Ashton Street was my first real studio experience. Morgan is owner and operator. The equipment and space were perfect for me. The set up is versatile so different needs can be accommodated. Drums, keyboards, enclosed room for vocals, multiple jacks, at all stations. Assorted microphones & stands. Equipment is up to date and top of the line. For a small studio Ashton packs a powerful punch. Morgan is accommodating and helpful during the sessions and is a wizard when it comes to the post mix. I was so pleased with my first result that I brought my daughter in to record her first song. Again great results and we had a great time doing it!Dec 23, 2015
I came to Morgan in February 2014 with the desire to learn guitar in order to surprise my Fiancee on our wedding day. This ... grew a little bit. 22 months later, we just finished recording 6 songs in his studio, linked here: http://embryduo.com/ ... Morgan's studio is exceptional, comparatively affordable, welcoming/warm, and run by an excellent fellow. His skills as a musician blend with his skills as a sound and recording man to create an exceptional outcome and overall experience. I'd recommend him to anyone (and, in fact, often do!).Dec 26, 2015
I have used Ashton Street Studio and Morgan Henry for both of my recording projects in the past two years - a CD and demo music clips from my web site. He did an excellent job and I got a great product on both. Morgan is easy to work with and very knowledgeable about recording and music. I definitely recommend!Dec 21, 2015
My vocal quartet had always wanted to do a Christmas album for our fans, but we'd never done a formal recording. We were so lucky to find Ashton Street and Morgan Henry. Morgan has had a lifetime of music and recording experience that made our time in the studio efficient and enjoyable. We got through fifteen songs in only 3-4 sessions. His ear is sensitive and his production was creative, especially given the limited possibilities with recordings of four voices and nothing more. He turned new versions around quickly and was extremely pleasant in going through our detailed feedback. Essentially, he was our mentor as we went through the album process for the first time. The price was extremely reasonable. Overall I was very satisfied and will use Ashton Street again for future projects. I recommend Ashton Street wholeheartedly!Dec 29, 2015
I recently recorded a Christmas CD at Ashton Street Studio. I came with an absolute deadline which was only 7 weeks from the original meeting with Morgan. From what I understand, that is unheard of. However, we were able to make it happen and the quality of the finished product far surpassed our expectations. Morgan was a constant professional, offering his expert advice but ultimately leaving the decisions to me. His talent and experience in the studio are evident from the start. Ashton st studios is a great place to go whether you just want to lay down some tracks or have a long term musical project. I highly recommend. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? As in most studios, the time you spend there is charged hourly, plus time spent by the studio working on the project when you're not there. We keep a running statement to show exactly what you're spending on a daily basis. After the first 8 hours or so, the hourly rate is usually discounted. Specific small jobs can be quoted separately.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? It helps to have a phone conversation about what's going to be recorded, what people are going to be involved, what instruments will be recorded, what the timeframe and budget are, etc. These details are ironed out via email and during the first sessions. Usually the first session for an individual involves getting set up and recording their instrument and then later dubbing the perfect vocal take (or both instrument and voice if necessary). For bands, usually we record rhythm tracks with a scratch vocal followed by dubbing in vocals and other instruments.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?During last year of college studied recording (1977), then got on-the-job training at Loft Studios as my first job. But staying educated is constant! I have two magazine subscriptions, I'm also online all the time reading the latest updates on technology and reading about recording project details. Attend day-conferences at times. Reading books and manuals. Talking to industry reps and other engineers...
