We are no strangers to moving with 10 moves under our belt. The Movers 123 is by far the best experience and company we have ever used. They were polite, hard-workers who were clearly experienced and worked well as a team. There was a minor scratch on an old table which they pointed out right when it happened and had it repaired straight away (wasn't even necessary but totally appreciated). We are staying in temporary location until our home is built and we not even consider another company to do our final move. This is the company to hire without a doubt.

This was our second move in the past two months, so we have plenty of fresh memories to compare this experience. We had previously relocated halfway across the country, putting most of our belongings in storage and taking the basics with us to temporary housing. We hired The Other Side to move our possessions from storage to our new home. This was not a small move- it took two trips with full truckloads, and every step of the way the crew was polite, conscientious and helpful. They seemed to enjoy moving much more than we did, and they did a great job. We had no damaged items, and the price was less than half what had been quoted by a well-known corporate mover in the area. I would definitely hire them again and will recommend to others needing professional moving services.

The Right Track Moving and Storage team was outstanding. I purchased a large piece of furniture and employed Right Track to help move the piece to my house. The crew was extremely professional, arriving on time and explaining the process every step of the way. They problem solved when necessary, and ensured the best possible care of the furniture. Moreover, they were polite, honest and hardworking. I would recommend Right Track Moving and Storage for your large or small moving needs.

I cannot say enough about how great Giovanni and his crew were! I had a unique type of move taking some items from my deceased parents' house to mine and then moving some of my furniture out to make room. The crew, Juan, Pablo and Luis were prompt, so helpful, and fun. The items included several high end curios that are very fragile with rounded glass edges and the guys were so careful. They worked their butts off and did more than I originally asked for. I would recommend New Concept to anyone no matter how much you are moving. Shauna

Muscle Men Movers did a great job protecting and moving my pool table. They had the proper equipment and a truck with a lift. The guys were very nice and respectful of my suggestions while making the move. One of them even threw the football with my son for a few minutes when they finished! I highly recommend them!

We were very pleased with the job that Lee & Kentrelle did in moving us from Sandy. It was a big job, at least to us, and they worked very hard to get it done right! Unfortunately there were only two of them, due to unforeseen circumstances, which made it take longer than we liked, but I would hire them again.

I throughly enjoy working with companies that are this responsive. I was able to easily reschedule a time that worked for me. And one of the very few moving companies that don’t charge a minimum 3 hour charge. I had them move two heavy pieces of gym equipment from my garage to my basement.

I agree with other reviewers that there is a bit of a disconnect in the office and my estimate was significantly off from my final price. There is also a bit of excessive overwrapping but I can understand why for a long distance move. Rose and Jennifer worked to ensure my final price was closer to the estimate and within my budget. William in logistics ensured the truck arrived within the timeframe I needed for a very specific and tight move due to a work start date. I would say what makes Great Nation great are the moving crews. Eric ran my pick up and did an excellent job securing my items and documenting everything that was loaded into the truck. Fred and Carlos went out of their way to ensure my delivery came on a specific day that was out of their time range. They were pleasant and worked extremely hard even though it was probably an inconvenience for them. Fred was on the crew for my pick up and was familiar with my items and my moving situation and just an absolute pleasure to work with. Even though there were a few hiccups I still 100 percent recommend Great Nation if you are looking for a fast and efficient move with great movers who care. A lot of long distance companies want you to wait weeks for your items. For a NJ to FL move I had my move completed in 4 days. I would definitely use Great Nation again in the future and would say any issue I experienced would happen with any other company. I called after another moving company bailed on me 2 days before my move. Great Nation was able to jump in and coordinate my move, deal with my high stress level, and make sure all issues were handled to my satisfaction. A+++

Cook's Carpet Care was so easy to work with! Our carpets were new when we moved in, and I was disappointed to see them growing dingy so quickly despite our best efforts to keep them clean. I vacuum regularly, but a normal vacuum only sucks things up ON the carpet- it doesn't get deep down clean. I'm pleased to say that after having our carpet cleaned it looks like new again! Not only does it look great, but it FEELS so much better to walk on. After walking back and forth on the carpet it tends to get a bit matted, but having it cleaned made it fluff up again nicely. I'm all about supporting small, local businesses. I liked that I was working with friendly, ambitious people who weren't just trying to get the job "done," but get it right. They were timely, did a great job, and the carpet didn't take forever to dry (as it has with other companies I've worked with). Would definitely recommend!

I highly recommend the guys at Lyons Services. They were able to accommodate my last minute request to do a local move and were punctual, friendly and professional. From my first impression I could tell they were good hearted, hard working guys. They were careful not to damage either property as well as my furniture. Twice they found jewelry underneath furniture and brought them to me, which was awesome, of course! Again, according to my experience with them, I can confidently recommend them for your loving needs!

Scott and Tony were great! They worked hard and were very professional. They were a little late but called beforehand to let us know. The quote given (by Marisa in the office) was accurate and there were no hidden charges or up-charges when the men came. The men made the adjustmentment for their being a little late with no charge to me. We very much appreciated their help with our move and I would highly recommended them.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
