Mr. Burstein was an excellent teacher who, when I was his student, focused mostly on soloing and music theory, but was still very well rounded. He would pick up almost any sheet of music and play it instantly, making him able to teach any type of music very well. Although I wouldn't say he was completely prepared for some of the lessons, I was always able to learn from his vast experience in music.

Rebecca is a wonderful, experienced, and passionate teacher!! My 7-year old son has been taking lessons with her for the past two years and it’s been amazing! She has great patience and as a teacher myself I recognize how important of a quality this is, especially working with younger students (although there are older students working with her as well). She is able to feel the strengths and needs of students and adjust as their needs change. I also like that she puts together two recitals a year for the delight of parents and grandparents and as an opportunity for students to meet other students and experience the thrill of performing in front of an (always cheerful) crowd. Kids do very well in these friendly, non-competitive performances as they include a theme (there is usually a Halloween recital and then a themed spring recital). I think this takes some of the pressure away from performing in public while channeling some energy into “oh, it’s fun time, we are dressing up!” mood. Rebecca also has games with little prizes every lesson and there are occasional group lessons so that students get to meet each other and enjoy a music lesson together. There are also some challenges that require a few weeks of going through several tasks to accomplish a goal and there is a drawing for a winner of a nice prize at the end if the child completed all the challenges. Her studio is very friendly, in a nice, quiet part of Roanoke, and I also appreciate that she offers a flexible schedule for summer lessons taking into consideration everyone’s busy summer travel plans. It has been very rewarding watching my son grow his musical skills, knowledge, and passion while working with Rebecca. I would highly recommend Rebecca for music lessons here in the Roanoke Valley!

I thoroughly look forward to my weekly piano lessons! Laura is a fantastic teacher who explains the material quite clearly. As an adult beginner, I appreciate the material which is easy, but geared towards an older learner. Laura was very receptive to hearing my goals as a student, and plans the lessons accordingly. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for music lessons for their child or even for themselves!

Great teacher! A student studying music education at Geneva who is currently training in the classroom. This allows for him to bring techniques from the classroom to a personal setting. I set out to learn how to read music and we've been flying through that, music theory, classical guitar and more. Clearly not about the money but for the love of the tunes. Highly recommended!

VMA has provided my children Private guitar lessons, drum lessons and Musikgarten. Their rates are less than other music stores and teachers in the area that I've found. The teachers really care about the students and go above to help their students. The concerts and recitals they put on are great too.

Great Teacher. Very patient with me. I am an adult who is trying to learn the piano at 59, and CJ has helped me so much in the past couple of weeks since we started lesson. She has so many good music books in a variety of music styles so I can always find something that I like to learn how to play.

    About

I have over 35 years' teaching experience and a background in many styles of music including jazz, blues, rock, country, classical and music theory. My teaching style is tapered to the individual student. It's never too late to pick up a guitar and start learning. The most traditional and effective way to learn any musical instrument is through private lessons. My private lessons give students the chance to experience one-on-one guitar instruction. I taper my lessons to fit your learning style and to help you meet your musical goals. I can start you from the very beginning or build on what you have already learned. You can find me in the Waynesboro, VA white pages.
