I have used Critter Care's services several times to check on my two cats, bring in the mail and check the house in general when I have been out of town. Beth has provided excellent service.

Jen watched our 2 cats while we were on vacation for two weeks. She was awesome. She came and played with our cats and gave them lots of attention and love for almost an hour each time she came to the house. She is very honest and trustworthy. We would definitely request her to check on our animals again. We appreciate that she truly loves animals and has the medical training to care for them if anything happens.

JaNeal was AMAZING!!! She was always very easy to get in touch with, kept in contact with me throughout her stay with my 2 year old tabby cat, Gibbs, and left our house clean and in great shape! I would absolutely recommend her, and will be using her for all of our future trips. You can't find a better cat sitter than JaNeal!

She is a very nice lady. Gave a fixed rate at the beginning of the cleaning, so you can expect what to pay at the end of the day. Besides cleaning the house, she also gave an advice to what to do as a tenants. Unfortunately, the new tenant that move to the house didn't satisfied with the cleaning and the landlord has to hire a new cleaner to clean the house.

This was our first time hiring a pet sitter and Laurel was the perfect choice. She is extremely professional and responsive to emails. She took great care of our cat and emailed us updates and photos twice a day. She also took care of the mail and packages (even sent us a picture of a package we received). When we got back from our 10-day trip the house was just as we'd left it and our cat was happy and relaxed (usually, she's quite nervous when we've been gone for just a weekend). We would definitely use Laurel's services again.

I loved that Bradley would send me pictures or videos of my sweet pup while he was pet sitting. I knew he cared for my dog as much as I did and that Remus was in good hands. It took away a lot of the guilt I had about having to leave my dog behind while we went on our honeymoon.

We actually ended up not needing Gina due to some last second change of plans, but her willingness to stay in contact with us, including coming to our house and walking through our pets needs put our minds at ease. We will definitely contact her in the future.

I had Collin clean out a main drain line. Showed up with his helper and were able to get under the house and run a drum snake down the drain. He was patient and collected when assessing the situation. Happy to recommend him.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

    • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
    • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
    • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
