Apo did a fantastic job making sure everything was done exactly how I wanted. He went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with the result and helped me with a few extra things as a bonus. Definitely, recommend! Will be calling him again when I need more tree services.

I had a great experience working with Kalua and Miracle tree services. Kalua was very professional and accommodating. He even waited for me to get home from work to walk me through a quote. He was extremely fair in pricing and knowledgeable in suggestions. I kept his info to refer to friends and family.

Neil was awesome. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing any type of tree services. I had him come to my house to grind two tree stumps from trees I had recently cut down. Neil was very professional, prior to coming to my house he communicated very well with me in arranging the meeting time, then was here when he said he was going to be here. Neil's price for grinding down the tree stumps were extremely fair and far less than what I was expecting to pay. While Neil was here, he even walked around my front yard and took the time to give me advice on taking care of the other 7 trees in my front yard. I so appreciated the fact that he took the time to do this because he noticed three of my trees had a fungus problem and told me how I could treat them. He could have easily been a pushy salesman and tried to upsell me on his services, but told me what to buy, where to buy it, and how to apply it to the tree to start combatting the fungus. Neil has a customer for life with me. For the service I received, I will not look for another person when I need help with my trees.

I contacted Audel very late in the evening and he was there first thing next morning, in the rain, to look at the job. He is very eager to work, very pleasant. We agreed on a price and he arrived next day and had the job finished in no time. The job: Weeding and yard cleanup. We had laid large paving stones to cover the entire yard of one of our businesses. Weeds and small trees had poked up between the cracks, along the building, and edges. I would use him again in a minute.

I had a tree in the backyard that was interfering with power cables going from the house to the pole. They were resting on the cable and as fall/winter approached I'm sure they only would have been heavier. This is a recent purchase and the inspector said it should be dealt with. Rob responded to my request quickly and fairly, we worked out a time he could come look at it to discuss any issues and nail down a price. He hauled away the tree branches that he cut and cleaned up nicely. Would recommend to anyone.

I hired Luis Sosa and Integrated Services to do several landscaping projects. The built a retaining wall in my front yard and re-sodded several areas as well as general clean up of my back yard. I could not be happier with their work. They did a fantastic job. They showed up when they said they would and completed the job on time and for the price they quoted. Luis is a professional and I highly recommend his work.

I had to have my backyard completely torn out, leveled, and have sod installed. HGO went above and beyond by also trimming my trees and putting in a BEAUTIFUL rock path. The job was done very well and very quickly. I intend to hire them again in June to install a fence and rebuild my porch.

Marcus helped me with my annual "fall cleanup" of the yard. I have a quarter acre lot with about 50% of that bordered with flower beds and shrubs. It involved lots of weeding in rocky flower beds, shrub trimming, and removal of a couple of small trees. He really transformed the yard and left little to no debris. I left a lot of the specifics how things should look up to him and was pleased with how it turned out. The price was fair, and the day of service, I was surprised that he and his crew were able was able to finish everything so quickly. I had definitely expected it to take longer. I am seriously considering having Marcus come back on a recurring basis so that things look this good all the time.

Mike and his team did a great job getting our sprinkler system installed in our backyard and refurbishing the front system. Our home is 40 years old, with lot of big trees. There had never been automatic sprinklers, so they had their work cut out for them (all those tree roots and rocks. Mike was great at communicating always letting us know when he'd be at our home. They finished ahead of time. Very professional, and obviously they know what they are doing. Thank you...we have WATER!

Gary is fantastic! Very professional and thorough. When we discovered a nasty tree root had grown over one of the lines, Gary dove in and fixed the problem, moving sprinkler heads and repairing broken pipes. Very knowledgeable and capable--I recommend him highly!

We were so impressed with G&M Landscape & Tree service! We needed a lot of work done FAST. They went above and beyond to expedite our service to get it done and done right. They don't stop until you are satisfied with their work, when you are happy, they are happy! They put in our sod, flagstone steps and extended a sprinkler valve box. They had to level out our yard, bring sand in and level the flagstone, bring top soil for the sod and remove the existing grass, and move a lot of dirt! We have had a lot of projects going on in our yard this summer and have hired over 7 other crews & contractors and G&M has been the best by far. They get it done and get it done right! I highly recommend them, they were a pleasure to work with!

Very nice people and was a hard worker while he was here, but I suspect Jose bit off more than he could chew and didn't know how to get out of the situation so he just disappeared on me. Estimate said it would include stump grinding but then after the trees were down he said he couldn't do the two large stumps and wanted $400 more (didn't seem to know difference between stump grinding and removal) so now I've paid $1200 to have two trees felled and some bushes removed and still have stumps where I need to re-plant. He didn't know what Blue Stakes was and couldn't grasp how to "call before digging" which made me nervous he would get hurt as there are a lot of utilities running through my property. Been trying different ways to get in touch to see when he would be coming to do the rest of what we agreed to for over a week with zero response. Extremely disappointed.

Mark did an awesome job on my tree he trimmed 4-5 feet off the top and around the sides; he also raised the canopy 6 feet all around except for 8 feet on the road side. He didn’t try to gouge us on the price, I thought his fee was very fair and reasonable. We live in Washington State but keep our house in Layton, UT. I have many friends between Layton and Salt Lake and if they ever need tree service you can believe that I would defiantly recommend Mark. I have 4 other trees on my property in Layton so Mark will be hearing from me again soon, you can bet on that. Thanks again Mark for the great work you did on my tree!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
