I have worked with many "handymen", contractors, builders in Richmond and Tony Tan, by far, has been the most responsive and skilled of all of them. I completely recommend him and will definitely use his services again. He made a multitude of repairs on a rental property to get ready for a new tenant as well as a property going to sale in just a few days.

I had water damage to subflooring from door leaks. We needed the entire subfloor in the laundry room and a piece about 8' x 24" in our Family Room replaced, with Durock in the laundry so I could lay tile later. The laundry room had linoleum but the family room has 3/4" hardwood. I had enough leftover wood to replace what had to be torn out to get to the subfloor, so the crew did that as well. I was impressed by the quality of the work and the pride in workmanship. They determined the cause of the water leaks after removing the door casement in the laundry room which revealed that the wood under the door threshold was completely saturated with water and had been finding an outlet into the subfloor because it had not been properly wrapped with waterproofing material during construction. Although there was plastic wrapping under the wood, it only covered about 1/2 of the side exposed to the exterior of the house siding, which allowed water leaking in from the top to run down between the plastic and the wood- effectively trapping it there every time it rained. The crew fixed that by wrapping the new wood they put down correctly. There were a number of things like the above that occurred as the dug into the damage that had been done, but I feel confident that they removed everything that had been exposed to moisture and replaced it, but stuck to their quoted estimate for the job. Don't know if we should name our crew online, but ours deserves to be singled out. They worked until 9PM the first night and were back the next day to complete the job by the end of the afternoon. We'll certainly use them again the next time we need a help with a project. Jericho Croft Farm

2000SF roof replacement on 40 year old roof low sloped easy walk on roof. Carlos and crew of 6 did great execution job once on job. He made sure to provide all items he promised and provided extras beyond agree proposal. Winter caused a number of delays and understanding pro and cons before start was harder to pin down after good detailed initial proposal. Communication was a little shaky at times with all weather delays. Carlos will do a great roof job for you. Job is only week old and carlos insured if any issues for 3 years he will remedy. 25year plus Roofing warranties from GAF appears like really dont exist with out following all kinds of GAF protocols.

He came second day to fix some drywall issue as well. Reasonable price and he offers warranty on his work if in case any issues. The same job was quoted by other contractors 3 times more than what I paid him. I am considering hiring for some more work I am planning and waiting on his experience informatiom from him.

Keith did a great job on our fence and all the gates. We could not have asked for a better more honest down to earth contractor, who actually knows what he is doing, and takes pride in the job. His assistant "Skeeter" went above and beyond the job, by cleaning up and raking out other contractors messes while he wasn't busy. This is a team well worth hiring for your next job, I will definitely use Foster Construction again, and recommend them to all my friends.

Julio is a consummate professional and handled my rather unorthodox hard scale request with skill and a quick understanding for what was needed. Definitely would recommend him to anyone looking for driveway, sidewalk, patio, concrete, or other hardscape work.

Hired Greg to do some roof repair. He arrived when he said he would which is great, his price was very fair and he was able to knock out the job immediately which was a bonus before it started raining. He pointed out why I had a problem with shingles blowing off in storms on a particular section of roof. But he did not try to sell me an entire roof which I appreciate because two roofing companies tried to push that on me. Overall no problems, prompt, fast and got it done. Will be keeping him on my list of go-to folks for Home repair work.

This is the epitome of a good small/local company. Curtis Home Improvements played a difficult role in our multi-faceted home renovation. We hired them to convert a large window to a set of french doors, build a large custom deck, abandon several electric base plate heaters, have granite counter tops installed in our kitchen, install a tile back splash in our kitchen, custom cut our cabinets and installed a wall mounted microwave, installed a dishwasher, and a sink disposal. They did all this while seamlessly allowing other contractors to come in install a new heat pump, pull up carpets and put hardwoods in one room, refinish hardwoods everywhere else, and my family to remove wall paper and paint throughout the house while I built a fence. In the process, we added on a few change orders: removing, repairing and placing new tile for a bathroom floor where we found some wet rot, skim coating areas on the drywall that were messed up from previous renovations or from removing wall paper. They performed this additional work without missing a beat, and at a fair cost. Everything looks great.

We had an out-building with a leaking roof. We decided to have the old shingles removed and get new ones put up when repairs were done. A-Plus came out and inspected the attic space to assess the damage. They submitted a detailed proposal with a very fair price. They said they could get to it in about 2 weeks and, even though we had a lot of rain those 2 weeks, they were able to meet the schedule. The roof is beautiful! We had a relatively small project but they treated it the same as a large one. I'll definitely go straight to them next time I need a roofing contractor.

My renovation was a huge undertaking to say the least. Renovating a home that was built in 1947 and added onto in 1955 and 1970 that was unique for building structures (cinderblock walls and concrete slab foundation). The prices were fair and the contractors that worked on our forever home understood what was at stake with the construction and additional 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom. I am glad I chose them to help complete out dreams with our new house.

I have known Mr. Taylor for over 30 years and after the death of my husband 15 years ago, I contacted him on several occasions for different task around my home. He has painted the inside and outside of my home, replaced storm doors, fixed plumbing problems, clean my carpets, clean my windows inside and out, removed discarded furniture and other household items. Also did roof repair, cut down limbs from overgrown trees, taken care of my lawn work. When my daughter was moving he assisted her in moving her furniture to her new apartment. As a general contractor he has done a lot of home repairs for me. He makes sure that the work is done correct and to your satisfaction. His prices are also reasonable. He is also very reliable. I have referred him to other friends and family.

jack has completed a couple of jobs for me. the first job was he replaced the exterior doors and storm doors. the second was he took down my old steps(made of brick and concrete) and replaced with a 12 x 12 deck, with handrails and and new steps. and most recently he replaced my roof. in all the jobs he has done for me he has been very professional, and helpful to meet my needs. Very reasonable with cost as I compared three other companies that was local and higher in cost. I have recommened him to other family members and they also are satisfied with all work completed. Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

          • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
            • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

          • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
            • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
          • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
            • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
          • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
            • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
          • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
            • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
          • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
            • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
          • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
            • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
