Angela and her assistant were great! She emailed the evening before to confirm our time, and was willing to make some last minute changes. When she came, she did a very thorough job, opening cupboards to wipe them out, using the vacuum hose on all the furniture, cleaning the tracks of the windows, and even the windows themselves when needed. She asked questions when she wasn't sure what I wanted, and asked me to let her know if they forgot anything so that she could be sure to fix it. She's coming back in two weeks. :)

We had Thoro-Clene out to clean the tile in our shower and some carpet. After trying numerous solvents ourselves but to no avail, they came out and cleaned it perfectly. They also cleaned several carpeted rooms and our stairs. What we thought were permanent stains came out when they cleaned them. I would highly recommend them and will definitely be using them again.

Amazing job ... Challenging and questioned if he could do it but wow .. so much better then all my other  past cleaners .. He exceeded my expectations and   I have never seen everything look so clean  ...  From my the regular house cleaning stuff to  later coming back to do my windows, tracks  .. wood floors and finally the carpet and the even surprisingly stains are gone  .and sure it cost me a few pennies to finally do it all but once I saw what he could do .  I let him do the rest him to the rest and now it was done right all I need to do now is maintain it .. Thank you again Dan Finlay!

I hired John to wash the front windows of my house. It is amazing how fast and through he was! Even my dog walked right into the window after it was cleaned! It was honestly like the Windex commercial with the birds that fly right into the glass! Haha! I have and will continue to recommend him to others. He will be hired again for windows and I also plan to use him for carpet cleaning. Honest, good, trustworthy man. Extremely satisfied. My house looks so good!

We started the paint job in our living room then found it was too big a job for us, so we contacted Thumbtack. Curtis responded right away and came out the same day and discussed the job with us in Saratoga Springs. We had the house torn apart and part of the living room painted so were anxious to get someone who could come right away. He was great to work with and did his best to meet our expectations and schedule. He painted the living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room in about four days. The painting turned out beautifully and very professional. He was timely, conscientious, hard working and did a great job. We were so pleased with the quality of his painting and his willingness to work with us throughout the project. He was not the cheapest bid we got, but felt that his work was well worth the money and a fair price. We would certainly use him again!!

My house is noticeably cleaner! All of the cracks that I miss when I clean myself were clean!!! and she really took her time to make the atmosphere feel better by organizing all five rooms that I have no time to as a working mother to four children. Very convenient and affordable.

      About

Housecleaners will clean their client's home from top to bottom, but that does not mean everything is included in the basic cleaning rate. Basics include the following: - Dust all areas of the home - Clean/sanitize all areas of the bathroom - Clean all floors - Wipe all fixtures and appliances - Wipe all mirrors and pictures Not included are the following: - Cleaning around clutter - Cleaning bodily waste - Cleaning inside refrigerator/stove/cabinets - Moving furniture to access areas - Reaching high areas (above foot stool reach) - Windows inside/outside Many cleaners will charge an extra fee to clean the areas not included. To be a housecleaner, you should be in pretty good physical condition. You will be required to do a lot of bending over and walking around the house. If you have a bad back or bad knees, this business may not be for you.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How do you find a good carpet cleaning company?

Regular professional carpet cleaning can both extend the life of your carpet and remove harmful pollutants from your home. Finding a good carpet cleaning company is an important aspect of home maintenance. When choosing a carpet cleaner, consider these top three questions:

      • What method of carpet cleaning do you prefer? Steam cleaning is an increasingly popular method because it’s thorough and safe, and dries quickly enough for you to return to your home the same day the carpets are cleaned.
      • Have you checked the company’s references? Most cities are home to several carpet cleaning companies, so it’s a good idea to check their reviews and references. Look for references from people in your neighborhood with homes similar to yours.
      • What’s included in the base price? What other services does the carpet cleaning company offer? Some companies will move furniture for you, while others charge a fee for it. Some include stairs in the cost of the home’s cleaning, while others charge per step.

      What does carpet cleaning cost?

National average carpet cleaning prices range between $100 and $130. Carpet cleaning prices depend on how many square feet of carpet you want cleaned, how many rooms in one house or building will be cleaned, how stained your carpet is, how much the carpet cleaning company charges, your ZIP code, and the type of carpet you have. Cost per square foot can range from 20 cents to $1 or more, based on the above variables. Synthetic carpets are typically the least expensive to clean; natural fibers like wool cost more, as they require more care and attention, as well as more drying time. Excessive stains, challenging locations such as stairs, and accessibility also factor into your carpet cleaning price. Companies may charge a minimum service fee for cleaning a small carpet to cover their business expenses (paying employees, transporting the special equipment to your home). If your pet has repeatedly saturated the carpet with urine or if the fibers are extremely matted down, it may make more sense to completely replace your carpet than to continue to have it cleaned.

How much does it cost to clean a carpet?

Carpet cleaning costs vary depending on the type of cleaning, such as steam cleaning, and whether there are any stains that require special treatment. The main cost factors are the square footage of the carpet and the material it’s made from. The national average carpet cleaning price ranges from $100 to $130 for a typical suburban home, but steam cleaning prices start at an average of $120. In general, professional carpet cleaning ranges from an average of 20 cents to 50 cents per square foot, depending on where you live. Many companies have a minimum fee or room requirement — such as two rooms for an average of $40 each — and will charge more to clean carpeted stairs or a second floor. Finally, the carpet fiber type, density and pile will also affect the cost of cleaning; man-made fibers are stain-resistant and easier to clean, while wool carpeting is sensitive to water and requires more care.

How much does steam cleaning a carpet cost?

Several factors determine the cost of professional carpet cleaning, from the number of rooms in the home to additional carpeted areas to the products used to lift stains. The national average cost to steam clean a carpet ranges from $100 to $130. Most professional carpet cleaning companies’ rates are based on the number of rooms they clean, starting at an average base rate of $30 per room or $55 for two standard rooms and a hallway. Larger rooms may be charged as two rooms or incur a square footage fee. Carpet cleaners often charge by the step to clean a stairway as well as additional fees for closets and hallways; for example, some charge an average of $5 per step. Expect extra fees, starting at an average of $15 per stain, for lifting difficult food, pet or oil stains from carpets. Some carpet cleaning companies offer package deals to also clean furniture and throw rugs while in the home; a chair usually costs an average of $70 to be steam cleaned, and a couch costs an average of $100.
