We have met with Leanne twice and we absolutely love her. She is a dog whisperer. Our puppy, Poppy, is a small, timid Morkie and she went straight to Leanne without hesitation. Within one session Poppy is sitting, laying, staying, and heeling. We are working on shaking and crawling. Overall Poppy's behavior has improved dramatically. I would recommend Solomon's Dog Training to anyone with a dog!

Working with Tiffany was such a breeze. She was very proactive with arranging the initial date to meet me and my pup. The day of our first meeting we so informative and productive. She even saved my pup from another dog who escaped his yard, and gently led that dog back home and shut the gate behind him, ensuring the safety of both that dog and my own! I will highly recommend her training to any dog owner who needs specialized one-on-one training. I can't wait to watch my dog continue to grow throughout this training process. Thank you so much Tiffany😁🐶😁

Even though my issue was not a training issue, Mike took the time to visit with me and my dogs and gave me some advice on the problem I was having. He is caring with the dogs and they trusted him right away. I was very impressed with him and would recommend him to anyone who needs dog training, just by the way my dogs behaved around him.

I was amazed at what he did with my dog on the first session. My dog was barking and lunging at other dogs and in one session he fixed it! I had a bunch of other things that I needed to do to maintain that but I was really impressed! He is really good with the dogs and reading the messages they are sending. He’s a dog whisperer!

It look some time to actually get my appointment set up, but I am very excited for it! They charge a good price to come out to my house for an hour to train my puppy!

About

I dedicated complete to my dogs friends.

About

Thank you for taking a serious interest in getting your dog on the right track through training! I would love the opportunity to be able to work with you and your furry friend during this process. My name is Amy Francis, and I am a professional dog trainer/owner of Paws Forward Dog Training. My methods are based on positive reinforcement training, because simply put -- it works! This approach teaches and encourages your dogs to make good conscious decisions on their own so that you don't have to be a constant reminder for them in the future. This puts the responsibility and pride in the owner's lap because your behavior has a direct attachment to theirs! I offer a custom course which would fit the needs that you list perfectly. I come to your home and teach you hands-on skills for how to manage or change your dog's behavior. We also go in-depth on dog psychology and theory because I feel that it is absolutely crucial for all owners to understand their dogs both inside and out. My initial lesson is $200 which also includes free e-mails and phone calls for the life of the dog. All lessons after that are an hour long for $80/session. It is entirely up to you if you decide that you need more lessons or not. I want to make sure that I am a resource for all of the my clients -- even after I am gone! I train from Mondays to Fridays and am pretty flexible on the times depending on the week.

About

I'll walk, board, and watch your dogs with enthusiasm and with love. I love dogs. I am reliable. I am very flexible and affordable!

About

I am a service dog trainer. My specialty is consisting of services for mobility, autism, diabetic, seizure, blind guide and therapy. I also do potty train, behavioral training and correctional training. I use positive reinforcements with marker words or clicker. I can do grooming as well. My first visit is free to get to know you and to do a temperament test for your pup.

About

I have always had dogs in my life, until I started to travel for a living. Since I am on the road for part of the year, I am unable to have a pet of my own. I miss that part of my life. I will treat your dogs as if they are my own. The joy of seeing dogs run around and have fun far surpasses any other kind of entertainment.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

  • What type of training methods do you use?
  • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
  • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.
