I'll start by saying that Kay and her workers are very friendly, and I greatly enjoyed having them in my home. However, I was torn between leaving them 3 or 4 stars, so let me explain why I left 4. In terms of what they cleaned, they did a great job. They had attention to detail, which I appreciated, considering I was moving into a new home and wanted it clean. The reason I was going to leave only 3 stars is because after they left, I found a lot of areas that they didn't even do. They completely forgot to open multiple cabinets and even the bottom stove drawer. I had to ask them to clean the tops of the door frames, as they hadn't even dusted them either. So, why did I leave 4 stars? Because the stuff they cleaned look great. If I caught something and asked them to clean it, they did it, no questions asked. They are not trying to cut corners, but when deep cleaning a house there are A LOT of things to do and I think they just get mixed up with what they've done. So, because I didn't go around and check EVERYTHING, I will take partially the blame. So, take it from me, you won't be disappointed if you hire Kay, you just need to make sure you are diligent in your walkthrough afterwards. I did notify Kay of my my disappointment, and she responded saying that she would come back. Unfortunately, we had already started moving in and I just cleaned it myself. I asked about a discount on a future cleaning instead, but she never responded. I don't think you will be disappointed with Kay as long as you take your time to check everything was done to your satisfaction.

MY HOUSE LOOKS GREAT! It was a disaster before Kiana came over. I gave her very brief instructions before jetting out the door to run some quick errands. When I came home, Kiana and her helper were hard at work making the place look and smell clean and disinfected. I am 40 weeks pregnant and needed a thorough cleaning to prepare to bring a new baby home. I was concerned about the hard to reach places that had gotten so dusty. I have lived in my house since February and had never had it cleaned professionally. I will be calling Kiana as often as I can. She was kind, brought all of her own supplies, did a great job and was really affordable. I couldn't find one bad thing to say!

I called Ray for a refrigerator repair. He kept me posted on his arrival, was thorough in his assessment, clean, professional & completed his work in a timely fashion. His rates are very reasonable. I have since called him back to do other repairs and when I have requested things outside of his scope, he was honest enough to refer me elsewhere. I have shared his name and recommended him to my neighbors through the Next Door App.

Dave went above and beyond with building my custom gate to my privacy fence. He was descriptive with what the project would entail and was honest about recommending what we truly needed vs what he could sell us on. His attention to detail and workmanship were spot on. His prices are affordable and we were extremely pleased with the end results. From my request for a quote to the completion of the job was one week. The other company I contacted hasn't even called me back to come look at job. Daves timeline was awesome! Would recommend him and use him again.

I hired Mr Todd to paint a single story house to include trim, gutters, downspouts, three doors, garage door and shutters. He also had to replace several areas of rotten wood. We are very pleased with his work. No drips on the siding or driveway. Coverage was excellent and the wood replacement looks good. He is reasonably priced and pleasent to work with. We've asked him to give us an estimate on another house we have. Highly recommend him.

I have worked with Mark Barrett, owner of Top Notch General Contracting for almost 10 years. He has basically redone my entire home...from exterior doors and windows, gutting and remodeling baths, removing a fireplace and reworking the roof, and much more! He has gutted and installed a brand new kitchen at my Mom's home and completed work at many of my real estate client's homes. Top Notch contractors are particularly excellent carpenters and drywall installers, but they can do any job you need. Mark is timely and does what he says he is going to do. If a subcontractor does not do a job right, Mark will redo it himself until you are satisfied. I will not work with anyone but Top Notch!

The BRC team were an exemplary crew that provided an excellent experience with multiple projects. Being first time home owners they were patient, knowledgeable, and most of all experienced in all completed projects. I highly recommend with an assortment of projects but more specifically what I had completed which were installation of two doors. One was a straight forward craftsman style front door installation and the second being a sliding glass door with an accompanying screen door. Both door installations involved correcting the past owner's errors which BRC had no issue with and even improved upon. Cannot be more pleased. The second project was much more involved and that was the custom build of an approximately 200 sq. ft outdoor deck. The responsiveness to my requests, questions, comments, etc. prior to an agreement was excellent and accommodating. The BRC crew made sure I was satisfied with the design/plans and once an agreement was made they took off with the project. They handled all the permit paperwork (which was a difficult task in itself) but I was never bothered with this. The build went smoothly and when faced with barriers they were able to creatively work around and create alternatives. Big points too for the style and custom look of the deck. It stands out in a good way and the space they were able to create for the less than planned approved build area is an impressive feat in itself. I highly recommend BRC for all projects and they are sure to be my first call if another project comes around in the future. Huge thanks to the entire crew!

We are currently trying to sell our house in Newport News & live in Richmond. Ruth & her team have been so helpful keeping our house show ready with mowing it. It's been a great relief that mowing the grass is one thing less we need to keep on top of.

Great price for garage door openers. After they had finished the work and headed home I had to call and have them make an adjustment. They came back after a very long day without a complaint. We will use them Again.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
