All expectations were met - on time arrival, estimation of time for move, nothing damaged, and billed at agreed rates. The only issue was with the payment receipt. We paid with a company credit card and the movers did not have the equipment to take the payment so we couldn't get a printed receipt. They did give us a hand written receipt. We would definitely use this company again and refer others to them.

I contacted Nova Movers to move a small amount of furniture from an apartment to a condo. Amine quoted me a reasonable price and when all was said and done the quote was spot on (quoted 3 hours, crew took 3 hours exactly). The movers themselves, Jairo and Federico were punctual and professional and were careful with my belongings. They also were able to disassemble and reassemble my bed frame in no time. That alone was worth every penny! I wouldn't hesitate to use Nova Movers again in the future. :)

Move was smooth, but long day. The 3 guys were great and very courteous. They worked very hard, didn't scratch or break anything . They showed up on time, worked all day, brought lots of extra packing materials, which I didn't need much, except clothes hanger boxes. Pretty much everything was ready to go,all boxes had been packed, they just wrapped and protected furniture to load on the truck. Place everything in the new house in the correct rooms, unwrapped the furniture. For a small to medium size moving company, price was good and competitive. Last local move I used a much larger company paid more and had 4 men verses 3 men and NYP Movers did a much better job than the larger moving company. Not any damage to any items of mine nor the houses I moved from and into. Would use them again when I will need to move again in the next couple of years.

Excellent movers! The movers showed up right on time and were very pleasant and professional. They were incredibly careful, yet fast, when packing up all of our items. They asked us exactly where each piece of furniture or box should go in our new apartment, and even helped us set up the bed frame. These guys are professionals at what they do. We were so pleased with our move!

Smart Moving helped us move some large and heavy equipment from Alexandria to D.C. They did a great job for a very reasonable price. They showed up on time, brought enough staff and tools and were very careful when moving the equipment. Items arrived in great condition, no dents or scratches. I highly recommend Smart Moving for your moving needs.

A-1 Movers are the best movers I have ever used. They arrived earlier than expected, went right to work, protected my furniture beautifully, including my priceless grandfather clock. They moved me under the most horrendous circumstance; we arrived at my new place and the tenants were not finished moving out as promised. We had to leave and come back 1 1/2 hrs. later when we could start moving in. The garage was filled from ceiling to floor with the tenants belongings and so the movers had to use stairs up to the front door. They did it without complaining as well as comforting me as I was crying hysterically over the horrendous circumstances. We had to sweep each room before putting in furniture and they helped me with that. I am happy with the price of the move; Darrell and his crew were efficient and helpful as they moved in my furniture; and not only that, Darrell and his crew understood what terrible circumstances I was facing as I was moving in and were understanding. They were professional and efficient. Quentin P. who did my move estimate was professional, respectful and was very insightful about the difficulties and stress of moving. I will not hesitate to use A-1 Movers again and I am recommending them to family and friends if they ever have a need to move. One more thing: once I had decided to engage them as my movers, within 24 hrs. they dropped off 4 sizes of boxes (including extra heavy dish barrels), wrapping paper, and tape, more than enough for a 2300sq. ft. townhouse free of charge. Never had to buy a single box or tape.

My wife and I were recently moved by Great Nation Moving and Storage and it was a great experience. They were professional, efficient, and polite. Not a single thing was damaged during the move and I have some very heavy equipment in my shop that I was concerned about. No problem for these guys. They had it all safely moved and put in place at the new house without any issues. I highly recommend this company for your move.

After having a very stress free and accurate move, I decided to write this comment. I hired Skyride Moving to move my house a week ago. The movers arrived on time with the packing materials. Movers did not waste a minute. They immediately started packing and loading my furniture. They packed everything with great care, carefully moved my sofa, shelves, bed. In the end they completed the move well within the estimated timeline and stored everything perfectly at the new place. It was a spotless performance at a very good price. I would like to thank them for being so efficient, friendly and polite.

This was the absolute best moving experience we've had and we have moved over 10 times! Terrance and Keith were so fast, gentle with our furniture and boxes, and good at taking direction of where to put things. Terrance's communication was perfect from calling to chat about the job and calling on his way over. I wouldn't look any further for movers because Pro Movers are the one! Thanks guys!

I recommend NK Movers, after being cancelled on by another one here on Thumbtack, they showed me professionalism by sending me a contract and calling me every step of the way. We both had some issues with timing but we were able to work together and keep each other informed. In light of my building manager being irresponsible and insensitive, they kept their cool, and helped me remain stress-free, i feel that they cared about making this move as great as possible. Will definitely recommend!

We used Relocation Solutions, Inc. for our office move, and they were absolutely amazing! From the first site visit to working around problems leading up to the move, to dealing with people, and to mastering difficult situations (like blocked loading ramps) - Greg and his team provided stellar service! Estimates were spot-on, planning and communications were superb, and the team's invaluable can-do attitude turned this move into a great experience (and who can say that about a move!?). The moving crew was experienced, professional, courteous, careful, efficient, and FAST. Relocation Solutions left everybody impressed, including our landlord. We are very happy to have chosen Relocation Solutions. Even if you can find cheaper movers: a good mover makes all the difference- and that is what you get with Greg. Five stars for Relocation Solutions.

Like most people when it gets to be the end of a move-out month, things get stressful and worries mount about being able to get "all that furniture" moved in time. I was under such stress for the past two weeks...UNTIL TODAY when Po's Moving pulled up. It was not just a godd experience, it was phenomenal! I was simply aamzed at how safely, securely, and most importantly QUICKLY they emptied out my seemingly insurmountable amount of apartment furnishings and transproted them to their destination. Seriously, I don't rave about service these days as usually there's nothing to rave about. Po and his crew however? Well and truly OUTSTANDING. Great personalities (singing while they worked LOL), obviously skilled at their trade, well dressed in uniforms, etc. An absolutely perfect moving experience. Now having said all that, I want to STRESS the thing we all stress the MOST about if we are here seeking movers...the ridiculously high costs. I had no less than 11 movers answer my calls for aid here and Po's beat them HARSHLY on price! I still can't believe it was as cheap as it was for all the work they did and the traveling to my location and all. YOU WILL NOT GET A BETTER PRICE FROM ANYONE on here...in some cases, Po's was over $250 LESS than other quote on here. So please, if you are intensely stressed about your move, and you have a deadline lease-wise, USE PO'S MOVING! I am sitting here writing this with such a sense of relief that they somehow did SO MUCH in such little time! WAY TO GO PO'S A+++++ and 6 STARS if I could!

Moving with US provided a great experience moving into my new apartment. The first time i'm moved by myself—they were right on time, communicated even before they arrived, problem solvers when my apartment building's driveway didn't accommodate their truck, speedy movers, and so very helpful getting my apartment set up to unpack. Couldn't have asked for a better service. Will definitely be recommending and utilizing their expertise in the future!

We thought our apartment was going to be an issue for the movers as we lived on the 4th floor and the building had no elevator. The movers from VKH Movers arrived on time and started packing. We weren't really concerned about that part though. When it came to carrying big furniture down 4 sets of stairs, we started to panic. But the movers seemed quite unmoved. They put their efforts together and handled the job quite efficiently. There was no delay anywhere and they managed to deliver on time as well. I don’t know how they do it but our move with them went perfectly.

Gary is a very personable and communicative person. He was diligent in reaching out to understand the job, worked extremely hard, and made sure to treat all of my things with care. The only constructive criticism I would offer is that I think he should’ve brought an additional person to help (my furniture is somewhat heavy and bulky and I think he underestimated it lol). Aside from that, I was satisfied.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
