John did most of our kitchen remodeling work for us. This was the first time we have done a project like this so we were sort of feeling our way. I would hire John again, though his helper, Jamie, was not as good. I think the qulity of work was generally good, but I wasn't there to watch most of it. Some smaller details looked like they could have been handled better, such as flatness/evenness of the floor, placement of electrical boxes, some of the edges where the new floor met the old floor or HVAC vents. John was always happy to change something for us, but of course it would cost more to make the change. When they initially installed the cabinets one section was about 3/4 of an inch misalligned with the existing wall. Apparently they didn't see anything wrong with that and went ahead and installed the cabinets. When I saw the result I thought we needed to fix it, which John did, but he charged us another $225 to do it. There are probably always unforeseen circumstances that arrise during construction, especially in remodeling, and sometimes John would figure out a good solution (one that we liked), but other times it would be not such a good solution and we might have wanted it done differently. So more communication at those times would have been nice. Overall we are pleased with the results. The new kitchen looks pretty good, though we're still only about 95% completed. We are still waiting for a few ordered items to arrive and John will be back to finish things off. John was good at telling us when he would be there and when he wouldn't. The project has gone on a little longer than we had hoped, about 8 weeks, but things kept on schedule pretty well and there were a few unexpected extras like replacing part of the ceiling and removing multiple old floors. It was pretty easy to work with John and he seems trustworthy. I think we are a bit overbudget, but we did add in some extra painting to the job. Knowing what I now know, I think the project would go more smoothly if we had to do it again. I think John also learned some things during this project. For example, I don't hink he had installed hardwood flooring before. I bet he would also be better at that if he had to do it again. John gets things done, but sometimes he should think ahead a few more steps and try to figure out if he's doing things the best way.
I originally hired Kevin Williams in June 2011 to remove an old shed and and all of the building materials and debris my husband left behind when he moved out. Not only were his rates reasonable but he worked so fast and did a great job that I hired him to do all of the things I wanted done to transform my house into my home. He painted a couple of rooms, put up porch rails, a privacy fence, crown molding, replaced locks, replaced the front door and screen, put up porch light and flood light, replaced light fixtures, moved thermostat, replaced my hot water heater, cleaned gutters, dug up my broken cement walkway, landscaping, and on and on. Next he will be laying tiles on my kitchen floor and putting up a french door to my living room. Kevin took ownership of the project and with his creative input and excellent workmanship, my house is now my home. I consider Kevin to be Central Virginia's undiscovered gem.
Installed a new kitchen sink.
We hired Mr. Bates to repair a broken water line to our refrigerator that had caused damage to our flooring, wall and molding behind the refrigerator, cabinet beside, and others. My request included the repair of the fridge, repair to all damaged areas, and painting the entire kitchen along with ceilings and trim. Mr. Bates was fast to respond to my request. He was prompt in scheduling a time to come out to the house to provide us with a quick and comprehensive quote. We asked for a specific work timeline and he adhered to it. He stayed within the quote given and completed all the work in a week. I would recommend Mr. Bates for your water repairs or home repairs.
Sean came up with a great design to update our old kitchen. The design made the kitchen much more functional. The work he did was high quality, timely, well priced, and the final result was beautiful!
highly recommended, they provided the granite for my kitchen countertops as well as the worksmanship, very well trained crew, always under control of every single situation that arised form my remodel.
James and Kendra were very professional providing quality work at a great value. He and his son installed crown molding throughout my townhouse, re-framed my fireplace, repaired a crack on my plaster wall, and installed a curved archway with gorgeous columns to highlight the entrance to my kitchen and living room entryway. James has a 100% customer satisfaction policy, so when the column size on the half wall didn't allow for a base, he was willing to fix it to my satisfaction without additional labor costs. Unfortunately, he had started another large project so it was difficult to schedule a time when he could come back to finish the work. However, James was true to his word and eventually finished the column beautifully. The work quality was well worth the wait. I highly recommend Wood-Craftmanship.
Mike helped me transform an industrial bump-out that had been a garage into office space for three people. Demo, design, hardwood floors, sheetrock, electrical. He did everything and did it all well. I was very pleased with his work and his professionalism. I'd recommend him without reservation. C.Brown, Raleigh, NC

My wife and I recently moved to Charlottesville and were given Mike Cantwells name (Cloud Cabin Arts) as a recommendation to provide crafted kitchen cabinets and bookcases for our newly purchased home. It was an excellent choice. The work performed was absolutely first rate, very creative, properly priced, and carried out in an expeditious fashion by a man who clearly loves his work and takes great pride in his craft. I hire Mr. Brewer for bathroom remodel. He did an excellent job. I love my tile flooring and wall. He is very affordable and did a great job for the price. I would highly recommend the Brewer Service Company and would use this company again for future remodels.
Did a great job fixing my collapsing ceiling. Everyone was very polite and helpful. Will definitely consider/hire them again for future projects.

Adam Hale did a kitchen remodel for us. Work included removing cabinets, appliances and laminate flooring from the old kitchen and installing new cabinets (supplied by Woodmark Cabinets via Home Depot), appliances and new tile flooring and backsplash. His work was very good and he took great care to minimize dust and debris in the rest of the house. (My wife was VERY impressed and pleased with that!) He communicated well about the schedule and made it easy for us to plan accordingly. He is obviously very experienced and when confronted with the inevitable curve balls that come up on any project, he knew exactly what to do. We discovered our floor was sagging by almost 2” in one corner, and he handled it efficiently without any impact to the overall construction schedule. I can recommend his work without reservation. As a matter of fact, he is on the short list of contractors when we get ready to remodel our master bath!
