I posted a roofing repair job on Thumbtack, Mike responded the same day, gave me a bid and completed the work the next day. The work was very professionally completed, job site cleaned up all in one day. I am very pleased with how it all turned out. I feel good about recommending Mike to others.

We knew the shingles on our roof would not last another year. Our roof is steep and the dormer windows made it a daunting project, so we started looking for a professional. Our neighbor (who had their roof redone last year) had nothing but good to say about their Intermountain West Contractors roofing job: competitive pricing, quality product, great warrantee and workmanship, professional workers, and a terrific cleanup. And from our own search, we had to agree that they appeared to be the best bid. Intermountain West Contractors arrived this morning and were finished tearing off the old roof and swamp cooler, and installing the new roof, with the entire area clean again by around 5:00 (before it started to rain.) We were impressed! Thanks, Intermountain West Contractors!

The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars was the drywall guy they worked with. Roofing was very well done, and finished in 1 day. They were also very good at working with insurance. They arranged to have some interior damage handled by a separate drywall contractor, who did good work, but was very hard to schedule with, and postponed appointments frequently.

I had already had several bids, but logged into thumbtack for the first time to try it out. Brandon contacted me, showed up to bid, gave me the bid on the spot and described completely what he was going to do. I called about a week later to let him know I was ready, they were laying the new roof the next week. The crew was fast, respectful and fast. Brandon came out personally to estimate and I always felt like he cared. The prices, quality of roof and material were all top notch. I couldn't ask for anything more. My roof looks great, it cost what he estimated it to cost and they hauled everything away. I talked to several roofing contractors that are top rated on the local hot new classified site, none of them seemed to care - I have 3 attached roofed storage areas that didn't need a new roof, they kind of assumed what needed to be done so I had no idea what they were planning on doing, Brandon listened to what I wanted done and being an owner/operator goes a long way in these times of huge corporations owning everything. Thanks for the great roof!!

The spot was tight so Gary did the whole job himself to minimize damage to plants, gas line, etc. Even though he was peak-season busy he took care of the job fast-even before his sprinkler system was on at home! Digging a 6 ft deep hole in a small area with rock hard clay is a pain but he was great-reliable, honest, tidy. We feel confident that our new stop and waste will "see us out". Thanks Gary!!!!!

I submitted a request to High Point Roofing for roof tile and soffit repair. Got a reply in 15 minutes, met with Luis later that day and 72 hours later the job was done (on Monday, after the weekend). Great job, great price and very pleasant to work with. Highly recommended.

David Hansen finished my basement. He framed a little bathroom, installed a shower, toilet, and sink, including the water to each of those. He added lighting for the bathroom and installed a pocket door and floor tiles. He did the dry wall, texturing and painting for the bathroom and the adjacent bedroom in the project. There was a plumbing exhaust pipe running across the room below ceiling level, and he was able to cover that with a wood covering that looks like a beam across the ceiling. He finished the room off with a door he hung, including handles and moulding. I am very happy with his work, and his reasonable rates. I would definitely hire him again! As an added bonus, he made a headboard for the bed in the room.

We had them come out for a bathroom remodel, The bathroom was a night and day transformation. The tile they did was amazing, we get compliments on it all the time. The whole job came together very well. From the tile, to the lighting, and the addition to a shower that was not previously there. Mike helped us pick out all the new material, that all matched a went together perfectly. The job got done on the predicted schedule. All of the workers where friendly, and did a great job of keeping things as tidy as possible, so that we could continue to use the basement during most of the project. My wife was very grateful for that since we have 3 young kids that get into everything. I would highly recommend these guys ! We plan to do the upstairs as soon as possible, and will be calling them back for our kitchen remodeling. Use them with confidence.

I highly recommend Double M Roofing! I was a little concerned a first because they didn't have a lot of reviews yet on Thumbtack, but once I met Steve I knew I was working with a solid professional outfit that has years of experience. Their bid was fair and they got the work done on schedule, even with some serious Utah rain storms. Steve or his brother Blaine were always on site running the crews and putting in the work. They even let me haul off some extra junk I was trying to get rid of. Roof looks great, I highly recommend using Double M Roofing.

The company underpitched me an offer to get the roof done. When they began the work, they realized it was more difficult then expected. Naturally, they would have charged me much more then their original agreement. But they stuck to their word and in this day and age the more reliable a company can be with giving their trusting word. Will ultimately define the level of loyalty out of their customers and community. I would gladly tell anyone I meet that this is the company they want when needing roof repairs or replacement. Additionally, the roof is gorgeous. Timely work done, and done to perfection. They cleaned up every scrap of trash, and communicated with me the whole way through. How could anyone ask for better service?

James was a pros, pro while working on our project. We had a very expensive harringbone porcine tile (wood looking) floor put in about 5-years ago that unfortunately started to show it wasn't installed correctly. James was able to help us identify the problem areas, and through his vast experience, correctly fix the issues . We feel like most flooring professionals would have tried to get us to replace the entire floor. The project was not only cost effective but James provided top-notch quality work. He's a great guy and is fairly priced. We would highly recommend him.

We live in Twin Falls, ID (200 miles away from the Contractors office). We bought a new (built in 1999) home in September 2017. It was a VA purchase and should have been inspected better but when we were putting up the Christmas Lights in December we noticed that there was dry rot on the eaves of the home. The original shingles had not been overlapped on the eaves so water damage was discovered. I contacted several roofing contractors and SEARS was the Contractor we picked. Their professionalism and attention to detail was tops. Their response time was very short and I have never seen a better roof than we have now. I will use their Contractors in the future.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
