Winstead communicated with me from the time I booked him to the time he did my makeup. He is very professional and courteous. He arrived early with all his tools and did an excellent job with my face (bridal makeup), and also did makeup for my mom-in-law and sis-in-law. I looked gorgeous in all my wedding photos and my skin looked radiant in the sunshine (it was an outdoor wedding). I asked for lightweight and natural-looking makeup and that's what I got. I'd definitely hire him again! You won't go wrong if you hire Winstead for your makeup needs!

I had the pleasure of meeting Jayde this Sunday for my bridal makeup trial! She was so much fun, engaging and very educative on the tools and types of products she uses. The most makeup I ever wear is shadow and mascara; but once she finished with me, I felt like a super model. :-) The makeup stayed on flawlessly all day and removal was very easy. I can't wait for to be glammed up again on my wedding day!!

Being a makeup lover myself, I knew that when choosing a makeup artist for my wedding I couldn't choose just anyone. All I can say is that Roma is truly amazing!! At my trial, she took the time to ask questions and find out exactly what I was looking for. As soon as she was done, I knew I wanted her to do my makeup for my wedding. When the wedding day came, she traveled to my hotel suite and did the makeup for myself as well as 5 others. She showed up early, stayed 100% on schedule, and was a true professional from start to finish. She is enthusiastic, funny, and so easy to talk to. My makeup came out AWESOME and I received so many compliments. I can't thank Roma enough for making me feel beautiful on such an important day. I would highly recommend her and plan on using her myself for future events!

Bhavna was amazing. She did my mehndi for my wedding on 3/21 and I couldn't have been happier with the results. While it may seem like quite a time and cost commitment it is totally worth it for the following reasons: 1. You are forced to sit still and remain calm for a few hours (7 in my case a few days before your wedding). I was incredibly nervous about that idea in the days leading up to it because I knew I still had so much to do, but I'm so glad I did. Bhavna provided great company while working hard on me and it was nice to just sit and not run around like I had been for the weeks and months prior. Also, it really made it feel like I was about to get married, it got me in the right mindset. 2. I had so much fun showing off her work at my wedding and getting people to look for my husbands name. 3. After all that build up of a wedding, it's weird when it's all over. At least if you have your bridal henna done it still feels like a gradual transition into normal life since it takes some time to fully fade. Not to mention, people will notice and will congratulate you on your wedding! Added bonus: If you spend some time in the sun while the henna is still dark you end up with tan lines. It's been nearly a month since my wedding and I can still see the design from my tan which I think is pretty fun! Those are the reasons you should get it done, but the reason you should go with Bhavna is because of the amount of effort and skill she brings to the table. From the consultation I was impressed with how much detail and thought goes into it beforehand and how much she does to make it personal. The design fit my style/personality so well and that's only because she pulled details out of me. I did not come into the appointment with any ideas of what I wanted, she was able to come up with that with her pointed questions and guidance. In summary, if you plan on getting bridal mehndi done (or really any type of mehndi done), go with Bhavna, you won't regret it.

Erika was incredible! I hired her off of thumbtack. She and the makeup artist she worked with were amazing. They traveled to the venue and did hair and makeup for me and my bridal party. They were both very professional and did great work, but also contributed to the laid back atmosphere that is important on the morning of the wedding day. They were very accommodating of the requests and preferences of the various members of the bridal party. Everyone ended up looking great. It was very windy on my wedding day, and my hair stayed in place through the end of the night! I would highly recommend Erika.

Thao was hired to do my bridal hair and makeup. There were never enough words for me to express my gratitude and appreciation to Thao. She has done an exceptional service for my special day. She was absolutely a professional and amazing stylist. She was very patience, creative, and sensational. She has done a wonderful job to help me becoming one of the most beautiful brides. I was very glad to find her from Facebook. She is not only a skillful stylist but she is also very well knowledgeable on cosmetics and skincare. Her informative advices saved me a lot of headaches during my wedding preparation. Check out my photos. I hope sharing my experience with Thao can help you find your right stylist. Good luck!

Gul and her partner were both very responsible and showed up on time for my wedding.. I knew that I could count on them to be there for my special day. From the minute I met Gul, she continued to respond to my messages very quickly and gave very helpful advice and answered any questions that I had. They are both very good makeup artists and only use the best quality makeup and products.. You can count on them to make you look flawless on your wedding day, and they will put in as much time as you need them to get the job done. If you want a makeup artist who will do any makeup look you like, use high end products, and give you only the best advice possible then you can count on these two ladies 100%. They will not let you down. I think more people should know about NGK studio because these two girls truly are experts in the work that they do and they are very hardworking they will not let you down. I promise. I got so many compliments on how flawless I looked the day of my wedding, and how amazing my hair looked that day. People couldn't stop raving over the fact that I just looked like I walked out of a movie.. I was very tired that day too(functioning on only one hour of sleep and they were somehow able to transform me into a celebrity) You will look amazing too on your wedding day four sure=) =) I am usually very picky with who I decide to do my makeup, but there was just something about this girl that I could tell she would do a fantastic job and I was right. Spread the word, these girls are experts!!! Sincerely, Dana

I was a Matron of Honor in a wedding recently and Chei’La was the makeup artist for the bridal party as well as the bride. She really did a beautiful job for us. This was my first time getting false lashes and Chei’La really made my eyes look good and the bride was really stunning! I highly recommend her for your event. She is professional, punctual and definitely knows how to make you look and feel beautiful.

Trisha was wonderful to work with! She was running a free trial for hair and makeup and I was so happy with the trial run that we hired her for the wedding day. She did my makeup for engagement photos and also the hair and makeup for the wedding (along with my mom and 3 bridesmaids). I love that she offers traveling services, it was so nice to wake up at the wedding venue and have the beautifying team come to us. :) I was very happy with my bridal look (loved the airbrush makeup) and everyone looked amazing. A huge thanks to Trisha for making us look beautiful on the big day!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

    • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
    • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
    • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
    • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
    • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
    • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
    • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

    • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
    • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
    • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
    • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
    • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.
