Introduction: I have taught drum set and snare drum technique for over 40 years. The majority of students study with me for years. Several of my students have gone on to major music schools such as Berklee College of Music and several are working with major recording acts such as Linkin Park, Adam Lambert, Fall Out Boy, Paul McCartney, Janet Jackson, The Black Eyed Peas, Slipknot and others. I love the drums as much today as when I picked up my first pair of drumsticks many years ago. It gives me great satisfaction and pleasure to give knowledge and wisdom to students that I have acquired over a very long and renowned professional career as a drummer.

Keith was an excellent drum teacher. I taught myself to play the drums at 16 and wanted help to get better now at the age of 35. Keith helped me unlearn the bad habits to help me out at the start. He is patient and was very flexible to tailor his lesson plan to my situation. My advice to you is that if you are serious about getting better and can really commit to practicing during the week, Keith is the teacher for you. He will get you to where you want to be.

Keith is a wonderful drum instructor. Our 13-year old daughter has been taking drum set lessons from him for the past two months and has progressed immensely. She loves it! After each 30 minute lessons, she swears it was only five minutes. Keith is very patient and knowledgeable instructor.

I have been studying with Keith John for about one month now. I am very happy that he took me on as a pupil. I am 56 years old and I didn’t want someone significantly younger than myself as an instructor. I feel that trust is imperative to effective instruction and I definitely trust Keith. His expert knowledge and vast experience is hugely beneficial to anyone who is willing to listen to his instruction and follow his sage advice. He is very easy to talk with and it’s obvious that he has been instructing students for a long time. I really like the privacy of his drum studio also. I would without hesitation recommend him to anyone who is serious about learning how to play drums,regardless of age.

From day one Keith has made a positive impression on how to play drums. He is able to explain how to play a complicated instrument in a way that is easy to understand and when there is a sign of trouble in progress, he able to see and understand the issues and prescribe the right exercise to ensure that progress continues. In addition not only is he a great teacher, his demeanor and personality is great to get along with and makes the lessons enjoyable.

It was great to meet a professional like Keith. In my first and only lesson with him, he recognized that I had a bad habit of not gripping the stick or hitting the snare properly with my left hand. He showed me a technique and encouraged me to practice correctly, watching myself in a mirror. Unfortunately his studio is not on a metro line and is not an timely commute for me. He is an excellent teacher.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Unless a student is advanced, I recommend that they sign up for a half-hour lesson. My rate is $50/half hour. I don’t believe in sitting and watching a student struggle with new material while the clock is running. I give plenty of material during that half-hour for students to practice for an entire week until their next lesson.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In addition to asking what goals the potential student has, I ask questions to find out a student's experience in the past, what study materials they have used up to now, if any, I ask them to bring those items to the first lesson. During that first lesson, I will observe the student play, analyze their skills and determine exactly where to place them and determine their needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a 3 time Grammy Award Winner. One of my bands is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I have worked with many famous bands and musicians. I have travelled the world playing drums and entertaining many in venues of all sizes.
