Party Favor Photo was so much fun to have at our wedding reception! They were punctual and set everything up with no issues at all. They were completely professional and very easy to communicate with in the days leading up to our wedding, and they had all of our digital photos available for viewing the day after the event, which was faster than I expected! Our guests loved having both the photobooth prints and the digital versions available for viewing, and the pictures turned out really well. One thing I appreciated beyond words is that the photobooth attendant flagged my husband and I down at the end of the night, right after our send-off, and told us that we should do a quick shoot in the photobooth since we hadn't had a chance to do so over the course of the very busy and hectic night. That was so sweet and thoughtful, and we both appreciated her thinking of that for us. I had no complaints and wouldn't hesitate to use them again, or recommend them!

I have worked with dozens of web designers and graphic artists from around the world, people I hired mainly from guru.com. If you took the measure of talent present in all these people, then put it all together in one person, you would have the equivalent of the talent present in Barbie's little finger. You can't compare the skill in this woman with anyone else. She is in a class by herself. First of all, I live in California and she lives in Maryland. I talked to her once on the phone, but mainly just through my thoughts that came out of my passion to heal the sick as a doctor. I told her I wanted a brochure that would reflect the look of an apothecary from the 1800's with the beautiful graphics possible from the jet age digital world. I swear the lady read my mind. She started putting together ideas so fast, and so good that I thought I was dealing with a master of art, like the best of the best, whose talent was in a league all her own. She is better than excellent. Like meeting all the contestants in a Miss Universe contest, but there is one more beautiful than them all who falls in love with you. You score big time. She is so fast that I was up at 3 AM for four days in a row just trying to keep up with her. The project just kept getting better and better each day. I looked at her work in amazement. Like this was my soul mate of graphic art who delivered a product beyond what I could ever ask or think. There is no one like her. She deserves all the money in my bank account because the money I am going to make, and the people I am going to impress with the brochure she created for me, is going to make me rich. Well, my God will make me rich, but he sends these angels to do his will that make you better and happier just because her life touched my life in an extraordinary way. You have the princess of graphic art here in the person of this woman who will blow your mind with what she can do in Illustrator and Photoshop. I am already looking forward to the next project. I have been trying to put together the website of websites for three years. I have files upon files from all these losers from around the world, but watch Barbie take my ideas and create another masterpiece. That's what she will give you...a masterpiece that will help to put you over in your business...the right image, the right look, exactly what you need. I wouldn't waste my time writing this lengthy evaluation unless I was not completely, 100% satisfied with her work. I am the biggest fan of Barbie Harris on the earth. I found what I was looking for. Thank you Lord for my December Christmas present.

We needed wedding invitations a bit outside the formal style - a blend my daughter called 'whimsical architectural'. We were lucky to find Laela! She rose to the top of our list because she worked with us, sending samples of how she could vary her style to suit our needs. She is a graphic designer so we trusted her instincts on finding the right ink color - and she nailed it. Laela responded quickly to emails, delivered on time, and her pricing fell midway between the other 2 candidates we had considered, I would definitely work with Laela again!

Reggie was fantastic to work with for this project, which he committed to on a very tight timeline. His quick communication, professionalism, and flexibility - both in terms of his own creative design and our logistical needs - were exactly what we were looking for. I highly recommend Reggie for any of your graphic design needs - especially if local in the DC area! (He found a local printer and delivered the final materials himself). Thanks again, Reggie!

As the owner of a small graphic design studio, I have enjoyed collaborating with JEB Design on multiple projects. Joe is a gifted, reliable, and trusted business partner. He not only helps turn my client’s ideas into reality, but also consistently exceeds our expectations. Joe is very easy to work with and is the first person I will reach out to when I need to add a professional illustrator to my team.

Jessica Painter Design

Jess has performed two tasks: preparation of map-like graphics and the design of a trademark. The graphics were incorporated in a briefing that describes a project for the development of a new urban neighborhood that would include the construction of new homes, the rehabilitation of others, and the relocation of an extant business into the new community. The graphics showed an overview of the community within the wider urban area, the orientation of the community within the local infrastructure, and a conceptual view of the community upon completion of the project. The trademark developed for this project is a multicolored icon synthesizing the community name with its environmentally-friendly intent. Most impressive, in addition to her creativity and skill, is Jess’ willingness to listen to sometimes nebulous requirements and iterate toward potential solutions before attempting a more formal solution that may be inappropriate and need subsequent revision.

I contacted Aaron and within no time he responded, and understood my web development need, providing a very reasonable quote. Working with Aaron the past 6 weeks has been as easy as the first phone discussion. Always responsive, provides high quality work and knows how/when to trouble-shoot. I plan to use Aaron's expertise again on a second web development project and highly recommend his Altscher Consulting for digital needs!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What makes a good logo design?

A good logo is an easily identifiable, memorable image that represents your brand. A good logo design aligns with your business model and expresses your company’s core values. A good logo design is simple, appealing, and easy for customers and viewers to quickly process. Some of the key components of a great logo are type, color palette and design. The scale, font and arrangement of the text you select will all make a difference in the feel and representation of your brand. A graphic designer will help you home in on the colors that best represent your identity and help you keep the color palette simple. The design of your logo includes the shapes you select and the way the color and type are arranged together. Investing in the services of a professional to create your logo design is likely a smart investment for any size business. Nationally, the average price range for a logo designer ranges from $170 to $250.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

        • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
        • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
        • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
