My family had a recent HVAC service provided by Logan Mechanical. This was after the first company that our home warranty sent couldn’t do the work. From the moment that Logan Mechanical arrived and reviewed the situation we were given a full detailed review of the work needed. Logan Mechanical went above & beyond what we expected. Tristian was courteous, professional, and knew his the HVAC repair business exceptionally well. We highly recommend this talented company to all of our neighbors and friends.

Erick and his team are exceptional. I contracted Erick initially to do some minor house repairs. However, after not being satisfied with the work of contractor hired to paint, I asked Erick to do a lot more work to include painting, installation of kitchen appliance, replace flooring, miscellaneous carpentry, and electrical work. Erick was so responsive to my need to get the work done quickly as getting ready to list house. Quality of work is good, Erick knows his trade and made suggestions and recommendations that proved to be invaluable. His team are hard workers and take pride in what they do. And, the pricing is exceptional. Definitely recommend and will use again in the future.

My highest recommendation to Jon Drew! He replied immediately to my inquiry (on a Sunday afternoon!), and was on his way within the hour. He investigated the problem thoroughly, explained what was needed to repair my serious kitchen drain problem, and then did immaculate and highly effective work to correct it. He even checked the entire pipe system and gave me invaluable information regarding maintenance and future repairs. All this for a ***VERY REASONABLE SERVICE COST***. I am extremely happy with his work, and found him to be both highly professional and quite personable to deal with. He has earned a loyal customer in me, and I will not hesitate to call him for all my home plumbing needs in the future. 5 STARS!!

All projects went extremely well - we always contact Nick for all of our projects, around 10 over the last five years. These included rewiring our garage and basement interior, wiring external spotlights and lamps, electrical troubleshooting and repair. Nick is very professional, detailed, and is work is excellent. Also, he always figures out the best way to meet our objectives when we request him to tackle a new electrical project.

Ray was responsive, attentive, efficient and very thorough in explaining and trouble shooting the whole entire repair process of getting my furnace back up and running. When I woke up around 7:30am, my house temperature was 63 degrees and falling. I texted Ray and he responded immediately and was able to get to my home within 30 minutes. Ray explained to me my options of buying the parts to repair my furnace and also eventually getting a new updated furnace. He recommended specific brands to purchase in the near future. However, Ray was able to replace two furnace parts and saved me $2,200 for now. My furnace is 20 plus years old and eventually will be replaced. I will definitely have Ray install a new furnace around tax refund time. At any rate, when I got home from my night class my house was nice and cost at the normal 71 degrees. I am so thankful that I found Ray on thumbtack.com and would recommend him to family and friends! Thank you so much and God bless you Ray!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes refrigerators?

Typically, appliance repair technicians who offer refrigeration repair also work with washers, dryers, dishwashers and other household appliances. While there is no formal training required to be an appliance repair technician, consider certification requirements, as the technician should know how to safely work with refrigerants (the chemical that keeps your fridge cold) and substitute refrigerants such as HFCs. You should also read reviews to get a sense of the pro’s experience and reputation. The appliance repair pro will come to your home, bringing all the necessary tools for diagnosis. They may need to order parts to complete the job, but all the work will take place in your home. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
