Dion came out and gave me a bid on the project and showed me samples of the gutter and several leaf guards. We had a couple of weather delays but Dion kept me informed about the revised schedule. Dion and his brother did an excellent job tearing off the existing gutters and installing a complete set of replacement rain gutters with leaf guards on our home. They did a good job of cleaning up the job site when they were done. Dion was able, for a nominal fee, to reinstall the heating cables that were disturbed by the roofers who had previously replaced my shingles. They did a very professional job on the heating cables and the new gutters. I would recommend them to anyone needing this type of work.

Mike came when he said he would, estimated and completed a repair job that other roofers had passed on or not shown up. And when it appeared to still be leaking after a downpour, he fixed leaky gutters to prove it was not the roof. AshCo does thourough work and stands behind it.

Ryan at rhino repairs was the first to respond and the only business to follow through. He was courteous, friendly, honest and fast. His bid was very competitive with other roofers and after we had the contract signed, he was there early the next day and worked his ass off for two days with his crew and was done when he told me he would be done. Great guy, great business. Would definately recommend to others.

Everyone involved with our roofing project, took the time to answer our questions no matter how simple or nonessential those questions appeared to be. Kyle, was very easy to work with and ensured that everything in order with our insurance company. The roof project was quick and painless on our part. In and out in a day and a half. The roofers kept things clean along the way.

Israel did a great job helping me pick the right roofing materials for my home, completed the whole job in a single day, and was by far the best price out of all of the quotes I got from a variety of roofing companies. There may be better quality roofers out there, but only if you're willing to pay a lot more.

I'm very happy with my new roof! Jose and his team did an excellent job and completed the project on time. Most other roofers wanted to just slap a new layer of shingles over my old roof, but Jose scraped it clean, replaced some damaged wood, put down the new roof, installed a ridge vent, and then painted some ugly vent pipes so they blended in. He put planks down under the dumpster to protect my driveway from cracking. He also happened to be the best price of the 3 quotes I received.

DJ came to install a screen door for the back patio. From the get go, he sent me multiple options for doors with prices, and gave me a set price for labor. He bought the door for me and all the parts that were needed. He was able to squeeze me in last minute, and he had the door installed within a few hours. DJ is very affordable, professional, and I would highly recommend him!

I really appreciate the experience working with Mattie and his team. As soon as Mattie came into the picture from bidding to scheduling, I knew I had a trusted roofer/contractor on my side. He also presented the most professional bid I received and included the wall repairs/paint caused by the roof leak, which is important to me. I strongly recommend Master Roofing!

My window well kept filling with water and flooding my basement. I called my landlord, who in turn called Kore Investments LLC Property Maintenance Solutions. They were out the SAME morning, getting the flooding stopped and finding out the cause. There was ahuge snowstorm and it wasn't safe on the roof and i thought Christmas was ruined because it wasn't supposed to stop until after Christmas. But the 23rd Jen emailed and said she wanted to try and work a Christmas miracle. She sent Roofers out ASAP and now my basement is better than new. They were prompt, they kept their promises and cleaned up after themselves. They kept me informed and never left me guessing. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

We threw a lot at Austin and he was wonderful to work with. He was the first to respond to our work request; he came in with creative, affordable and effective solutions, and he made it very easy to stay connected through the process. Our projects had a lot of unexpected complications. He continued to provide solutions and quality work, improving our home for its new owners.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
