"I have fibromyalgia and lymph circulation issues. Michele's use of Reiki in addition to other care really helps alleviate the pain. Also, she helps my cat Emma who has IBS issues and helps her feel better too. Michele is careful to make sure you are comfortable and at ease during the whole process. She is also really good with animals."

"Shar did an amazing job. The reviews were all spot on. You never feel like you are on a timer. He said from the start that this is more about addressing my problem areas and would take as much time as needed to ensure I left having my needs met. I left the massage refreshed with some stubborn spots feeling much better afterwards. He also gave me some suggestions on how I can continue to work on those areas on my own. I already have another appointment lined up!"

"I can't begin to explain the wonderful experience I had with Michelle. Today I had the pleasure of receiving a massage from Michelle, from the moment you walk into the quaint and lovely shop you relax and feel blissful. Michelle is so warm and inviting and truly is interested in making your experience memorable. My massage was heavenly and the best I have ever had, the bed is warm, the blanket cozy, the essential oils she used relaxed me immediately. Her technique is several steps above what I have had from others. I have plantar fasiites and Michelle uses a special took to break down (gently) the muscle to allow blood flow to the area. The tool was warm to the touch and just added to the experience. Michelle is NOW my go to person! Go to her you will love it!"

"Had a great massage with Janthima. She has a naturally pleasant disposition and is very professional. She worked on an area around my shoulder and really made it feel better. This may sound like a contradiction, but she used a rather gentle touch that was somehow super effective at getting out the knots. Great massage!"

"I was expecting to get a traditional massage, but boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. Instead of just working on my back, Lucy took her time understanding my issues and did some exercises like stretching, bending and breathing. The massage itself was strong and thorough. One of the best I ever got. I even got some advice on what type of exercises I can do at home in order to improve my condition. I can highly recommend MpowerD!"

"Marc has been helping me stand straight and move loosely for several years. His work makes such a difference that my husband has learned to answer any complaints I have about stiffness with, "How long 'til your next massage?" Highly recommended."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
