FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For many matters, I try to offer a flat fee structure, as I’ve found that clients often appreciate the certainty of knowing the full price before hiring an attorney. However, some areas (such as some types of contested cases) are better suited to hourly billing. Regardless of the billing method, I try to get a sense of the client’s means and craft a payment plan around them.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to have a consultation with the client (preferably in-office, though I also provide phone consultations). This allows me to get a sense of the client’s legal problems and needs. Prior to being retained, I have the client execute a representation agreement so that the client has a clear understanding of which services will be provided and the prices for each.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry (with minors in biology, chemistry, and history), cum laude, from Virginia Tech in 2000. In 2003, I graduated from West Virginia University College of Law with my Juris Doctor degree. After moving to Hampton Roads in 2003, I became a member of the Virginia State Bar in 2005. I think my background has greatly helped me in practice, with a mix of the analytical (from my science degree) and the more liberal arts.
