I had my consultation visit with Gabriela and am excited to start the process. She put me at ease about hypno therapy and I am excited that Reike will also be included as I see many pluses to this as well.

Charlene provided full body massages for my wife and I in our home. She did a thorough, friendly and professional job. We are fairly new to massage therapy and she worked with us to understand our needs. Her touch worked stress out of several tight areas and she was sensitive to tender spots from injuries. We would recommend her for a soothing, relaxing therapeutic massage.

I am a 57 year old male. I have started this review several different times trying to find the words to express my extreme satisfaction with James. Prior to beginning he listened attentively to my explanation of concerns and assured me he could help aleviate some of my issues, some we agreed would need long term therapy. I have been receiving massage therapy for several years, but always from a female therapist. Although each did a good job, I always felt they were somehow holding back. I hesitantly decided to seek out a male therapist. James was very positive and confident and his attitude helped greatly to elevated my hesitation. When he finished I was very satisfied by the work he did, however the next day I was even more satisfied. I slept soundly that night and the next morning I woke so relaxed I just wanted to lie in bed and relish the relaxed state of my body and mind. I made an appointment to receive an adjustment with my chiropractor. He was impressed with how easily my adjustment went. Thank you for your self confidence and professionalism James, I will be coming back.

I have know Jeff Clark for many years. His family is from Brigham City and they are all great people. I have come to know Jeff better since he started doing his business "Refuge Therapy." He has always been very willing to accommodate to his clients needs and time frame of their schedule. I have also appreciated Jeff's kindness and his friendship. He is very professional in his performance of his job. He is a hard worker and very concerned to make sure the needs of his clients have been met. I appreciate his concern and his business like dress attire and the way he keeps his business very clean and very organized. I have recommended Jeff to many of my friends and several have gone to him and have been very happy. I would recommend him in anything he pursues to do. He is a very good honest person who takes care of his clients.

Bryce is completely professional, incredibly talented, gives perfect pressure, is friendly, and made my 60 minutes very relaxing. He also focused on a few spots that needed extra attention and he went above and beyond with those, he also added some pressure point therapy and stretching along with the relaxing massage. I have been getting massages once a week and I honestly have to say Bryce is one of the absolute best massages I've ever had. I can't wait to go back!

I have been massaged by Rashelle many times and it has always been a wonderful experience. She is very good at what she does and her hands have a grounding feel to them which I enjoy. Overall I always leave my sessions feeling very satisfied, and the atmosphere of her massage room makes it easy to relax which is nice. I highly recommend Rashelle and will definitely get more massage from her in the future.

Julie was very respectful and flexible! She worked with our schedule and did massages for me and 2 of my friends. It was a relax-full experience and much needed. The massage really helped me to feel less stressed about all of the things I have going on in life right now. I would definitely recommend her!

I have been searching for a good massage therapist since moving to SLC 3 years ago, and I had yet to find one that I felt was competent in his/her work and knowledgeable about athletes' bodies and sports-related injuries. I happened to stumble across Sarah's website last week, so I called for an appointment to schedule an hour-long massage. I explained to Sarah that I was a climber, and that I needed deep-tissue work to relax my extremely tight shoulders and upper-traps. Sarah was AWESOME!!! I could tell that she instinctively knew what muscles to work on and what areas of my back and shoulders were tight. She definitely gave good deep-tissue work, and the next couple of days after my massage, my body felt more loosened and relaxed, and I was actually able to climb stronger! I highly recommend Sarah to anyone. Not just athletes like myself, but anyone who wants a knowledgeable and well-trained massage therapist to do deep-tissue work or Swedish or Russian massage (just talk to Sarah about your needs - she'll know what type of work to do for you!) GO TO SARAH!! Best massage I've had in a long time! :)

My specialty is Thai massage, and I love it! It is like getting three treatments in one. Included in this massage is opening the energy channels in the body, the compression to release the tight muscles, and the stretching to open up the joints and release the bound up muscles. It is referred to as lazy man's yoga because of some of the postures we do in the session. Everything is facilitated by me, so you just relax and breathe. It is done fully clothed, and I use my feet, hands and knees to give the massage. I also have bars above my table that allow me to walk on hamstrings, stand on the gluts, or work on your back. Usually, after a session, you are so energized and full of energy and ready to tackle the day! I always say, "Thai Massage is where it is fun to be walked all over".

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

    • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
    • Nutritional medicine
    • Botanical medicine
    • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
    • Hygiene
    • Counseling
    • Minor surgery
    • Homeopathy
    • Acupuncture
    • Intravenous and injection therapy
    • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

    Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

    Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

    • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
      • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
    • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
      • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
      • Do I need a referral?
      • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
      • What will the co-pay be?
      • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
    • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.
