STOP... Are you looking for: AWESOME, TIMELY, PROFESSIONAL, FAIR, COMPETITIVE, PATIENT, KNOWLEDGEABLE, SAFE, EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION, FANTASTIC EMPLOYER, TRUSTWORTHY...LOOK NO MORE!!😁 Awesome... If your on the fence about who to hire for your next remodel, repair, or anything else...look no further! It is not hard to put into words exactly how awesome Mike at AshCo Custom Construction is. Timely... All work needed we done from the hail damage to our home, (roof, gutter, siding), was done quickly without compromising quality or price. Professional... Mike is very professional, his contractor's are professional, friendly, and were outstanding to work with. They also left the job complete and did not leave a mess for me to clean up. Fair, Competitive, Patient ... Well as you know hiring a contractor can be confusing, costly, and sometimes frustrating. Mike is kind, explained everything to me in English. (The Insurance company not so much...) The final price was fair and competitive, worth every penny!!! After months of trying to get my entire roof replaced, (not just half???) Mike was able to help us with the red tape. He was patient about how SLOW they were in processing our claims. Knowledge... Mike is very knowledgeable when it comes to construction; from knowing how to fix the shortcuts and missed code requirements taken by the builder correctly without compromise to cost, schedule, and quality. Mike has a wealth of knowlege to assist with insurance claims, red tape, quality of materials, and pricing. Fantastic Employer... Mike's knowldge is also very highly spoken of by his team and contractors. AshCo Custom Construction hires experienced, quality, and professional crews who are courteous, thourough, and efficient. Safety... All of the crews that come out to work on our home conducted thier work in a safe manner, using proper tools and safety measures. Excellent Communication... AshCo and Mike were very easy to communicate with. If he didn't answer...he always called back, responded to text messages, provided quotes, invoices as needed to help us and get our home back to tip top shape. Trustworthy... You won't lose or be sorry when trusting this company. I highly recommend AshCo Custom Construction for any job you may have...large or small this is where the search stops. I can't express how much gratitude we have for finding Mike via Thumbtack. Definitely a 10 Star service company aimed to leave customers happy and headache free. Chris & VaLynn Goble 😁

Steve was very friendly and professional. In and out very quickly. Patched a wall in about 10-15 minutes one day, and came back the next day and finished touching up in about 10-15 as well. Would definitely use him again, and recommend!

I was very pleased with the work Cransten Handyman did for me. I needed a water damaged wall repaired and they were very responsive to my messages and gave me an estimate right away. Once they went to see the project in person they realized the damage wasn't quite as extensive as the photos I sent them so they lowered the bid quite a bit. What a nice surprise! :) They called to give me updates and let me know exactly how much they were going to charge. I'm very pleased with their work and would definitely hire them again in the future.

Bruce and his son Jake are great. Communication was awesome, and they started two days after giving me the quote. I had seven other contractors bid on our garage foundation, driveway, and patio. Bruce was very competitive and very knowledgeable. He took the time to explain how he would approach it, and his years of experience were obvious. I have 100% confidence that I made the right choice.

I’ve bought and sold a number of houses and have usually painted them myself so I am very much a perfectionist. When I was selling my last home, I was crunched for time and hired a couple different paint contractors but was very disappointed. I was really nervous about hiring it out for my latest house but Don and his crew were amazing! I hadn’t planned on hiring painters when I bought my new house. When I got the keys though I realized how bad everything looked inside. The walls were old plaster and ugly enough, but the previous owner had pulled down a bunch of built-ins, shelving and art work, leaving holes everywhere! Plus, they had different colors in every room, and very dark colors which made the whole house feel depressing. I HAD to paint this house before moving in and couldn’t do it myself. Don’s crew did ceilings, walls, doors, and trim in the whole house in just 4 days. He wasn’t the cheapest bid, but still very reasonable. And the work was top-quality! I plan on using them again in the Spring to do my exterior. Seriously, pick these guys!

Jay was great. I had another contractor cancel on me last minute. Made a quick call to Jay and lucky for me he was just in his office doing paperwork. He came right over to install the railing for me. He was quick, clean, very clear understanding of what I wanted. I highly recommend him. That house is now sold, and I will be using him in my new home soon.

Our retaining wall is awesome. They did such a great job and were able to adapt to our needs. I only have one complaint, he mentioned he would put all the backfill in after the wall was complete and he did not do that. I had to find a couple others to finish that. Overall though great end product.

Helio did wonderful work! Very professional, prompt, and experienced. We are so grateful for how quickly he was able to come help us (in between other projects) and how quickly he got the job done. He tackled a hard dry wall project for us that we struggled with on our own. We are so pleased and will definitely hire again in the future!

Jerry Puente installed a large bracket which pulls out from the wall and tilts for a 65 inch TV in my basement. It was his first bracket of this type he hung and did it carefully and professionally. It took 2.75 hours as he also hung my electrical strip and made sure the components and cable were working. He was on time and states he has other contractor / maintenance skills to offer which I plan to take advantage. His appearance was tidy and truck clean.

I used these guys to repair a large basement family room after water damage (some framing, insulation, drywall, texturing and painting of the entire room (walls and ceiling). They also painted a handrail and installed new baseboards. Taylor came out to provide an estimate on Thursday evening literally within a couple hours of our first phone conversation. We had a detailed written estimate on Friday morning broken down just as I had asked. They started the following Monday morning (on schedule) with a promise to complete by Friday. They actually finished a day early. Taylor provided pictures of the wall after framing and insulation was installed which I appreciated since I was not there to see it before the dry wall was installed. I am very pleased with event aspect of both our interaction and their work as well as their very reasonable pricing. Will use again.

Kore investments recently did a major remodel in my kitchen, removing a wall, moving electrical and plumbing, installing new cabinets, etc. They did excellent work and everyone that was in my home was extremely professional and conscientious. I would recommend them to anyone. Everything turned out beautifully and we love our new kitchen.

Todd was the best to work with. He took my conceptual design for a bar and provided mock ups so I could visualize what it would look like. The finished product turned out even better than the drawing. He stepped in where my past contractor took my money and never showed up for the job. He was able to complete the job very quickly and was great a communicating where he was at throughout the process. We already have a few more ideas for him so we will most definitely be using Todd again!

JB is a good guy that works as hard as he can. I gave JB a job that other painters were unsure if that time line could be reached. I gave him less then 5 days to start and complete a full house paint job (fix walls, prep room, paint, ect.) I am glad to say that with my timeline he did a good job and was in and out within the 5 days. The only reason I did not give him a 5 star is that I had to do some cleaning of my windows from over spray (I did rush him though, so not all his fault) and a few things like vents (1) and face plates (2) were not put back on. not that that was that big of a problem. I would like to think that given a different time line none of these would have been an issue and had I called him back to put them on he would have. all-in-all a good job, on time, and he has done what he said he was going to do and he was easy to work with. Thank you JB...

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
