Introduction: Breath: Because we breathe, we can sing; we sing on breath. Our body is uniquely designed so that we can sing without effort, with ease and with the knowledge that if we can breathe, we can sing. We sing on vowels A-E-I-O-U, and the breath carries them out to the universe. The exercises that are used in classes are specifically designed to get the student's jaw out of the way, to relax the tongue (a muscle) and to align the vocal chords (muscle) so that the air flows freely and smoothly and therefore, releases tension and strengthens the vocal chords. Using the Horatio Connell Master vocal exercises, the student will learn to release tension and more easily allow the air to pass through the vocal chords. These exercises are more specifically geared to pop, rock, jazz, and folk singers. Embrace all that you have been given, sing with ease, love and let your sound echo throughout the universe. If you can breathe, you can sing! Patricia hails from New York City and has been living in Salt Lake City since 2009. She has been singing since the age of 10, in the choir, and professionally for the past 40 years. She's traveled to Europe and all over the United States as the featured singer with the American Tap Dance Orchestra and her own band, Patty T's Blue Revue. She now works with Roy Matthews (one of the top three winners of the Susan Milsaps songwriting contest in 2013) and sings in various venues around Salt Lake City. She has studied with many vocal coaches and teachers and most recently, with Gerry Jannssen whose technique she realized early on was the right one for her because it was geared to pop, jazz, folk, and rock singers.
