I had an office in my basement that I decided to rip out the carpet in and install wood-like porcelain tiles. Leo and his assistant worked diligently for two days to transform my room. They installed the tiles in a herringbone design and they a phenomenal job with it. He then removed my 3 inch baseboards and installed & painted 6 inch baseboards. And painted the walls. I am beyond happy with the results and will DEFINITELY use LD Home Improvement on my next project.
John did most of our kitchen remodeling work for us. This was the first time we have done a project like this so we were sort of feeling our way. I would hire John again, though his helper, Jamie, was not as good. I think the qulity of work was generally good, but I wasn't there to watch most of it. Some smaller details looked like they could have been handled better, such as flatness/evenness of the floor, placement of electrical boxes, some of the edges where the new floor met the old floor or HVAC vents. John was always happy to change something for us, but of course it would cost more to make the change. When they initially installed the cabinets one section was about 3/4 of an inch misalligned with the existing wall. Apparently they didn't see anything wrong with that and went ahead and installed the cabinets. When I saw the result I thought we needed to fix it, which John did, but he charged us another $225 to do it. There are probably always unforeseen circumstances that arrise during construction, especially in remodeling, and sometimes John would figure out a good solution (one that we liked), but other times it would be not such a good solution and we might have wanted it done differently. So more communication at those times would have been nice. Overall we are pleased with the results. The new kitchen looks pretty good, though we're still only about 95% completed. We are still waiting for a few ordered items to arrive and John will be back to finish things off. John was good at telling us when he would be there and when he wouldn't. The project has gone on a little longer than we had hoped, about 8 weeks, but things kept on schedule pretty well and there were a few unexpected extras like replacing part of the ceiling and removing multiple old floors. It was pretty easy to work with John and he seems trustworthy. I think we are a bit overbudget, but we did add in some extra painting to the job. Knowing what I now know, I think the project would go more smoothly if we had to do it again. I think John also learned some things during this project. For example, I don't hink he had installed hardwood flooring before. I bet he would also be better at that if he had to do it again. John gets things done, but sometimes he should think ahead a few more steps and try to figure out if he's doing things the best way.
Great job and I can't believe how soon they were able to get it done! Great job cleaning and staining our very neglected deck, ripping out a ton of nasty shrubs, and building stone garden walls in the front. It all looks great, the team was all so easy to work with, and we will definitely use them again!
We hired J&A Painting Inc. for a major paint-job in our new home, they caulked and repainted all interior ceilings, trims, doors, closets, and walls as well as the garage. They also power washed all the windows and stained the deck. We were on a very tight schedule but they made it all happen! They were very professional and accommodating specially since we had lots of contractors coming in and out at different times. We couldn't have found better service, father and son were extremely easy to work with, we had a great time with them around. Their services were very reasonably priced, and they supplied paint/materials. We would recommend J&A in a blink! Thank you for making it feel like home!
Gary and his team did a great job on my condo in Charlottesville. He was very responsive and prompt. They did the ceilings, trim and walls. The price was good and he also left the remaining paint for touch-ups. He advised on paint selection taking into consideration my budget. Would recommend and would also hire again.
Solid work considering the diversity of handyman projects (install range hood on old plaster/brick wall, Remove a 100 yr. old interior plaster wall, etc...).
Penn Butler is such a conscientious craftsman that he will never do a quick and dirty or cheap job, so dont ask him to. He has done interior repair and exterior siding and deck work in my community for almost a dozen satisfied customers, and helped me after a tiny leak in my study wall turned into a waterfall. His diagnosis of the problem was right on (skylights slowly dripping down the roof trusses); His sheetrock, plastering and painting were all perfect. He knows materials extremely well, and will suggest innovative solutions and materials to household problems that will last, long-range. He will never be the cheapest construction guy you hire, nor the fastest one, because he is meticulous, but he will do the best job and advise you, all the way through, about whats going on and what the best solutions are.
Justin did a great job fixing a hole in my basement wall! He offered a fair price for the work, showed up on time and made excellent repairs to the wall! Then he painted with the paint I provided to finish everything up! I would definitely hire Justin again for other handyman work! Thanks Justin!
This is the epitome of a good small/local company. Curtis Home Improvements played a difficult role in our multi-faceted home renovation. We hired them to convert a large window to a set of french doors, build a large custom deck, abandon several electric base plate heaters, have granite counter tops installed in our kitchen, install a tile back splash in our kitchen, custom cut our cabinets and installed a wall mounted microwave, installed a dishwasher, and a sink disposal. They did all this while seamlessly allowing other contractors to come in install a new heat pump, pull up carpets and put hardwoods in one room, refinish hardwoods everywhere else, and my family to remove wall paper and paint throughout the house while I built a fence. In the process, we added on a few change orders: removing, repairing and placing new tile for a bathroom floor where we found some wet rot, skim coating areas on the drywall that were messed up from previous renovations or from removing wall paper. They performed this additional work without missing a beat, and at a fair cost. Everything looks great.
I hired Josh to do simple repair, later decided to do the entire shower. He did a good job putting new tiles for shower floor and wall tiles.
We hired Eddie for the interior painting for the three story townhouse recently. His quote was very reasonable and he did an excellent job. It is completed in a timely manner too. It is nice and easy to work with him. We are very satisfied with his work. We have more projects coming up and we will definitely hire him again. Thanks Eddie.
Marcelo and his team at Zeus Building and Renovations cut a new, large doorway into a load-bearing wall, replaced the crown moulding in my living room and dining room, and painted my living room, dining room, and kitchen. They worked long days to finish the whole job in 6 days--ahead of schedule. Marcelo has an eye for detail, and the finish product looks great. For example, he salvaged the baseboard he removed to wrap it around the base of the new door frame; he custom-built and stained a wide wood transition strip for the the floor of the new doorway; and the moulding corners are meticulous. Friends who hadn't seen the house before thought the doorway was original. The painting is well done with very crisp lines and clean trim, and Marcelo patched a lot of lines and bumps in the walls so that an old house now looks smooth and new. He cleaned up all the drywall dust so that the house was clean when he left. Marcelo's communication was great, and he sent photo updates of his progress while I was away. His price was fair, and I would hire him again.
PAST EXPERIENCE: (Mid-1990’s) Packed up a van of construction tools and drove down to Jacksonville, Florida to dry-in an addition to our home. (Yes, combine some pleasure time in sunny Florida). With the foundation in place and rafters delivered, you were able to get the exterior walls and rafters up, under roof, and interior walls studded. From there, we completed the rest, though we did contract out the electrical and sheetrock mudding. All our project pictures were lost in our move to south Florida, however, I was able to find one picture of the house some 15 years later. The original front of the house was just the garage and one window. The addition added the second window and two more behind, which is not visible. But, what you can get from this picture is “you cannot tell there is an addition done to the house!” RECENT EXPERIENCE (March 2016): We want to thank you for the awesome crown mold job you recently completed in our home! As homeowner who likes to do projects, we knew the angles and corners (to include some rounded corners) was just too much for us. Combine that with textured walls and ceilings, we thought that may create a challenge, but your expertise flowed without pause! The finished product is seamless! And again, we were fortunate that you were able to combine some pleasure time in sunny Florida and also allow time to for this job. It has made a huge esthetic difference and truly appreciate your professionalism throughout this process. We cannot thank you enough for such an outstanding job!! (Sorry I was not able to attach a couple of photos....bummer)
We were put in touch through Thumtack with Abracadabra Services to do a small masonry repair on our interior fireplace hearth. I was contacted immediately and they came out to do the estimate. The work was completed a couple of days later and the workman did a great job. He was very professional. I was impressed at how fast the work was completed. Thank you!
Dawn installed a new Kitchen Faucet and did a remarkable job. It took a little longer than anticipated because of a rusted bolt, however, she stuck with it, removed the old one and installed the new one. Great job. We will definitely hire her again.
I caught my kitchen on fire over the winter and needed a massive hole in the floor fixed and tiled, as well as the exterior and interior walls, siding, insulation, and boards replaced. They were able to fix all of it within a week and did an immaculate job. Outstanding work, highly recommended by me.
I hired Shane to remove 2 load bearing walls and replace them with headers, as well as to frame up and install two french doors. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Shane and his work. He is extremely responsive to the desires of his clients and cares more about giving them exactly what they want than most contractors. He is knowledgeable, timely, and prompt. He offers solutions that are extremely budget friendly, but still well-constructed. I know I probably sound like a shill or something but I seriously can't say enough good things about him. I've hired a lot of contractors, but Shane is now my go-to guy. A+
