Charlie and his team disassembled and moved an enormous and enormously heavy marble table and wrought iron base so we could have a new rug installed underneath. Then they returned to my house a few days later to reassemble and return the table to the room. They were easy to work with: lots of prompt communication, on time, pleasant, etc. Will use them again. Highly recommend.

Very professional. They arrived on time and they started the job immediately. They helped me move a very heavy table to the second floor and then installed it. When they finished, they cleaned up the debris and remove all the packaging.

Rob arrived on time and was ready to begin. I had a variety of odd jobs from hanging picture, and mirror to moving couch, putting together a new floor lamp, tightening the dining room chairs and table, including pulling out nails and filling the holes. The mirror was a challenge and Rob came up with the ideal situation and now it is hung beautifully. There are other needed jobs that need to be done and Rob will be coming back again. I have no qualms about recommending Rob. Diana

Tim came to our house on time and meticulously and professionally assembled several desks and a ping pong table that needed professional furniture assembly. He was courteous, took his time to get it done right, and was extremely pleasant the entire time. Highly recommend him for anyone with 'no assembly skills'. No ifs or buts, will reuse his services again!

The gentlemen that actually did the move were really nice. It did take a long time due to them having to wrap my couch and dinning room table. However, I felt it did take a little to long due I the fact I’d go out side to move stuff to my car and one of the gentlemen would be on their phone. It also took a long time due to them getting lost. Other than that the service was good.

Po and his crew were professional and did a great job.I didn't have much time to pack and move. Whaterever I asked they were happy to take care of. There wasafewtimes i wasn't sure of where to put things and in order to move they had to take apart and reassemble. Po just wanted a happy customer and did it with a smile. I had too many things not packed for them to stack in truck but they did a great job trying to get everything on the truck. Lastly I had a table missing bolts and they even fixed that. I highly recommend Pos moving co! They are a young, brand new company. Po impressed me with his thoughtfulness to the customer. His employees don't smoke and aren't allowed on their phones, and they handle my things with care.

THRILLED! We couldn't be happier with the job Sterling Van Lines did moving our pool table. From the first phone call with John for scheduling to the finished product, they were courteous, informative, punctual, and most importantly, professional! Our pool table plays better than it did before the move. Would definitely hire them again. We will definitely recommend them to our family and friends! GREAT JOB Sterling Van Lines!

I was beyond impressed with Tony. He helped me put together furniture (stools, couch, etc) hang blinds and put up a backsplash. Tony is very detailed orientated, does not cut corners, and is very patient. One thing I really appreciated was he assisted me in calling the customer service center of the company that sent me my coffee table with the wrong parts, and told them exactly what I needed. I will definitely be having Tony come back to help me put together my coffee table and my future furniture!

Stavo did an outstanding job of replacing my kitchen faucet, installing my new smoke detector, and fixing my garage disposal. I thought it needed to be replaced; however, Stavo found that there was a penny in it that was causing the issue. He cleaned it out, and I now have a perfectly working garage disposal. I will call him from now on for anything I need a Handyman for in the future.

The job was to refinish a cherry kitchen table and leaf. I obtained quotes including time to completion from 3 shops and selected FurnitureMD1. One shop wanted 3-5 weeks to complete the job, while the other was in the 3 month range. Steve at FurnitureMD1 was in the middle on price, but gave me a two week turnaround to have the table back in our home. Once selected, Steve was here the next day to pick up the table, and returned it two weeks later. Communication prior to pickup and delivery was great. The job is superb, with the table returned to showroom condition. If you are in Northern Virginia, don't worry about the Montgomery County location. They provide service throughout the DMV area, and have been at it for over 30 years. The experience shows, and there is not a single negative thing I can say about the experience.

Overall, Kevin has been such a blessing to us!!! Since there is only one area of improvement for Kevin, which he humbly admits, I will speak to that first and then go on and on about all the wonderful aspects of Kevin and his skills. Kevin's one weakness is timeliness. Kevin will sometimes state that he'll show up at a certain time, but not be on time or come at all. If he can't show up, he usually will call. He sometimes is juggling 2-3 jobs, and has trouble with time management. Since this is for some people a major factor in choosing a service provider, I think it's only right to communicate this. This by the way is the ONLY reason I cannot give Kevin 5 stars. Now to the good stuff! Kevin helped us tremendously when our home renovation started going wrong with our former contractor. Part of our contract with our previous contractor was to assemble and install our new kitchen. When that contractor didn't live up to our contract, we found Kevin. All I can say is now the kitchen is my favorite part of the house! It is beautiful thanks to Kevin!!!! Kevin assembled and installed approximately 15 IKEA kitchen cabinets. His skill and knowledge of carpentry definitely was evident as he helped us tackle structural issues along the way. He also found faulty repair work that our former contractor had performed and corrected it. In addition to installing our new kitchen cabinets, Kevin also helped us correct some of the leveling issues we had by reinforcing our subfloor using ¾” plywood before our hardwood was installed. He ended up having to fix some issues with the hardwood flooring installation from the previous contractor. He did some paint work for us. He helped correct bad cable work that our previous contractor had performed. He helped us fix a bathroom door that wasn’t closing properly. He installed our over-the-range microwave. All in all, Kevin’s carpentry skills have helped us create the home we wanted during this renovation. The thing that we appreciate most about Kevin is his sincere desire to do the work right. He cares about the quality of the work he does and genuinely takes pleasure in his craft. He is a man with a good heart and spirit, and because of that we were patient with him. Kevin is definitely our new go-to guy for most home repairs. We consider him not only a friend, but he’s now like family.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to restore a pool table?

Keeping your pool table in prime condition both protects your investment and makes it more fun to play. If your billiards table has been damaged by age or player misuse, experienced pool table repair pros are ready to help. The average national cost to hire a pool table specialist is $330-$400, but pricing can vary depending on how much restoration work needs to be done and the type and cost of materials you need. Depending on the type of pool table you want, the cost to buy one new can range from $1,000 to $5,000 and up, so investing in upkeep every few years makes good financial sense. Common pool table repairs include refelting the table, replacing cushions and cushion rubber that is has deteriorated or been damaged, installing new pockets or replacing damaged pockets, and fixing chips or smoothing uneven slate. You can also have wood pool tables refinished to restore them to their former luster, which may start around $600 and go up, depending on size, wood type and necessary repairs. Pool table repair pros can level an uneven table, repair broken leg mounts and address other foundational issues. Pool table repair pros can also fix coin-operated parts for commercial tables.

How much does it cost to replace pool table felt?

Owning a pool table, whether for pleasure or business, means investing in upkeep. Keeping the felt in good condition is important to ensure not only appearance but a smooth game. The national average cost to hire a pool table repair professional ranges from $330 to $400. A quality pool table is a major investment, so you want to hire a pro who is experienced and comes with glowing references. Refelting a pool table is a specialized skill calling for technical tools, competence with slate smoothing and repair, and the ability to provide a precision application of the felt that won’t hinder play.

When well cared for, pool table felt can last up to a decade; pros recommend replacing your pool table felt every three years or so, more often if you play heavily. Refelting and pool table repairs can cost more for antique and custom pool tables. Commercial pool table owners are wise to have multiple pool tables repaired at one time, as they can often get discounts for volume work.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
