We have had an outstanding experience with Mr. Duvall. He goes the extra mile and runs an honest and upfront business. He repaired our fence gates for a fair price when the original installers cut corners and left us with a non functional gate. He has also helped us with other issues on our home. He is genuine and we will be using him in the future.

Bil has done several jobs for me. The first was a emergency. We had a terrible wind that blew down some of the fence and one of my dogs ran away. After getting the dog back I called Bill. He came over to my house, brought all the posts, wood and cement and rebuilt the fence. Since that time Bill has weather striped doors, removed a old dish washer and old filter system under the sink. Then another time he put down new tiles in the kitchen and replaced the old balisters in a hand rail. Bill always comes on time and has his truck with all the tools he needs. Bill does good work and knows how to do everything, plumbing, electrical, etc. He has also given me good advise , sometimes I get some crazy ideas.

It was excellent working with Phillip at Crown Services. I highly recommend hiring them for your fencing needs. He was extremely communicative throughout the whole process. He was very thorough when he first came to check out the project (ripping out old fence and installing new fence). He is very friendly and professional. He got me an estimate for the project within a day of seeing the fence. It was initially higher than I wanted to spend, but Phillip was willing to negotiate a lower price that I was comfortable with. He came on the exact scheduled day to start the project and then he and his crew finished within 4 days. Overall, a great experience (I've had bad experiences in the past with contractors and so this was a breath of fresh air).

He did a great job and was very thorough, professional, and right on time. He also did a great job and we were very happy. We thought it was a bit pricey though. He quoted us $750 to sand, stain a deck and fence. We thought it would take all day, but it only took about 4 hours for him and a helper. So, it ended up being $150 per hour which seems pricey for staining work, and the price didn’t include the stain. But we were also in a time crunch and he was willing to work in our time frame. Overall we are very happy with the job, our deck and fence looks great, it was on the expensive side.

Scott built a fence with a double wide gate around my front yard which required him to level it on a grade and add topsoil. My neighbors are happy with this improvement and tell me it makes my house look nicer. Scott also did some welding adding a double-sided keyed lock to a kennel door, very nice. He later added electrical outlets with a GIF inside the kennel. He is a great handyman for any project of any size.

We needed our fence gate repaired. Mr. Hansen figured out the best way to fix it so it would be strong and not blow down in the windstorm that frequent our area. The fence looks great. He gave us an honest price and completed it over a 1 week period

DP Service Pros helped me with many odd and needed jobs I needed to complete in a short amount of time for my home to be on the market. They installed light fixtures, assembled furniture, tore out flooring, and installed beautiful subway tile flooring in both my laundry room and guest bathroom. They are always ready and eager to help. Gave their full attention to detail. Very satisfied with their work.

Carlos was easy to work with and did a beautiful job with our fence. He is an incredibly hard worker and gave us a great price for all the grueling cleanup before the project even started. He was also willing to listen and make changes as we did along the way.

We had Robert add some lattice fencing along our backyard and had him stain the lattice and our existing fence. He was professional and very hard working. He got the job done quickly and we are very happy with how it turned out. It looks even better than I had imagined it.

Initially Eddie (Etika) came out for a fence estimate install. With his background he was able to see some issues we would have should we install a fence on the crumbling retaining wall we had. He suggested several methods to fix and reinforce the wall. We decided to have him build a nice rock retaining wall with the fence posts in the wall for extra support. The wall looks very classy and stable. He also dug out 12+ stumps, removed eight big trees and a handful of shrubs, poured and finished a great slab of concrete and leveled the backyard for sod install. He and his team did great work! Were easy to work with and most importantly for us he provided lots of suggestions and guidance for possible future projects. I would highly recommend Etika Saafi!

Tali and his crew did a great job on our driveway. We had sinking concrete under our carport. The poles that hold our very heavy carport up needed to be reinforced. He did that, replaced our whole driveway, and gave me many great ideas to improve other things and did some concrete repair in the backyard too. He tore down a terrible wooden shed we had at the end of the carport and put in a wooden fence and gate. He has hauled all the junk away and left our yard looking good. He is very friendly, a hard worker and has lots of experience. All the guys that helped him out were very nice and hard workers like Tali. I would recommend him for any large or small jobs.

Excellent work. Brett installed our fence quickly. He also took our ideas for the fence and he built upon those ideas to construct a fence that was both unique and beautiful. Many people in our neighborhood stopped to admire his work and set up their own future projects. Besides the fence, Brett also redid our front awning and railing. We had hired a handyman last year and he did a terrible job: I had to fire the guy. Brett came in and completely remodeled the terrible work and ended up creating a beautiful masterpiece that will give our house significant curbside appeal. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. He worked hard to make sure we knew what he was doing and to work on both these projects quickly. He was there everyday working long hours to finish the projects in a very timely manner. His prices, for the high quality work he performed was also very reasonably priced: no buyers remorse here. We are so impressed by Brett's devotion to customer service and masterfully skilled work and outcome, that we plan on hiring Brett again next time we have some major projects on the house. Do not hesitate to call him.

Very good communication on what is going on and very easy to work with. I had his team work on my fence after it blew down during a wind storm and he showed up within an hour of me calling him in the middle of a snow storm in progress. I was so impressed with him and his work that I signed him up for more work. I've dealt with a few handy men and I wished I would have been lucky enough to find him for other jobs I have had done.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
      • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
      • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
      • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

      • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
      • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
      • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
      • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
      • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
      • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
      • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
      • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
