We moved into a two-bedroom house and our designer recommended EBRR as a general contractor for our major renovation projects. Luis, the project manager, came in, listened to all our needs and specificity notated our request. We had a complete estimate for everything within only a few days including cost and time frames. Barry and EBRR was able to accommodate with all architect's drawings, all subcontractors and permits. The work was done on time and within budget, even with the inevitable surprises that always come up during renovation. They were punctual, always respectful and very neat.

Very professional. Very nice. Organizing the pickup was extremely easy. After James and his partner had placed the oven in their truck, I asked for a quote on painting the interior of our house. They had no problem doing it, even though I had not previously mentioned this request. Would definitely use again!

Lhet is more than just an organizer - she is a powerhouse! She declutters, consolidates, and deep cleans meticulously as well as organizes everything herself so that it is easy to find any item you are looking for. She is also empathetic to the stress that this kind of work can cause for other people and is able to deftly manage the emotional side of decluttering. She initially reached out to me on Thumbtack to organize my parent's house and when the job ended up being more than met the eye (there was a massive mold problem that was not known going in), she rose to the challenge beyond anything imaginable. She helped me coordinate with the other people working on the house and worked tirelessly day and night to help us meet our organization goals. Lhet is now working with my dad on his apartment because she is so amazing at what she does. She has changed my parents' life and has been great about following up on the final details of the organization. Truly, she is the embodiment of "Lhet there be light!"

I was totally not familiar with decorating a house so I called Kerry. She came over and when I told her what I wanted she worked with me and showed me how things would look good in certain places and what colors went good together. She took my ideas and went to a lot of paint stores until she found something she thought I might like and she was right. She was very professional, easy to work with and great and was very reasonable with her pricing. I would recommend her to everyone I know. Thank you Kerry for everything.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Maylex for some time and she’s good company and habitual decorator (she enjoys decorating). If you are looking for elegance and affordability, then you have come to the right place. She’s very good about sticking with the vision that you have for your space without breaking the bank.

My husband and I bought our first house in early spring of 2017. We spent four years saving for a down payment, living in an aging, low-cost apartment complex with little frills. We had 30-year-old furnishings that relatives had gifted us back when we went off to college, so we were excited to toss the old furniture and start with a fresh slate for our new place. The home-buying process was stressful enough and when I began looking to decorate our new home, I quickly became overwhelmed. Here I'd never cared much about designing or decorating because I didn't own our place, so I'd never really spent time looking into home décor or fixtures. There were just so many options out there. We decided we needed some help, so we hired BB Designs and worked with Brook. She took the reigns and educated us on basics of design. She first set up a consultation to get to know us and our personalities. She did an amazing job pulling together curated selections for our living room, dining room, and kitchen. And, she nailed it! I loved everything she recommended. Having three well-selected options instead of surfing the internet through 300 options saved us time and quelled the stress. She also suggested staining our hardwood floors from a blond to a more modern coffee-type color and the are exquisite. We updated the railings and fire places, too, giving our home traditional mid-century home a more update urban chic look!

In March, I hired Collene of Exclusive Creations Design to decorate my office space and training center. I had a special event that I was hosting and had to have the work completed in just under 1 week. She used a few existing pieces that I already had and I gave her carte blanche for the rest. The outcome was phenomenal! I left her with a blank space and when I walked in to the finished product, I felt like I was on a decorating show! I constantly receive complements about the choice of colors and the furnishings. Several months later I enlisted her services again for another studio space and again- it turned out wonderfully. I highly recommend Collene. She does a fantastic job meeting your needs with your budget to create your dream space!

Angela is so talented and gave our house a much needed make over. She is great to work with. In our first meeting, I showed her some ideas and talked about my goals. When she came back with her recommendations, I was amazed - she totally "got" my aesthetic and just completely nailed it. Our home was transformed into a beautifully designed and functional family household. We just bought a new house and I am going to work with Angela again on a total design make over. She is fantastic!

Highly recommend Nalini. I needed to order furniture for my daughter's room. I told Nalini my budget and my specifications as i wanted something timeless, maintenance-free, sturdy, and comfortable. She came back with thoughtful suggestions, ideas, and options to choose from. I found exactly what I was looking for. Nalini arranged everything from order to delivery, and she even came to check on the items when it was being delivered to make sure everything was accounted for and to my satisfaction. Thanks Nalini, you were easy to work with, I will reco to all my friends!

Signature Design Interiors staged my home in One Loudoun and did an amazing job! They brought in furnishings, art, area rugs, linens, and accessories to highlight my home's best features. The turnaround time between requesting their help and the completed project was just a couple of days. I highly recommend the team at Signature Design Interiors for staging as well as decorating and remodeling. They are top notch!

Ashley was responsive to my request for staging. We set a meeting date and she arrived before time and gave good suggestions on additional small improvements I should do. She followed up with a call around the time I stated I would be interested in using her services. On the day of staging she was there promptly and my husband and I are VERY pleased with her services and pricing was reasonable. Her decorating skills gave the home a different flavor and I must admit it looks REALLY nice. I would definitely recommend her.

Hubert helped me with the project of turning my empty apartment into a cool, contemporary home that fit my style and gave me a real "home base" for the next phase of my life. Hubert literally managed the process from beginning to end. He walked the empty apartment with me before I even signed the lease in order to take measurements and start formulating ideas for his transformation. He came back to me over the next month or so with ideas ranging from paint colors to furniture and accessories. I very much appreciated his thoughtful approach. He knew I was a busy professional, so he would meet with me at my office, in the evenings, to review various selections with me. He sometimes presented me with options that I honestly would probably have never even considered. That's what I enjoyed the most - seeing new things from a fresh perspective that ultimately fit together beautifully. Hubert managed the entire process right down to coordinating (and being at the apartment when I couldn't be there) and taking delivery of the items. He went above and beyond the call of duty and the proof is in the final product (http://www.hgtv.com/living-rooms/cool-contemporary-bachelor-pad/index.html). Thanks Hubert. Do not hesitate to use me as a reference. You have my 100% endorsement.

I have to say that I used real plaster moldings throughout my house.when I went to my friend house I was pleased with crown molding and some design on her ceiling And that prompt me to look for the contrator (glamour touch home decor llc), despite my architect recommending wood and MDF. It was the best decision I made in whole project. The plaster is gorgeous-and it looks like nothing else.I 'll always be greatful for the job well done.

Collene was fantastic to work with. I was selling my condo on my own, and Collene took on this staging assignment at the very last minute. She spent a good amount of time with me initially talking through how the rooms would be set up and showed me pictures of other places she had staged. When we received feedback from a few potential buyers that the living space was awkward (which I knew from living there!), Collene made a few switches. She also made herself available to be at our open house. Collene was communicative and professional and so easy to work with.

My experience with Rayona was wonderful! She helped with with the blinds on my family room windows. She listened to and heard exactly what I was looking for, brought me the perfect samples (perfect for me because I get so overwhelmed and end of giving up) and I was able to choose one. She came along with her installer to supervise the installation and they look beautiful! Quick, easy and efficient!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

    • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
    • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
      • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
    • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
      • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
    • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
    • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
