Introduction: I help you bring your product ideas to life! I'm a creative & resourceful Product Design and Development Engineer adept at CAD modeling, prototyping, hands-on testing, design for manufacturing, and mass production. With a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, a Master's in Mechanical Engineering, and over 9 years of experience in designing, prototyping, and sourcing consumer products, I have the skills, creativity, experience, and passion required to take your product from idea to production! I specialize in mechanical designs (hard goods) such as gadgets, tools, appliances, games, electronics, jewelry, and other consumer products. I have extensive hands-on experience with 3D printing, DMLS, CNC machining, die casting, injection molding, anodizing, chemical etching, stamping, wire forming, PCBA manufacturing, and pad printing. I pride myself on providing detailed, efficient, and thorough work beyond expectations! Contact me to discuss your project and for a custom quote. _____ :: MY SERVICES :: (discounted rates for multiple selections) _____ 1. IDEATION - Leveraging my experience to help you refine your idea for novelty, practicality, manufacturability, and scalability. (This can include an analysis of your value proposition and/or business model if applicable) 2. CAD MODELING - 3D models of your product for each component and assembly with accurate dimensions, materials, and surface finishes. I use a parametric modeling approach to capture your design intent with critical features and to easily make changes as we progress through the project. 3. ANIMATIONS | RENDERS - CAD model animations and images to show functionality, aesthetics, and features of a design. 4. SIMULATIONS & ANALYSIS - Simulating loads, conditions, and environments on a design then using FEA to review its integrity. 5. PROTOTYPING - Using rapid prototyping methods to create physical samples of your product for testing form, fit, function, ergonomics, and aesthetics. (This is typically an iterative process) 6. TECHNICAL DRAWINGS - Engineering drawings with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) for components and exploded diagrams with BOM for assemblies. 7. PROVISIONAL PATENTS - Detailed documents that contain the necessary information to protect your concept/product/innovation and used as a reference when drafting claims in a utility patent application. 8. SUPPLIER SOURCING - Searching, vetting, negotiating, and working with various domestic and international component/product suppliers to build a robust supply chain for your product. 9. DFM (Design for Manufacturing) - Updating your 3D model considering the chosen mass production technique. (e.g., draft angles, ribs, parting line, assembly procedure) 10. ASSEMBLY DOCUMENTATION - Custom step-by-step instructions for your chosen manufacturer to assemble your product. 3D Modeling

When I initially reached out to Thumbtack for someone to do my CAD and 3D modeling I wasn't sure of what type of quality that I would find. After reading the reviews, I chose Solomon to complete the job for me and he surpassed my expectations. Solomon is a professional, he is knowledgeable, informative and knows what he is doing. Every step of the way he kept me updated on the project and we had Zoom meetings so that I could actually see the progress being made. He never made any changes or did anything without discussing it with me and obtaining my approval first. If I ever need another Product Design Engineer I will definitely use Solomon again! If you are considering using him, do it!

3D Modeling

I was immediately impressed with Solomon’s professionalism and organization. He setup a quick timeline to design CAD models and produce a prototype of my idea. His creative input as an engineer and a product designer improved my initial design as far as quality of functionality and marketability! I would happily refer him to other product developers and am looking forward to working with him again! Thanks Solomon!

3D Modeling

Working with Solomon through Thumbtack was an easy and gratifying experience. Solomon is knowledgeable and flexible. He was able to guide me through the process and answer questions that helped me make the best decisions for my project. I had a tight timeline for production and Solomon was able to create the CAD program and have my project produced in a timely manner. I plan on working with Solomon in the future as needed for any of my 3D printing projects. Highly highly recommend.

3D Modeling

I couldn’t be any happier having chosen to work with Solomon for a CAD model prototype. Not only is he exceptionally technically skilled, but his insight and feedback to the project was invaluable. The end product was refined beyond what we would have anticipated. Additionally, he has deep industry knowledge and can offer guidance beyond prototyping. Solomon is also very pleasant to work, has great interpersonal and communication skills with which makes the online meetings a breeze. Looking forward to working with him on all my subsequent projects.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I generally work on a fixed cost basis instead of hourly as this is the most beneficial route for clients. This way, you only pay for results and deliverables as described in our project outline; ensuring that your budget is used appropriately. Pricing depends on the scope of work, chosen services, design complexity, and required deliverables among other factors. I offer free consultations to discuss your needs and can provide a custom quote for your review. I typically require a 25% retainer for most projects and offer discounts if multiple services are selected. If there are rapid prototyping costs or other fees related to the development of your idea, you will be notified of these prior to accruing expenses. As I offer quality work, fast turn-around, and cost-effective solutions, you will not be disappointed in choosing me for your product design & development needs.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Each job usually begins with a Q & A session and a thorough discussion of the objectives so that I may clearly understand your needs. If available, this is also when I'd request you share any sketches, images, descriptions, technical drawings, or prototypes related to the task. I can provide/sign an NDA if you wish to have one complete. I will then create a project outline for your review covering the general process, milestones, deliverables, payments, and the estimated lead time. If all is agreeable and a retainer has been placed, I will begin work as scheduled. I only take on 1-3 jobs at a time depending on complexity so that I may give each client's project my full attention.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a background in engineering, training in 3D modeling software, hands-on experience with prototyping & manufacturing techniques, and am continuously working with international suppliers to further my consumer goods production knowledge. EDUCATION Bachelor of Science, Chemical Engineering Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University | 2006 - 2009 Master of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Johns Hopkins University | 2010 - 2012 CAD SOFTWARE TRAINING Autodesk Inventor Professional Solidworks
