.

      About

I work very well with dogs and have one of my own who is an Australian Shepard mixed with a lab named Max. My roommate has a mini Australian Shepard named Lacey. I am willing to take your dog or dogs on as many walks as needed if he or she is a hyper breed. We all know that Aussie puppies have a never ending tank of energy so I am use to talking 2-3 walks a day. If your dog is used to a dog park, I can also take them there and stay as long as needed until their tank is empty. I love spending time with dogs so if your dog craves a lot of attention, that will be not a problem!

      About

I absolutely adore animals and love surrounding myself with them. I do understand the importance of having dogs walked consistently, but also understand sometimes people are busy. That's is where I come in! I am more than happy to take them out for fresh air and walks!

      About

I walk your animal, wherever and whenever. I love dogs! I haven't met a dog that I haven't bonded with.

      About

I have 23 years of experience as a pet owner, four years of experience working as a kennel assistant. The inspiration for the creation of Dog Pals was not only a passion and well-being for my furry companions, but others as well. My services are not only limited to dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, pigs, birds and pocket pets. Each pet's itinerary is custom designed to his or her specific needs.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

      • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
      • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
      • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
      • What are your different walk routes?
      • When will you pick up and drop off?
      • How will we communicate?
      • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
      • What’s your cancellation policy?
      • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
      • How and how often do I pay you?
      • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
