I currently take my daughter to Gaby and she loves her. She looks forward to going and loves having a life coach. We were looking for alternatives to a regular therapist. My daughter was going through a rough patch in her teen years and now she has become such an open loving teen. Everything I knew she was capable of.

James Dylan Hurley is a genuine person of impeccable integrity. I originally hired him a little over a year ago, as my massage therapist. He is the most kind, knowledgeable, passionate, professional, steadfast, massage therapist. What gives James' clients a remarkable advantage is his own life courage and experiences make him a pro-active Life Coach. James not only 'talks the talk, but walks the walk'. He has helped me change my life from being bedridden after a accident ... depression and acute physical pain ... into a world of hope and accomplishment. My future at 64 years of age, now stretches out with great anticipation. I plan to continue employing James, as my massage therapist AND Life Coach. I recommend James without reservations.

Cam Mosher is a talented, powerful inspiring man. I have experienced his Ropes Course and Fire Walk both as a participant and as part of his staff. His set-up for each aspect of each event invites deep introspection, understanding and acknowledgement of the magnificence inside each participant, and commitment to live a vision-driven life. Cam is instrumental in creating epiphany moments that enrich the lives of those who experience his coaching in their lives. I have experienced this myself and have witnessed it in the lives of hundreds of others.

I am so glad I invested in Blake and PIVOT. After years of therapy, it was so incredible to have someone that could help me process what was happening in my life *right now* on a deeper, more applied way. Blake's way of coaching is so powerful because of her experience in behavior and lifestyle change, but because she empowered me to discover and create a lifestyle that works for ME. She is so loving and enthusiastic about her clients, available for check-ins between sessions, and willing to invest in their process. Love my time working with Blake and will continue to develop that relationship for years to come!

When most people hear the word relationship they think of two separate individuals existing together. I have learned that the most important relationship in life is the one you have with yourself. Erika has had a profound affect on my life. She has taught me how to have a happy relationship with myself. She has helped me know that I am worthy of loving myself and she has taught me how to look at life in a different way than I used to. She has helped me find strength and confidence within myself that I did not know I had. Erika is very informed and in tune with the way the mind and spirit work and exist with each other. She has a gift of being able to explain things in a way that I clearly understand and she instills an inner desire that makes me want to apply my enlightened knowledge. She always embraces the truth which makes her a very validating, sincere, trustworthy person. Erika has the ability to connect with people and inspire them, and she has a genuine, strong desire to help people. She has gained her wisdom through inspiration, experience and hard work, and is a natural teacher. I know I would not have progressed and grown, as much as I have, without her help. I will forever be grateful for her!

I had Kelee do some coaching with me about some problems I was having. Our hour long chat helped me gain a different perspective. After the call, she sent a worksheet and recap of our conversation and issued a challenge to me that I needed to help me take action. I found her to be skilled and professional, as well as honest, personable and focused on my issues. I highly recommend her help to anybody looking to improve their life.

I have been seeing Shannon for adult ADD coaching for almost a year. She has helped me to clarify my goals and identify the steps I need to take to reach those goals. She has also supported me in developing the study skills, organizational habits and healthy self talk that I had never learned. I have now gone back to school and am working on my bachelor's degree. I could not recommend her more highly.

Mark is a very professional yet personable life coach. He provides a working environment that is safe and non-threatening in which he can guide me through exploring myself, my weaknesses and my strengths, and then teach me how to use both to positively affect every aspect of my life. I know that when I am working with Mark, I can say anything. Even the littlest of little thoughts that happen to cross my mind are perfectly legitimate and I don't worry about him critiquing what I say. In fact, I learned very quickly that any and every thought that I have is absolutely welcome, valuable, and important. Mark's style of coaching is unique in that he doesn't just solve the problems that I present during our sessions. That would be easy for him to do, I'm sure, but it wouldn't benefit me much in the long run. Instead, he uses them as opportunities to teach me the skills that are necessary to effectively resolve the problems myself. And by doing so, I have enabled me to resolve conflicts, cope with trauma, discover solutions to problems, reach personal goals, and in many others ways to ahieve success!

His "no bullshit" attitude and willingness to work with anything I threw at him made the experience that much better. He's awesome!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

        • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
        • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
        • Defining your career goals
        • Creating a plan for job searching
        • Improving networking strategies and skills
        • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
        • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
        • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

        Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

        • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
        • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
        • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
        • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
        • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
        • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
        • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

        What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
