Christian did a great job educating me about all the potential bugs/pests that were getting into my home. I called for wasp control and realized I had a carpenter ant problem and a rat problem. They fixed all of them within 24 hours.

I needed GreenShield to help with a significant infestation of ants in my kitchen. The technicians that came to my house were timely, courteous, and quick. The solution was effective, but I was really glad that they included a free follow-up for first time services. The ants returned about 10 days later, but my follow-up was soon after that. They seem to be gone completely now. The technician explained that the method they use kills the entire colony over a 2-3 day period. I'm very satisfied and I highly recommend their services.

We have been using other bug control company and switched because we felt Frontline offered more for our money. Treatment provider Darren spent a lot of time talking to my husband about service provided. We were impressed that Darren used a mop in addition to spray along top part of home to apply solution. He also sprayed on lawn around the house. We are both pleased with treatment and service Darren provided.

I am very pleased with the services provided by Dana Bradford & Son's Pest Services. Dana was able to provide me with a quote within minutes of my inquiry and also showed up to my house that same day for an inspection. The pricing is very affordable and I signed up for the services that same day. As of today I have no complaints and would highly recommend the services of this company. Although, my house is still being treated; I feel confident that the issue will be resolved.

They gave us an excellent quote of $65 for ant extermination. When I spoke with them, they gave me a higher quote (can't remember what it was but it was more than $65). I asked them about the original quote and they told me that they set up an automated message that quotes people at $65. Ultimately, they said they would honor the $65 for being first time clients. When they arrived at the house, I told them where our ant problems were. He told me that it would cost $135. Again, I brought up the original quote and said we reached out to them bc of this good deal. They finally agreed to the $65. Well...it was a complete waste of money. They were in and out in less than 5 minutes. They put these gel bait traps down that we could have just done for ourselves and for much less. They didn't even spray. Seriously, they put 4 ant traps down, didn't even do the whole house, 2 in the kitchen and 2 outside - for $65. Completely ridiculous and uncalled for to charge that much for something we could have done ourselves. Ultimately I feel like we really got scammed and I'm incredibly disappointed in this company. My husband is LIVID. If the owner reads this, I feel like we are owed a complete refund or at least a discount of some kind. This work and service was completely below par.

For 2 nights my wife and I could not sleep because of critters running around in our ceiling. Commonwealth Wildlife showed up in a timely manner and discovered a couple of squirrels had decided to make our attic their summer home. In no time Commonwealth Wildlife had removed the squirrels, found the point of entry, and sealed it to avoid any future unwanted guests. They were very knowledgeable and professional. Now I am sleeping like a baby. Highly Recommend.

We had a termite infestation and Green Pest was very attentive and responsive to our needs and concerns. They were very flexible working around our busy work schedules, to the extent that they sent a technician over on Sunday to assess the problem. They always showed up on time, were very professional and explained in detail the treatment, how termites work, and answered all our questions and addressed all our concerns. They were very responsive, and continuously demonstrated that they cared about our problem. We were so pleased with the Termite treatment that we also signed up for the quarterly treatments. All of their technicians I’ve had the pleasure to work with take great pride of what they do, and are focused on client satisfaction. Special thanks to Kory, Oscar, Kevin, Alex, and DJ for their honesty, hard work, exceeding expectation and being cognizant to our concerns. A very Satisfied Customer.

I posted on Thumbtack that I needed help removing a swarm of bees. Harry responded to my posting and said he could be there to do the work the next morning. He was the second person to respond and offered a slightly lower price. I accepted his offer. He arrived timely in the morning of the following day. He assessed the situation, told me what type of bees we had and what needed to be done to eliminate the problem. That, of course, was spraying the area. Harry put on his "uniform" of bee protective clothing. He sprayed all around the area, including spraying bees that were flying. He waited between sprays to see the activity level. After a while it seemed the activity stopped. So, it seemed the treatment was successful. Harry also sprayed around the foundation of my home because he saw evidence of spiders, etc. Harry is a polite person, knowledgeable on the subject. He also drove from Washington D.C. to my home which was approximately an hour or more drive, especially in morning traffic. I would recommend Pannell's Pest Service. Give Harry the opportunity to end your pest problem.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

      • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
        • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
      • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
        • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
      • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
        • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

      • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
        • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
      • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to get a pest inspection?

In general there is no cost for a pest inspection. Exterminators typically provide a free property or building inspection and then provide you with a written estimate outlining the necessary treatment and cost. The home visit allows the exterminator to assess the problem and let you know what your pest control cost will be if you contract with their services. You may need a termite inspection for real estate purposes. This will be a verified inspection showing that the house in question is termite-free (often done before a sale). The inspection may cost a flat rate, such as $125-$150, depending on house size.

It’s hard to predict pest control costs sight unseen due to the variety of factors that go into pest treatment. For example, a bedbug problem for one customer may be confined to one room and be easy to access and treat in one visit if the room is clear of clutter and the bedbugs have been caught early. In another home, a bedbug problem may also be confined to one room, but there’s a great deal of clutter, providing more hiding places for the bugs and requiring more spray and labor for the exterminator, as well as many pieces of large furniture in the room that need to sprayed. Depending on the maturity of the infestation, a bedbug problem may require multiple visits to entirely eliminate. This is why many companies provide a free inspection to determine pest control costs and provide you the most accurate quote possible.
