Introduction: I pay close attention to the students interests and learning styles. I find ways to make learning music enjoyable and satisfying for each individual student. Progress is fast and inevitable when the student is encouraged to be the best they can be and confident about their approach to new music! I love sharing my passion and experience in music in a way that inspires others to be the best they can be while finding their own artistic voice.

George Simon » Experience & Reviews My Experience & Reviews Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on google_plusone Average Score: (out of 3 reviews) 5 (Excellent) Write a Review Filter by: Sort by: I am a mostly self-taught guitar player, and I find myself hitting a wall with what I am able to accomplish. George has done a great job at figuring out where I'm at technically, and helping me to improve from there. He also has a good way of explaining music theory, (something I have never studied) and has encouraged me to find my own voice when it comes to playing guitar. I have studied with other instructors (or tried to) that seem to have a very regimented way of teaching no matter where you're at when you come to them, but George genuinely listens and has worked with me on what I need to work on. His lessons are inspirational.

I started lessons with George when I was 9. I am now 13, and my guitar playing would be nonexistent if I did not take lessons with George. We have covered many different genres of music and because of that I now appreciate all styles of music. I can also analyze music due to the extensive music theory I have learned. He has encouraged me to play music with others and has taught proper technique. I am also in a bluegrass band. In our early stages, George even helped coach us. I tired out for jazz band this year at my school, and George has helped me with sight reading, improvisation, and general music theory. with his help I made the band. All in all, George is a fantastic guitar teacher!" -Garrison A - Salt Lake City, UT

I had only been playing for a few months before my lessons with George, and now I’ve been playing for nearly three years; having lessons for most of that time. I was a little hesitant at the idea of taking guitar lessons at first, as I had no idea what to expect from them. I had totally convinced myself that I didn’t need any sort of teaching, and that I was perfectly fine to limit my playing to just guitar tablature, but that definitely didn’t stop my parents from having me take lessons! For only having a small amount of time put into this instrument, I was headed down the right track with George’s influential lessons. He was able to assess my current playing and promptly started me out on things that I felt were making me improve, and that were at the right difficulty for me. George also didn’t always have me play things that he wanted, but rather, he always looked for input from me, for music that I liked to play, or songs that I enjoyed listening to, and then had me work on things similar to that. Even after a couple of lessons, I felt like I had learnt so much, and improved tremendously. If you ever feel like you’re stuck in a “playing rut,” or if you are just starting out on the guitar, then coming to George will be perfect for you. He’s incredibly smart, very experienced, well versed in all sorts of genres and techniques, super helpful in buying new guitars and other equipment, and he is totally willing to get you to where you need to be! Lessons with George were amazing for me, and totally redefined how I should play and think about playing guitar. This guy is awesome! -Harrison S – West Valley City, UT

George Simon is a great instructor who thinks outside of the box. I've been working on becoming an instructor myself, and have become better because of the lessons I have taken from George. I have performed and played for years in many bands with musicians of all levels, and have received great reviews on all sides. People are surprised when I say I'm still taking lessons. When you have an instructor like George around, you know there is always something more to learn. His teaching techniques and information cover a wide range that not everyone covers. I'm amazed at what new book or angle he is working on for himself each week. I have much respect because he is always pushing the boundaries and taking me there with him.

George is sick! Taking lessons for me was something that I never felt I needed because I was progressing so well on my own. However there was a point where I felt like I hit a wall. I was still learning how to play new songs, but learning songs was nothing more than just moving my hands to certain places on the fretboard. I wanted to know more about music, and I had too many questions that the internet just wasn't answering. After my first lesson with George, I learned a lot about music theory, and I had a new motivation to play. After taking a few more lessons, I shared with him that I would like to play in front of a more significant audience other than my dog. Soon after, I was auditioning for a band that would play at a bunch of different venues. This band has gotten my foot in the door to more opportunities to play, and I've met some rad people along the way. Without George, I still would've been isolated in my room, strumming for my dog.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I began teaching one of my students when he was just a beginner at 9 years old. Since then, his playing has progressed at an amazing level because he loved the music we were learning so much. His confidence and ability grew every week because he understood that his continued patience, determination, and love for his instrument would lead to great things. He is now 12 years old and playing at music festivals with a bluegrass band that he started with his friends. I am very proud of teaching this particular student because his progress and confidence is an inspiration to me and my other students!
