The contractor arrived at the time he mentioned, he immediately assessed what needed to be done, and he tackled the job right away. He had to secure several metal roofing pieces requiring him to get on top of the metal barn roof. He photographed the before and after.

The job went very well, Robert was clear about the timeline and the scope of work. I am very happy with the finished product. Robert and his crew hung and finished 30 sheets of drywall and painted a 14 ft ceiling. His crew showed every morning and worked the entire day until the job was complete. I would defiantly recommend Robert to friends and family.

We’ve had PCS complete numerous projects at our home including a new roof (including metal roofing), siding, gutters, a beautiful new custom rail system for the main stairway in addition to drywall/tile/lighting work due to a flood. Mark has always been courteous, professional and easy to work with as his company continually provided a quality product at a great value. We would highly recommend PCS for your next home project.

Very nice to work with. My home which is a huge three story is difficult to work on. I think franks is great with roofing, not so much with gutters. Hey, the gutters are on and work, that's better than what I had before. I think they need longer ladders and more of them. I will use them again.

Initial estimate appointment arrived late. His estimate was thousands, YES thousands less than the five we received which was more inline with the amount of work needed. Replacing fascia board and two damaged internal boards along with the coping, seal and flashing. We had to reschedule onset of repair to our portico by two days for medical reasons, no one showed up at the new scheduled time. No call or response to texts, then showed up four hours late without announcing his arrival and went straight to work. Quoted the job using sheet metal but installed PVC boards, which works for us; just not what was finalized. Finished in the amount of time he promised and the job looks great. Offers a 5 year warranty on his work. Cleaned up after themselves and put my personal items back as they found them. We will be able to determine the quality of the work after the first rain storm.

Mullins and Sons completed several jobs for me in my 160 year old house. They replaced my metal porch roof with EZ-Loc 24 gauge metal roofing material. They also installed floor jacks and scabs to shore up the joists in my basement. And they renovated my kitchen. I am extremely satisfied with their work. They were able to complete these jobs in a total of 8 days. The work is high quality, in spite of the challenges they faced. For example, the basement work had to be done in a very tight space and some fine-tuning had to be done with the kitchen cabinets. What impressed me the most was how responsive the contractors were to my interests and requests. Justin is great to work with - he communicated with me every step of the way. There was one small change I had initially requested in the kitchen that the subcontractors didn't know about and so it didn't get done. Justin would have sent someone back to do it, but I decided to let it go and Justin reduced my final bill accordingly.

We hired Brooks to power wash our home and to paint the metal roof above our bay window, and we couldn't be more pleased. His work is exceptional! He is easy to work with, professional, and efficient (and does high quality work)! We won't hesitate to contact him again for future projects.

We did our homework and got several quotes. Pricing worked out to be very close and we were able to choose the company we trusted the most. Noble stood out because of their top quality people and reputation from personal references, and we are very happy to have chosen them for our project. In our case, we had the 25+ year old roof replaced with new shingles and had a metal roof put on over the front porch. Only two sheets of plywood needed replacement, and the job was quick and efficient. Between the new shingles and the metal roof, the house looks almost new!

My project consisted of a new roof, new gutters and downspouts, as well as the installation of solar tubes and a cupola and light shaft. So a fairly extensive and specialized job. As with all large home improvement, it was not without its moments, but Cox was responsive and committed to completing the job to my satisfaction--which they did. Results are lovely. Very pleased.

Kraftwerks repaired our standing seam tin roof and rebuilt and restored the slate roof on our 1840s spring house. They did a great job! The work was done in a timely fashion and the site thoroughly cleaned up once the project was finished. We highly recommend Kraftwerks!

Willy does a great job and provides overall good quality and value in the work that he does. He has done many jobs for me, roofing, flooring, sheet rock work, etc.... since 2011, so it has been 7 years that he has been working for me. I always return to him since I have been very satisfied with the overall quality and value that he provides. He is very friendly and easy to work with, and he is in-tune with the exact detail of what the customer wants and needs, and responds well and delivers. He also provides expert guidance and suggestions on the "How to" in getting a job done. I would recommend him to anyone needing construction type work to include painting and repairs to fulfilling any type of building needs. I have primarily used him for residential/rental home jobs but I am most certain he can perform any construction type work, repairs, and painting services for commercial structures and buildings as well. Sincerely, Steve

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
