Apo and his crew did a great job removing the massive tree in my backyard. I was worried there'd be a problem with all the nearby powerlines, fences, and sheds, but they got the job done quickly and for half the price other landscaping services were estimating. Quality work, fast and a great value. I would definitely hire them again.

We were highly satisfied with all the work done by integrated services. Luis was very good to work with, he responded quickly and completed the work within a short time period. All of his employees were kind and courteous. We plan to use Luis for other landscaping and hardscaping projects in the future. We've received a lot of compliments from the neighbors on the work he did.

Gerardo was fantastic. He went above and beyond to make sure my lawn would look good, and made sure to point out concerns about the coverage of my current sprinklers. He suggested I replace a few to make sure I got water where it was needed. All my neighbors have asked who I used, so they can hire him when they have landscaping needs. I literally couldn't be happier.

..By far, no exaggeration, the most professional & most dignified landscaping crew I've encountered thus by far! These guys will leave your property looking like you've spent lots of money to have it done, but in reality their estimated quotes is much less then any other local landscaping crew in the Salt Lake Valley. Mele Vi & Sons landscaping will give you A+ service, for unbelievable low prices everytime! This business has a group of hard working, excellent & phenomal working crew. I encourage you all of you to give them a call.. You will not regret! Guarantee 💯

I’m so glad we hired Hak. He came when he said he would and he did a great job. He fixed a couple of things that our previous landscapers were lazy about. From now on, when we have landscaping problems that we will need a pro for, we’re hiring HT.

Brian and his crew did an amazing job clearing my yard making it beautiful as when it was first installed. I'm working overseas and was in town only a week looking for a new landscaper as I had waited months with unfulfilled promise from another landscaper who was supposed to do a spring cleanup. He fit me in the schedule within a day which is unheard of and after the initial cleanup when my tenants kept emailing about the sprinklers and the timer he went out to the house several times and finally got it fixed without additional charge even though he is extremely busy. He also was quick at responding to my requests, always writing me long detailed emails. I'm very thankful and thrilled I found an amazing guy who I hope to work with on many other projects when I return home. Thank you Brian. Look forward to having you back for the fall cleanup and the other projects we talked about when I return to SLC!

JV Landscaping did a fabulous job. Initially, we had a couple issues with communication, but we learned that they had an emergency job and got to our home late. JV Landscaping worked quickly, left our yard in lovely shape (no trash or anything left), and did everything (and a little more) that we requested. We will definitely have them back in the future.

We needed a plan to clean up our terraced backyard. It had been neglected by the previous homeowners, and we need a plan to get started. Bristlecone Design was very quick to respond to our post on Thumbtack, and was available to meet to look at the yard and measure. We had the design in a couple of weeks as expected. We are scheduled to have a review of the plan and receive recommendation for landscapers. We are very satisfied with our experience.

Daniel was great hanging my Christmas lights. He made the extra effort to ensure everything was done professionally and weatherproofed. He was also more than fair with the price. Based on our experience with Daniel on our lights we’ve already planned a few other sprinkler and landscaping projects for the Spring. I’d hire Daniel again for my lights and I’m glad I found his company early on before his schedule was too busy to get the job done before the holidays.

After dealing with many fly-by-night and getting blown off landscapers we found our new go-to company. Sam came out, looked over the yard and gave us a great estimate. He completed the work quickly and cleaned up after himself. We will definitely be using them again.

All good! Ashley tailors her work to the needs of your yard. Sassy Grass is a very. versatile yard service. Nice to have a service that can professionally do it all, lawns, shrubs, weeding, disposal of clippings, even exterior windows. Always at a reasonable price. A great value by comparison to most other providers. Honest, dependable, trustworthy and friendly. The workers are all quality people, as well as professional landscapers. 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion. Since retaining their services, my yard has never looked better. They also do a biannual cleanup on my Mother's yard. My Mother fully shares my high opinion of their work, and my Mother is not easily pleased :) Steven K.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

    • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
    • Read online reviews of client experiences.
    • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
    • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
    • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
