Miguel and his crew did an outstanding job on my roof. Reasonable quote, full explanation of options and comprehensive review of the GAF roofing system. When the crew left my house, the only indicator they had been there was my new roof and the M&A sign in my front yard. Very pleased with the work of this company. I'd hire them again for sure!

We did a complete re-roof. This involved taking all old material off of the roof and installing the new materials. Ralph was a constant professonal from the time he came to speak to me about the project until the project was completed. He really took the time to ask and listen to any concerns I had. He did exactly what I asked of him. Ralph personally supervised the project from start to finish on the day of install. His crew was also extremely professional and actually took pictures of the problems they found on the roof, so I could see exactly what was wrong.

Ricky was great to work with, both in the planning and the execution of the work...always quick to respond to any question I presented. We had new gutters with gutter guards installed, as well as metal wrapping of our fascia and soffits. His price was extremely fair and the quality of work was outstanding. There was no pressure and he was easy to work with when debating our various options. I would highly recommend him and will hire him again if the need arises.

After a water event, Lee assisted with the repairs by completing the final details such as: Sheetrock finishing, painting, baseboard installation, and commercial carpet square replacement. He was courteous, on-time, and able to work with our requirement that the project be completed over 1 weekend.

Hired Greg to do some roof repair. He arrived when he said he would which is great, his price was very fair and he was able to knock out the job immediately which was a bonus before it started raining. He pointed out why I had a problem with shingles blowing off in storms on a particular section of roof. But he did not try to sell me an entire roof which I appreciate because two roofing companies tried to push that on me. Overall no problems, prompt, fast and got it done. Will be keeping him on my list of go-to folks for Home repair work.

I would like to share my experience with Omar Emilsson, from Patriot Roofing. If i could rate it higher than 5, I would. I also would like to share that prior to choosing Patriot Roofing, I had approximately 10 other companies come to my house. I have learned from experience, never choose the 1st company, w/ out doing your homework. I am completely satified with my roof. Infact, I can honestly say I have the best looking roof on my street. You are welcome to drive by and see it. My address is 5313 Silvey Dr., Norfolk Va. 23502. I was impressed from the moment Omar Emilsson came to my house. Omar was honest and fair. His crew did a outstanding job! I would highley recommend Omars company to anyone. Thanks again Omar and crew!

I contacted and interviewed 5 different roofing contractors to get estimates on replacing my 23 yr old roof, install trim wrap and soffets, and to remove and replace my gutters. After going over all the bids, I decided to go with Don Rafa. The owner, Rafael, listened to my concerns and answered all of my questions on multiple occasions. He was down to earth, and his prices were fair and within the price point for the amount of work I was looking to do. He was very accommodating and gave me recommendations on my particular roofing needs. After signing the contract, Don Rafa was accommodating to my schedule and started the roofing project on a date we agreed upon. The workers were friendly, professional and helpful, answering any additional questions that I had. They did a fantastic job in tearing off the old roof, replacing bad wood and installing GAF Timberline HD shingles, with GAF's Cobra underlayment and ridge vent system. They installed the roof per my contract and within two days. The roofers placed tarp down to protect my yard and cleaned up after they were done, they also used a magnet roller to pick up any stray nails. I am very pleased with the quality of the work!!! After the new roof was replaced, Don Rafa's roofers started the trim work making sure to remove and replace any bad wood. I have a fairly large home with a wrap around porch, so it took a couple of days to finish the trim. The new trim looks great and was professionally installed using quality caulked (OSI Quad) as required. Lastly, Rafael had a great gutter sub-contractor who was able to replace all of my gutters within a day. The gutters were seamless and manufactured at my home using a seamless gutter machine. They even placed an additional downspout (at my request) in an area that I previously had some problems with the amount of water coming off the roof. The new gutters are look great and were installed professionally. I highly recommend Don Rafa roofing for you roofing needs. Rafael was honest, intelligent and knowledgeable concerning roofing materials, shingle manufacturers and warranties, trim and gutter work. I am pleased to say Don Rafa was able to do all of this work within budget and on schedule. Thanks Rafael and Team!!! Dan McAdoo

Keith with kbs roofing e-mailed me very quickly after I posted on thumbtack looking for a roofer. He was very polite and curtious and set up an appointment to come out and look at what I needed.I have an old metal roof horse barn that was beginning to leak and needed repairs keith looked at what i had and gave me options and prices on the spot that where very reasonable. I decided to give him the work and am very glad i did. Keith went above and beyond what I was looking for,I was looking for someone to just roll some roof sealer on my metal roof. Keith spent extra time making sure to replace any missing screws and tighten all the loose ones. He also put a epoxy over every single screw head on the entire roof just to make sure I had no leaks. He also put epoxy on all the seams and this is a 1500 sq ft roof so there were hundreds of screws he covered by hand. He then rolled the roof and it came out beautiful. I am 100% pleased with not only the work performed by Keith but also his desire to do the job right!! Kbs roofing gets an A+ in my book and i will certainly be calling them for any future roofing jobs.

Installing a whole house antenna ..he added a couple of new outlets for my electrical needs..he installed a tv on the wall and placed the wires in the wall which included some construction and drywall repair and painting. At the same time he responded to a couple of emergency situation that arose at my house while he was working for me. A roof leak and a plumbing clog and overflow... Jim repaired my porch roof, which was damaged by a tornado. Because my house was built in the 1930s, it was very difficult to find the metal roofing that was originally used. Jim made at least a dozen calls, to locate the material, and helped us negotiate a fair settlement from the insurance company. I am happy to recommend Jim and his team!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
