Introduction: My work stands out because I feel the most important factors in being a successful musician are a blend of proper technique and letting your personality shine through in your playing. Proper technique entails focused and deliberate practice and ensures that you don't do yourself any physical harm through learning bad habits. As such, we'll begin each class by warming up our muscles through stretches and addressing our technique through scales and other warm ups. Learning to let your personality shine through your playing is something best learned through improvisation and allowing yourself to be "in the moment." Whenever you play your instrument, consider your listener: are you more able to connect with her by playing a million notes a minute, or by letting your music flow through you from a place of truth? Music has taken my band, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, from coast to coast, from Vancouver to Calgary, from the tip of Maine to pueblos in southern Colorado. Once you commit to the simple principle of following your bliss, that thing that makes you truly happy, you'll find you never look back.
