Cesar and his team were wonderful. Extremely responsive and know how to get the job done. He is always ready to call and willing to do anything to get the job done right. True professionals. I look forward to hiring him and his team in the future. His painters especially were great. They were all extremely nice and they are extremely professional. Very happy with our choice. It was great to move into such a nicely painted house.

We had David come by to repair a pair of holes in our ceiling where there had been water leaks. He was polite and professional, and the work looks very nice. A couple of minor points: a bit of the white ceiling paint got on the yellow-painted wall when it was applied, so we'll have to do some minor touch-up work to it - painter's tape would have prevented this. Clean-up was good but could have been better, as we had to wipe off some stray spackle drips on the wall here and there. Overall though, we're satisfied with the work and the especially the value for our money. Recommended.

This is first time I was looking for a painter and spoke to around 10 painters and found Jeff .He did a neat job on my whole single family home ,reasonable price or I should say the best price and a decent person to deal with.He knows his job and we don't have to call him or remind him about the timeline.

Nery painted two garage doors, a column which had blistered paint due to weather, an inside bedroom ceiling with water damage, recaulked and painted a window, and caulked and painted a new door and molding. He always called to see what times would be appropriate to my schedule, called my while on the way, and showed up on time. The painting was superb. Frequently painters simply scratch/sand away old paint and repaint, leaving a small impression where flaking paint had been scrapped away. Nery scraped/sanded away any peeling paint, spackled any areas where old paint was scrapped off, and then painted. The garage doors and the column (which would have had large areas where it would have been noticeable if it weren’t spackled before painting) now look brand new, as do the indoor areas he worked on. I would recommend Nery for any indoor or outdoor painting needs.

The team of two showed up on time, laid drop cloth, spackled and painted every blemish on the walls. They did way more than I was expecting. The job was done in 2 days because they took their time and were careful. The house looks beautiful! They are the most professional and neat painters I've ever hired! Hire Jeff Bogart's team and you won't be disappointed!!

Wow, I can't say enough great things about working with Abi. We had him paint our basement for us. Right before he was supposed to come paint, we found a mold issue in a wall that we needed to have remediated - this left a large hole in our wall. Abi was able to do the drywall repair for us, and he did a fantastic job - you can't even tell it was there. He consulted with me on the type of paint that would be best for my space with some unusual conditions that I had, gave me accurate quantities to purchase, and then showed up and finished the entire job in two days. I have a construction background and manage about 20 rental units in another state, and of all the painters I've worked with, Abi was certainly one of the most professional, high quality, and excellent value companies. I will not hesitate to work with him again - definitely my go to painter here in Baltimore!

David did an excellent job painting the inside of my home! It's not easy to find trustworthy contractors in Potomac, most try to scam you into something you don't need or charge a ridiculous price because of the area. However, with David, my husband and I could tell immediately that he truly cares about the service his business is providing, and wants you to be happy. He was very quick to respond to my call, gave me a great price, and made sure that I was happy with everything before he left. He was also clean! Very skilled painter.

CertaPro was very good to excellent after the 1st day. The first day, I had power washing. They did a good job with power washing, in some places too good a job. The washed the finish off of the aluminum siding. So on the main house it looked really dingy. The siding was power washed about 5 years earlier. It actually looked worse then before it was washed. I was only planning to painting the wood trim and surfaces of the house. Unfortunately, I now had to paint the siding of the main house. Extra dollars, I really didn’t want to spend. I think the problem was that the first crew I had, left one guy on site while the others went to another job. No supervision. Poor guy didn’t even have lunch, I called up a local delivery place for him so he could have lunch. He didn’t have a car. The 2nd through 4th days, they changed crews on me. Darwin was great. He kept me informed along the way and showed me some true trouble areas. First two paint days was on the wood surfaces. He did a great job. The last day was the painting of the siding. This also looks great. I have almost a new house on the outside it looks that good. If I had Darwin’s crew all 4 days they would have gotten all 5 stars. Since they caused me a little angst the first day, I had to give them 4 stars. The pricing was reasonable and they were willing to give me a written estimate. The work was done timely and everyone was very communicative. They did not leave anything to chance. Maidelys was very responsive and called me throughout the job. CertaPro sent someone out the 2nd day to look at the results of the power washing. Gave me a reasonable quote on the spot. Pricing was about mid range of the quotes I received. I was worried about working with a nationwide company but fears were relieved after I saw their quality of work. Well worth it.

Working with Five Star Painting was a fantastic experience. From start to finish, my expectations were exceeded. Everyone at the company I interacted with was kind, professional, and a pleasure to work with. Painters showed up on time (huge points there!) and I was very impressed with how quickly and efficiently they were able to complete the work. Not to mention, the quality is fantastic, I'm very impressed! Superior attention to detail and I would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a painter. THANK YOU!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
