I have taken Gentle Yoga with Asya at Sun & Moon for years. When I heard that she was offering a more personalized therapeutic class, I jumped at the chance to address my particular problems -- back issues, bad knee, Morton's neuroma in my toes -- all things that made some yoga poses very challenging for me. It was wonderful to have her focus on my issues, and she helped me develop a personal practice to work on these things. Her gentle and encouraging voice, strong knowledge of anatomy, and inventive teaching style made it pleasurable as well as useful.
Mark Goldfarb has been my trainer since 1999 and Ive probably been with him the longest of his clients. He is professional in our relationship but also a very caring person. He has researched ways to help train me when I have had an injury or surgery. He has much patience and a way of pushing me when Im not motivated. He is responsive when I have told him that I am unusually sore after a session, adjusting the weights accordingly, and usually spending more time on that muscle. I have sworn that I will never be able to do a certain thing he wants me to do and slowly but surely, I will get there. I like the fact that he uses lots of different approaches to training the same muscle group. It is not only a good way of doing it, but it keeps the workouts from getting boring. Besides the weight machines , he uses bands, bosu balls, straps, discs and a variety of other resources to train. Not only is he interested in building my strength, but increasing my flexibility and balance. In addition, he is a certified yoga instructor and includes many yoga positions in my workouts. This has definitely increased my flexibility. In short, I would highly recommend him as a personal trainer.
I used to hate Yoga, until I started taking class with Melissa. Her classes are a great workout, and you feel both relaxed and enthused afterwards. People have started telling me I look amazing, and the only difference is Melissa's yoga class. I can not recommend her enough.

I have taken both classes and workshops with her at Inner Power Yoga in Sterling, VA, and each time I walk away feeling so grateful to have met her and honored to be in her classes. Not only is she an expert on several different types of yoga (vinyasa, nidra, yin), but she is one of the most accessible people I have ever met. She makes all of her students feel comfortable, is willing to help in any way, and creates a safe and peaceful space to explore your yoga practice. After a confusing session in yoga nidra at another studio, I signed up for a workshop Gretchen was leading on nidra practice. Not only was the session amazing, but she also made the effort to meet me before the workshop to see if she could help me to better understand the practice and to dispel the confusion I had found with another teacher. Gretchen is simply one of the best, and I look forward to every single opportunity I have to take her classes. She is the real deal and an A+++
