Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the man who came to take away my stuff. He showed up on time and took away my many cans of old paint and some hazardous materials. The perfect service - exactly what we discussed. Great guy.

Tim, Is the man for the job ! I thought I could never find anybody capable enough to help complete this uncommon tedious tasks. We needed someone to help us removed the old paint off metal stairwell rails from the previous owners. We tried, and did not realized how hard, and time consuming it was. And then Tim came along and saved the day by answering my uncommon project request. He was very thoroughly and showed me pictures of his previous completed projects he did. The other thumbtack offers was unrealistic saying they could get anything done in 2 hrs? This rail paint removal project takes 10-20 hrs or more! So I choose Tim. He came in early today as we agreed on. And stayed and work for about 8 hr outside. It was about to rain but he still offered to remove almost all of the old paint from the rails. And even helped cleaned up. I definitely recommend him and would use him again for another project. This man works hard so please be considerate and reasonable by offering him some water, refreshment, chair, etc anything that could him. These things are essential! :)

Stavo is great!! He is extremely responsive and actually hears what you want and then explains the best approach to get you the best outcome for your project. He was SUPER patient when I had to alter plans at the last minute. His craftsmanship is wonderful - we had him fix a wall and then prime and paint if from a dark orange to a light blue. The wall looks incredible!! He also did other projects around the house - all of which came out wonderful. Our house really looks like a home now! I would absolutely use him again in the future and would STRONGLY recommend him to anyone in need of a professional painter or a generally excellent handyman!!

I hired Antonio Originally to paint some windows, I was so impressed with his quality of work that I had hired him for 2 other jobs. What I have come to appreciate is Antonio’s ability to be a real handyman, he can do painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical. I intend to hire Antonio again and again.

Highly recommend! Jenrri and his team did new drywall on my kitchen ceiling and you can not even see where the old ceiling starts in the dining room/living room and merges with the new ceiling in the kitchen. There were a number of really tricky things to deal with including a lot of unlevel areas, different ceiling thicknesses to match up to, and Jenrri even found the perfect custom shade of white paint to match the old ceiling area which saved me from having to repaint everything. His team works quickly and they took care to limit the sanding dust from getting all over my house. I'm very happy with the end result. Thank you!

Erick and his team are exceptional. I contracted Erick initially to do some minor house repairs. However, after not being satisfied with the work of contractor hired to paint, I asked Erick to do a lot more work to include painting, installation of kitchen appliance, replace flooring, miscellaneous carpentry, and electrical work. Erick was so responsive to my need to get the work done quickly as getting ready to list house. Quality of work is good, Erick knows his trade and made suggestions and recommendations that proved to be invaluable. His team are hard workers and take pride in what they do. And, the pricing is exceptional. Definitely recommend and will use again in the future.

Getting home ready to sell and needed some touch up paint on the walls and ceilings throughout. Very professional and timely for both estimate and work performed. Good job matching existing wall paint and even ran back out the day of to get paint that didn't match on the exterior, even though the colors I gave them were pulled directly from the HOA documents. Would definitely recommend and use again.

I hired Jeffry to paint my 3 bedrooms. He arrived on time and did a great job. He finished the work in a timely manner and he also did a little bit of dry wall patching for me, prior to painting. I would hire him again for my next painting project. Thanks Jeffry, we love our new painted walls!

Nery painted two garage doors, a column which had blistered paint due to weather, an inside bedroom ceiling with water damage, recaulked and painted a window, and caulked and painted a new door and molding. He always called to see what times would be appropriate to my schedule, called my while on the way, and showed up on time. The painting was superb. Frequently painters simply scratch/sand away old paint and repaint, leaving a small impression where flaking paint had been scrapped away. Nery scraped/sanded away any peeling paint, spackled any areas where old paint was scrapped off, and then painted. The garage doors and the column (which would have had large areas where it would have been noticeable if it weren’t spackled before painting) now look brand new, as do the indoor areas he worked on. I would recommend Nery for any indoor or outdoor painting needs.

Tim and his crew are amazing. Tim was punctual for the quote and was very approachable. His crew are extremely professional, kind, and capable. They removed an old tile shower, old tile vanity, toilet, and tiled floor for us. Then they painted, put in an acrylic shower surround, put in vinyl flooring, recessed medicine cabinet, new toilet, and new vanity. Did I mention it only took them 4 days? Price was extremely fair and the work is extremely well done! Thank you guys!

Bottom-line: Top notch quality work at very reasonable price. I had LM Painting paint a 5000 SF house, install backsplash at 4 locations, and seal all grout throughout the house. Couldn’t be happier with the results. Already gotten compliments on how nice the edges look. They covered every square inch of floor before starting. There was no cleanup required, they paid attention to detail while working, and surpassed expectations. Photos speak for themselves. Punctual, professional and pleasant. Highly recommended with no reservations. This will be my go-to contractor from now on.

I hired Tak painting to paint my small dining room & bathroom. They did an excellent job and they were efficient & courtesy. They even came back to my apartment when I could not get the blinds down (which were pulled all the way for the paint job) and helped me. I would hire them again and I would recommend them to my friends & family.

I needed a flexible contractor to do a touch up paint job on the inside of my home in preparation to sell. The ranged from painting the top of a fire place mantel, to ceilings in some rooms, to painting just the walls, or just touching up some areas that had been repaired. Epaint was just what I needed. Jeff made good suggestions as we toured my home and discussed the work to be done. I had a written estimate the next day and we agreed on a start date. He showed up with his team on time and completed the work in a timely manner. There was a slight misunderstanding on which walls got painted a certain color in my loft. When I talked to Jeff he made everything right. He and his team were polite and friendly. They cover d everything before beginning and did what I would call a reasonably priced, perfectly professional job, while not being inflexible. I would recommend Epaint to everyone that needs a painting contractor. I would certainly hire then again without hesitation.

We have a rental apartment that needed re-painting before we have someone else move in. Jaime responded quickly, was able to visit us the SAME DAY as my request (!), and was able to start painting within a few days. His work is top-notch, and we are pleased with his thoroughness and expertise. He asked me whether I wanted flat or a (semi-gloss? satin?) paint, and I left the decision to him, requesting a paint that would be easy to wipe clean. Jaime's expertise made our apartment look much better for our next tenant, and we will definitely call on him for future projects. :)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
