"Leon has been my personal trainer for about 3 months. He was the director of personal training at my gym; I had done 2 workouts with him there. I want to be pushed and Leon does that; yet he pays attention to what my body is telling me and adjusts the specific exercise accordingly. He has a great variety of exercises in his repertoire; you truly never know what you're going to be asked to do. He has a friendly and encouraging style that calls out my best. I find him flexible in terms of scheduling. And best of all, I can see the progress that I've made over the last 3 months!"

"The things that impressed me the most about Mr. Nixon were his professional manner and his respect for my privacy. He made sure I was comfortable and covered except for the area he was working on at the time. He worked with me on what I needed and asked for feedback, creating a very custom treatment. I have a back injury, so trust was a big factor. Because of the conversation before hand about what I needed and what to expect, I was relaxed within minutes and could take full benefit of the massage. I look forward to working together on this healing journey. Thank you Reggie."

"I have fibromyalgia and lymph circulation issues. Michele's use of Reiki in addition to other care really helps alleviate the pain. Also, she helps my cat Emma who has IBS issues and helps her feel better too. Michele is careful to make sure you are comfortable and at ease during the whole process. She is also really good with animals."

"Mr. Tsakounis (Thom) is a skilled and caring therapist. We came to "A Quiet Journey Counseling " center for couples counseling. My husband was very reluctant at first, but quickly found Thom to be a supportive and understanding ally. Feeling like Thom "got " him, and us, allowed our work with Thom to progress quickly. As a mental health therapist myself, I have very high expectations for fellow counselors. Thom met or exceeded my expectations! He is well versed in a number of holistic, cognitive behavioral and Gestalt modalities, and a genuinely caring human being. While my husband and I have more work to do, Thom has supported us and given us new tools to communicate more effectively in our relationship. I reccommend Mr. Tsakounis whole-heartedly! "

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
